Endgame System#
Clearing the main story is only the start; the real endgame gate is three things landing at once: maxing Hunter Rank at HR100, making 9-star Tempered hunts a routine item, and finishing your build with Appraised Talismans. This page lays out each endgame system’s gates, tiers, and rewards per official update announcements, keeping only claims with an official source.
Endgame Overview#
| Track | Content | Graduation mark |
|---|---|---|
| Rank track | Raise Hunter Rank, unlock higher-gate bonus quests | HR100 cap, the “Established Hunter” achievement earned |
| Gear track | Artian forging and reinforcement, Armor Transcending, Appraised Talisman builds | Weapon and armor skills completed via Appraised Talismans; graduation build done |
| Challenge track | Take down the five Arch-tempered monsters one by one | Full Gamma armor collection, closing out with Arkveld |
| Collection track | Crowns and achievements | All 52 crowns and 50 achievements unlocked |
Hunter Rank Gates#
The first title update (2025-04-04) added Mizutsune and brought Zoh Shia back as a High Rank variant that can be challenged repeatedly; the related bonus quests require HR21 or above, with the prerequisite being progress into the main quest “A World Turned Upside Down” and completion of the side quest “Forest Doshaguma”. The Grand Hub along with Arena and Challenge quests also opened with this update.
| Gate | Unlocks | Version |
|---|---|---|
| HR21 | Mizutsune bonus quests and the Zoh Shia High Rank challenge | First title update (2025-04-04) |
| HR31 | Lagiacrus and Seregios extra quests; requires clearing the main quest “A World Turned Upside Down” first | Second title update (2025-06-30) |
| HR41 | High Rank versions of Lagiacrus and Seregios | Second title update (2025-06-30) |
| HR41 | Nerscylla clone and Omega Planetes extra quests | Third title update (2025-09-29) |
| HR100 | Hunter Rank cap; Omega Planetes’ 9-star permanent quest requires HR100 and its extra quest cleared first | Third title update onward (2025-09-29) |
HR100 is the rank endpoint in the official achievement conditions — reaching Hunter Rank HR100 is itself an achievement condition. Rank accumulates naturally through quests and hunts; the most efficient endgame sources are Tempered hunts and Event Quests.
Strengthened Monster Tiers: Tempered, 8-Star, and 9-Star#
| Tier | Debut | Traits and rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Tempered | Since launch | Carry huge old scars that can be opened as Wounds; hunts reward Hunter’s Symbols and Artian materials |
| 8-star Tempered | Ver. 1.011 (2025-05) | A higher difficulty tier that arrived with the Street Fighter 6 collab |
| 9-star Tempered | Ver. 1.021 (2025-08) | All prior 8-star Tempered monsters gained 9-star variants with higher health, damage, and aggression across the board; 9-star quests are tied to the Appraised Talisman system |
9-star is the current difficulty ceiling of the base game. When Ver. 1.021 launched, every prior 8-star Tempered monster gained a 9-star variant, and every major update since kept expanding the roster: the third title update brought Gore Magala and more into the 9-star rotation, and the fourth added Doshaguma and Rathalos. Omega Planetes’ 9-star permanent quest pushes the rank gate all the way to HR100 — the meeting point of the rank and difficulty tracks.
Frenzied Monsters#
Beyond the Tempered line there is a second strengthened line: Frenzied monsters, from the Frenzy virus system of Monster Hunter 4.
| Trait | Description |
|---|---|
| Origin | Individuals infected by the Frenzy virus spread by Gore Magala |
| Strength | Faster moves and stronger attacks, but lower health |
| Infection | Can transmit the Frenzy virus to hunters during battle |
| Range | Iceshard Cliffs only |
The approach to Frenzied monsters differs from Tempered ones: they are frailer but more ferocious, the error margin is shorter, and melee weapons need extra care with positioning and healing rhythm.
Arch-tempered (Community Nickname “AT Kings”)#
Arch-tempered is the highest-strength monster form of the base game, released as Event Quests in version order — five in total, each accompanied by a Gamma (γ) armor set.
| Order | Monster | Debut date | Version |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rey Dau | 2025-04-29 | First title update |
| 2 | Nu Udra | 2025-06-30 | Second title update |
| 3 | Nu Udra | 2025-09-29 | Third title update |
| 4 | Jin Dahaad | 2025-12-16 | Fourth title update |
| 5 | Arkveld | 2026-02-18 | Ver. 1.041, base-game finale |
Keep three terms straight: Tempered monsters are the everyday high-tier individuals; Arch-tempered are the version-released top-strength challenges; Frenzied monsters are the virus-based strengthened line exclusive to the Iceshard Cliffs. For Arch-tempered move breakdowns and counterplay, see Bosses.
Artian Weapons and Reinforcement#
Artian Weapons are custom-forged weapons built from Artian materials, letting you pick a reinforcement route toward your build from the forging stage onward, with set and group bonuses added. Artian materials come mainly from Tempered hunts — Tempered monsters reward Hunter’s Symbols and Artian materials, where the rank track and gear track converge; see Weapons Guide for the overall forging approach.
The fourth title update (2025-12-16) pushed this line to the max:
| Addition | Description |
|---|---|
| Gogmazios | The only Elder Dragon of the base game, added together with the new special arena “Forgotten Machineworks” |
| Gogma Artian Weapon reinforcement | Adds reinforcement and set/group bonuses to existing Artian Weapons — the core of long-term Artian investment |
| Armor Transcending system | Long-term reinforcement for graduation armor |
Appraised Talismans#
Appraised Talismans launched with Ver. 1.021 alongside the 9-star monsters — the build output tied to 9-star difficulty.
| Trait | Description |
|---|---|
| Random rolls | Skills and tray contents are random; the same quest is worth farming repeatedly |
| Dual skill slots | Can carry a weapon skill and an armor skill at once, covering both build needs in a single item |
| Acquisition | Bound to 9-star quest rewards; the farming loop matches the 9-star Tempered rotation |
Build logic changes accordingly: Decorations handle stable permanent skills, Appraised Talismans supply the random high-value rolls, and only the combination is a complete build; for socket planning see Decorations.
Crowns and Achievement Targets#
| Collection item | Official scope |
|---|---|
| Crowns | All 52 crowns — silver and gold crowns across the 26 launch large monsters |
| Mini crowns | The achievement list includes earning mini crowns for 10 or more monsters |
| Achievement total | 50 achievements and trophies, 13 of them hidden; the PS5 structure is 1 platinum + 2 gold + 11 silver + 36 bronze |
| Platinum trophy | “Wings That Soar East”, requiring every other trophy |
Achievement conditions directly tied to the endgame include: reaching Hunter Rank HR100, hunting 50 Tempered monsters, hunting 50 apex monsters, forging 5 rarity-7+ weapons and 5 rarity-7+ armor pieces, and collecting every crown. For the full list see Achievements and Trophies; for crown and collectible logic see Collectibles.
Expansion Prerequisites#
| Requirement | Content |
|---|---|
| Key quest | Clear the ★7 key quest “The Time of Awakening” (Chapter 6-1) |
| Rank gate | Hunter Rank at HR40 |
| Content | The mega-sized expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, planned for a 2027 release |
“The Time of Awakening” sits in Chapter 6-1; clearing it plus HR40 is the ticket into the expansion, and HR40 comes naturally along the endgame route. For the expansion’s news trail and version timeline see Updates.
FAQ#
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is there an HR cap? | Yes, the cap is HR100, and the official achievement conditions land on that same rank |
| Are “AT kings” and Arch-tempered the same thing? | Yes — “AT king” is the community nickname; the official term is Arch-tempered |
| Where do I farm Appraised Talismans? | Bound to 9-star quest rewards; farm alongside the 9-star Tempered rotation |
| What is Gogmazios’ role? | The only Elder Dragon of the base game, added in the fourth title update; Gogma Artian reinforcement launched with it |
| What’s left to farm after graduation? | The 9-star rotation, Appraised Talismans, crowns and achievements, Arena quests, and festival events |
The base game’s endgame is now fully formed: the rank track ends at HR100, difficulty at 9-star, builds at Appraised Talismans and Artian Weapons, and the challenge track at Arkveld. Until the expansion takes over, this closed loop is the entire daily routine — farm 9-star for Appraised Talismans on a cycle, clear Arch-tempered per version, and slowly fill in crowns and achievements.
