Decorations#

Decorations

Decorations are skill carriers slotted into decoration sockets; together with armor innate skills and weapon innate skills they form your skill sources — for skill effects and choices see Skills System. This game’s decoration system has two layers: classic Decorations provide stable permanent skills, while the Appraised Talismans added with Ver. 1.021 alongside 9-star difficulty are a generational upgrade bound to endgame difficulty, able to carry both weapon skills and armor skills at once. The graduation-build mindset is to plan all three decoration socket sources together with Appraised Talismans, not to camp a single drop.

Decoration System Overview#

Rule Description
Slot level Decoration sockets come in level 1, 2, and 3; higher-level sockets fit higher-tier Decorations
Slot count Determined by armor and weapons; an armor piece’s socket layout directly caps your build
Skill nature Classic Decorations provide one fixed skill; Appraised Talismans roll theirs randomly
Buddy decorations The Seikret and buddy Palicoes have separate decoration sockets and equipment lines

Socket level is a hard constraint on builds: level-3 sockets fit every tier of Decoration, while level-1 sockets only fit the basics. So weigh “innate skills” and “socket layout” together when choosing armor; for armor rarity tiers and the Gamma series see Armor Guide.

Appraised Talismans: Ver. 1.021’s Generational Upgrade#

Trait Description
Release point Ver. 1.021 (2025-08-12/13), introduced together with 9-star difficulty
Acquisition lock Produced by 9-star quests; 9-star is the current difficulty ceiling of the base game, and all prior 8-star Tempered monsters gained 9-star variants
Random rolls Skills and decoration tray contents are random; the same quest is worth farming repeatedly
Dual skill slots Can carry a weapon skill and an armor skill at once, covering both build needs in a single item

The dual skill slot is the Appraised Talisman’s core value over classic Decorations: a classic Decoration provides one fixed skill, while a single Appraised Talisman carries both a weapon skill line and an armor skill line — effectively making the build puzzle pieces one size larger.

Because skills are random, the farming logic differs completely from classic Decorations: it’s not “camp whichever one you lack” but repeatedly running 9-star quests and picking the combination that fits your current build from the random output. 9-star monsters have higher health, damage, and aggression across the board than 8-star, so confirm how complete your build is before farming — holding gaps with Decorations during the transition and switching to Appraised Talismans once the build is done is the steadier order. For the full endgame loop see Endgame System.

Where Classic Decorations Fit#

After Appraised Talismans arrived, classic Decorations were not retired — they moved to the foundation:

Stage Role of classic Decorations
Early game through High Rank The main skill-supplement route; slot whatever you have, keep sockets from sitting empty
Build taking shape Fill the core skills armor and weapons don’t cover, completing the “few core skills maxed” framework
Graduation Precision gap-filling: hold the skill with a Decoration until the Appraised Talisman rolls it

The two are puzzle pieces, not replacements: Appraised Talismans handle random high-value rolls, Decorations handle stable, controllable permanent skills. The key point of this game’s skill system is exactly “max a few core skills, fill the rest through sockets”; for build templates and skill choices see Builds.

The Three Sources of Decoration Sockets#

Source Description
Armor The main source of decoration sockets; socket layouts improve with armor tier
Weapons Artian Weapons carry a decoration tray natively: rarity 6 and 7 have 3 level-2 slots, rarity 8 has 3 level-3 slots
Appraised Talismans The Talisman’s own decoration tray provides extra slots, contents floating with random rolls

The weapon side hinges on the rarity difference: Artian rarity cannot be raised, so 3 level-3 slots require forging from rarity 8 materials from the start. The common graduation shape is “3 level-3 slots on a rarity 8 Artian Weapon, plus high-socket armor, with Appraised Talismans adding random rolls”; for Artian material combos and upgrade routes see Weapons Guide.

The armor-side graduation tier is the Gamma (γ) armor sets tied to Arch-tempered monsters (community nickname “AT kings”): five Arch-tempered monsters each come with a set, pairing high socket counts with excellent innate skills — the ceiling of decoration socket quality.

Seikret Decoration Slots and Buddy Gear#

The decoration system isn’t just the hunter:

Subject Decoration and gear capability
Seikret Has a dedicated decoration slot (Seikret Decorations), taking effect while riding
Buddy Palico Can wear buddy armor and Decorations; the third title update (2025-09-29) added the Palico Armor equipment line

The Seikret’s decoration slot is the easiest to overlook: it doesn’t change damage output, but it smooths travel, sharpening, and gathering. Palico gear and Decorations are part of buddy combat power; for the buddy line overall see Buddy System.

The Socket Planning Workflow#

Step Action
1 Define your build’s core skill list and target levels
2 Inventory armor and weapon innate skills and compute the gap
3 Fill the gap with classic Decorations, checking socket levels match
4 Once the build is complete, farm 9-star and finish with Appraised Talisman random rolls

The point of this workflow is turning “random drops” into “progressive gap-filling”: every step states what’s currently missing and where to fill it next. Decorations solve deterministic gaps; Appraised Talismans solve random upgrades — don’t reverse the order of the two.

Version Milestones and the Decoration System#

Milestone Changes relevant to the decoration system
2025-02-28 launch Classic Decorations and the socket system debut; sockets set by armor and weapons
Ver. 1.011 (2025-05-27/28) 8-star difficulty introduced, adding a tier to the strengthened-monster system
Ver. 1.021 (2025-08-12/13) 9-star difficulty and Appraised Talismans launch together; the decoration system gets its generational upgrade
Third title update (2025-09-29) Palico Armor added, expanding the buddy equipment line
Fourth title update (2025-12-16) Gogma Artian Weapon reinforcement added; weapons can carry random set and group skills

The decoration system is one of the few systems that kept expanding after launch: each difficulty tier added raises the ceiling of skill carriers along with it. Tracking the version cadence matters for judging which stage you’re in, so you avoid over-investing farm time in the wrong stage.

FAQ#

Question Answer
Can Appraised Talismans and classic Decorations be mixed? Yes. Appraised Talismans are skill carriers independent of armor sockets and take effect alongside classic Decorations; graduation builds are a combination of the two by design
Appraised Talisman skills are random — farm repeatedly? Yes. Skills and tray contents roll randomly; the only way to a build-fitting combo is repeated 9-star runs; hold gaps with Decorations before the build is done
Should the Seikret get decorations? Yes. It doesn’t participate in damage, but it smooths riding-phase movement and resupply — a do-it-while-you’re-there step
Not enough sockets? Check the three sources in turn: swap to higher-socket armor, forge a rarity 8 Artian Weapon for 3 level-3 slots, and farm Appraised Talismans for wider trays
Should I care about Appraised Talismans while progressing? No. Appraised Talismans are locked to 9-star quests; fill your decoration sockets and stabilize your skill framework first

The System Puzzle#

This game’s decoration hierarchy is clear: armor and weapons set the socket base, classic Decorations fill stable skills, Appraised Talismans add random dual-skill-slot bonuses at the 9-star stage, and the Seikret and Palico each have their own decoration lines. Plan all four sources together and every skill in a graduation build knows where it came from and which piece is still missing — the rest is farming 9-star on a cycle and clearing Arch-tempered per version.
