Diablo II: Resurrected Guide#

Welcome to NTGame’s Diablo II: Resurrected hub. This page covers the game’s core content from end to end: newcomer basics through ladder climbing, class builds through runeword crafting, and the five-act story through its bosses.

Diablo II: Resurrected is Blizzard Entertainment’s 2021 remaster of the classic ARPG — a full high-definition rebuild of 2000’s Diablo II and its Lord of Destruction expansion. It is widely recognized as the origin of the procedurally generated dungeon ARPG and the evergreen franchise behind gear-farming as a genre. Over more than twenty years, countless later titles have inherited its core design language, directly or indirectly.

Core Systems#

Seven Classes#

The game offers seven playable classes, each with three exclusive skill trees you can combine freely. The classes differ enormously — from melee physical to ranged spells, from summoning armies to laying traps — so play styles vary widely.

Class Role Core mechanics
Amazon Ranged physical / elemental Bow, crossbow, and javelin mastery; lightning and cold skill lines
Assassin Melee / traps Trap placement, shadow disciplines, martial arts finishers
Necromancer Summoning / poison / bone Skeleton armies, curses, Bone Spirit
Barbarian Melee physical Dual wielding, warcry buffs, Whirlwind
Druid Shapeshifting / summoning / elemental Werewolf and werebear forms, vines and spirits, wind and fire spells
Paladin Melee / auras / spells Combat auras, Blessed Hammer, Smite
Sorceress Ranged elemental spells Fire, cold, and lightning trees, plus Teleport

The Five Acts#

The story unfolds across five acts, each with its own setting and final boss. The first four acts come from the original game; Act V comes from the Lord of Destruction expansion.

Act Setting Final boss Key areas
Act I Rogue Encampment Andariel Cold Plains, the Forgotten Tower, the Monastery
Act II Lut Gholein Duriel Far Oasis, the Lost City, Tal Rasha’s Tombs
Act III Kurast Docks Mephisto Spider Forest, the Cathedral, the Durance of Hate
Act IV Pandemonium Fortress Diablo the River of Flame, the Chaos Sanctuary
Act V Harrogath Baal the Bloody Foothills, the Arreat Summit, the Worldstone Keep

Runewords#

Runewords are the most iconic item system in Diablo II. Socket a specific sequence of runes into a specific base (a piece of gear with sockets) and it becomes a runeword with powerful properties. Runewords outclass ordinary unique items and sit at the heart of ladder and endgame builds.

  • There are 33 runes in total, numbered from El to Zod
  • A runeword needs the exact rune order and the correct base type
  • The base must be a white or gray socketed item, and the socket count must match the rune count exactly
  • Some of the strongest runewords require a base of a specific item level to gain enough sockets

Sets#

Green set items are a special equipment type. Wearing multiple pieces of one set unlocks additional bonuses step by step, and a full set usually grants a final set bonus. Certain sets — Tal Rasha’s set and the Immortal King’s set among them — are core components of class endgame builds.

Mercenaries#

Mercenaries are recruitable followers who fight alongside you. They have their own equipment slots and their own leveling track. Choosing the right mercenary and gearing them properly is key to clearing Hell difficulty.

Mercenary Act Type Main skills
Rogue archer Act I Ranged physical Cold Arrow / Fire Arrow
Desert spearman Act II Melee physical Jab, plus an aura (varies by difficulty)
Iron Wolf mage Act III Ranged elemental Lightning / fire / cold spells
Barbarian warrior Act V Melee physical Frenzy, Battle Cry

Ladder Seasons#

Ladder is the competitive mode on Battle.net. Ladder characters gain access to exclusive runewords — Spirit, Insight, and Infinity among them — and cannot use non-ladder items. When a season ends, ladder characters convert to non-ladder automatically. Seasons reset roughly every 3-4 months, and the leaderboards are cleared on each reset.

Difficulty Tiers#

The game has three difficulty tiers: Nightmare unlocks after you clear Normal, and Hell after Nightmare. In Hell, monsters carry higher resistances, immunities, and damage, and some have elemental immunities that force you to rework your gear and skill setup.

Difficulty Level range Monster resistance XP and drops Unlock condition
Normal Levels 1-40 No immunities Baseline Available from the start
Nightmare Levels 40-70 Some monsters have elemental immunities XP and drops improved Clear Normal
Hell Levels 70-99 Many monsters have elemental immunities Highest XP and drops Clear Nightmare

Daily Challenges#

Daily Challenges are a new online feature in Resurrected, offering a set of specific tasks each day (such as killing a particular boss, or killing a certain number of monsters with a particular skill). Completing them grants experience bonuses and achievement rewards — a good target for a daily login.

Full Guides#

In-depth sub-guides — class guides, the full runeword list, the set gallery, five-act walkthroughs, boss strategies, mercenary training, ladder seasons, the item database, skill breakdowns, beginner basics, advanced tips, recommended builds, and PVP — are available in Chinese on NTGame’s Diablo II: Resurrected section.

That section is written against the current version of the game, ladder seasons included: every value, drop, and recipe there reflects actual in-game behavior, with nothing unverified, and it is revised promptly when updates change things. May your fortune hold in Sanctuary.
