Mistfall Hunter Guide#

Mistfall Hunter is a third-person PvPvE extraction action RPG developed by independent studio Bellring Games and published by Skystone Games. It launched on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at 18:00 PT on July 29, 2026 / 01:00 UTC on July 30, 2026, and entered Xbox Game Pass on day one. Publisher Skystone Games was co-founded by Diablo creator David Brevik.

Inside a run, you play a Gyldhunter revived by the mysterious girl Dew, setting out from the camp at Windrest to delve into the Gyldenmist: loot, fight, extract, upgrade back at camp, and repeat. The game has been officially out for over two months, and this page — like the whole hub — describes the current state: no lock-on, PvP that cannot be turned off, three extraction exits. All of these ground rules follow official notices and the patch record.

Launch Performance and Version State#

  • 100,000 players within 8 hours of launch and 1 million across platforms within a week; the earlier open test during Steam Next Fest drew nearly 430,000 players.
  • The launch discount was 10% across all platforms (July 30 to August 12, 2026); that window has closed.
  • Seasons are planned at 3-4 months. Updates come in two kinds: Live Updates (no-downtime client patches, usually pushed at 08:00 UTC, requiring a manual download from the platform store afterward) and Maintenance Updates (server downtime with matchmaking closed half an hour early; the August 28 maintenance ran about 2 hours).
  • The Deluxe Edition is purely cosmetic: the Forsaken Skeleton exclusive outfit, Shipwreck Coast exclusive backdrop, Web of Fate exclusive earring, Justice exclusive pose, Pip’s Daily Life exclusive emote, a Dew exclusive avatar, the Light Feather avatar frame, and Fate Coin ×2,500 (a cosmetic-only currency).
  • The official position is zero pay-to-win: no paid stats, no paid stat bonuses, and in-app purchases are cosmetics only.

The Core Loop: Loot → Fight → Extract → Upgrade → Repeat#

First, two one-letter-apart terms — this is the baseline for every economy and resource discussion in this hub:

  • Gyldenblod (blood gold): the currency and core resource. It funds your camp upgrades, and it is the loss that stings most on death — only a successful extraction and a deposit at camp makes it truly yours.
  • Gyldenblood: a utility material gathered while looting, part of the gear-material family alongside Conversion Sigil, Hollow, and Relic. It is not the loop itself, and it must not be confused with the currency Gyldenblod; drop rates are unpublished.

A standard run looks like the table below, and every step is a trade-off between “one more crate” and “getting out alive”:

Step What you do
Camp preparation Set up class, stance, and gear at Windrest; confirm everything you bring in is something you can afford to lose
Enter and loot Open chests, smash crates, kill the Corroded, gather Gyldenblod and materials
Kill the Returner Woodling Defeat the Returner Woodling; it becomes a bell-adorned Soul Tree
Ring and extract After ringing five times, press F to extract — the chime is audible across the entire map, broadcasting your position to the whole server
Live or lose A successful extraction banks your items; everything not extracted is lost with your death

Three Extraction Exits#

Extraction is not one point but three exits with completely different purposes, and mixing them up costs you gear:

Exit Purpose Rules
Returner Woodling (main exit) Full extraction Kill it, then ring the Soul Tree five times and press F — the entire backpack comes out with you. The blue Return Chime icon on the minimap is visible server-wide, and the chime is audible all run: you are extracting, and other Gyldhunters are converging on you
Smuggler Woodling (emergency exit) Saving a run Spawns at random during the run; you can interact and extract without any fight, but only your gear and a limited number of run items come out. It is a lifeboat, not the main exit
Merchant Woodling (loot insurance) Depositing Scattered across the map; pay Gyldenblod to send chosen items straight back to camp without ending the run. The moment a Divine Weapon drops, it should be deposited immediately

The Premise: PvP Cannot Be Turned Off#

Every gameplay discussion in this hub rests on this premise:

  • The studio offers no pure PvE mode. In the community AMA of July 10, 2026, officials confirmed pure PvE was “in the works but still needs time”; it has not launched and has no date. Every current mode is PvPvE — a player who only hunts monsters will still run into hostile Gyldhunters, and PvP cannot be switched off.
  • Crossplay matchmaking is available, but there is no cross-progression between PS5 and PC — switching platforms does not carry progress over.
  • Servers originally covered five regions; Oceania was added on August 28, 2026. North American accounts are region-locked.

Combat Ground Rules: No Lock-On#

  • Mistfall Hunter has no lock-on; it uses a free-aim system, worded on the store page as a “precision free-aim system”. Every ranged shot and weak-point strike is hand-aimed — this is the prerequisite for reading any combat guide in this hub.
  • There is no FOV slider. /fov120 in chat channels is a player-made meme, not a working command.
  • Every class has two weapon stances, switchable mid-fight. In solo runs, stance-swapping matters more than any strength ranking — it substitutes for a teammate.
  • The studio’s position on balance is explicit: a class untouched by a patch is still under review, and that is not the same as being balanced; the studio’s own nerf list is the honest class guide. This hub accordingly keeps no tier list and names no “strongest class”.

The Six Launch Classes#

All six classes opened at launch — including the Withered Knight, whose polearm-and-shield stance the July 30 launch patch specifically strengthened. Claims that some class was “added later” are simply wrong.

Class Public adjustments in the patch record (through the September 9 update)
Mercenary Heavily nerfed on August 19; from August 28, the dodges on Leap Step / Dynamic Charge / Relentless Advance lost their invincibility frames (confirmed unreversed on September 3); on September 3 it gained perfect-block stagger and a larger block damage bonus in Trio
Sorcerer Hit by single-mode PvP nerfs on August 12 alongside Blackarrow and Shadowstrix; from September 3, Thunderstrike lost range falloff and deals identical damage at all ranges
Blackarrow Steel Arrow lost its uncharged impact effect on August 6; single-mode PvP nerf on August 12
Shadowstrix Single-mode PvP nerf on August 12; a major rework on September 3 — Phantom Shift and the Free Talent got longer wind-ups, and Flurry Strike now drains energy continuously
Seer No individual entries in the public patch list so far — by the official wording, untouched does not mean balanced; defer to actual in-game notices
Withered Knight A launch class; polearm-and-shield stance buffed in the July 30 launch patch, then buffed across the board on August 19

The stance-to-skill mapping and each class’s playstyle details are covered in the skills and builds sub-pages of the Chinese section.

Two Maps: Hallowgrove and Brandrgarde#

Map Difficulty Extraction and shrinking rules
Hallowgrove Normal / Chaos The map can be opened to view exit icons (opening it takes time and shows a countdown); extraction rules are readable and predictable
Brandrgarde Normal / Chaos The zone shrinks battle-royale style as the Gyldenmist closes in; players outside it lose health through a second bar above the health bar, and it drains fast — you cannot wait until the end to look for an exit
  • Hallowgrove contains The Divine Anchor, the seat of Sálmar, one of the Mist Lords.
  • Gear-type utility materials include Conversion Sigil, Hollow, Relic, Gyldenblood, and more; drop rates are unpublished.
  • Once a Divine Weapon drops, the correct order is exactly one: deposit it with the Merchant Woodling first, then get greedy.

Mist Lords: Three Named Bosses#

The Mist Lords are optional high-end PvE bosses — not the Returner Woodling that grants extraction rights, and the two must not be conflated. Per the official developer notes, defeating a Mist Lord on Cataclysm difficulty is the most common way to obtain top-tier equipment.

Mist Lord Location Traits
Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane Hallowgrove, near The Divine Anchor A dual-mage encounter
Otto, the Flesheater Brandrgarde Main Hall Beast type: bestial charges, vomit pools, red/gold tells
Harald, the Fallen General Brandrgarde Main Hall Greatsword combos and execution windows

Three things you must know before entering the Main Hall:

  1. Otto and Harald share the same Main Hall arena, which unlocks around the 20-minute mark (flagged by a warning from the character Soekja). Confirm which one is present before entering — going in blind means queuing again.
  2. Once the fight begins the barrier reseals; roughly 45 seconds after the kill is your looting window before third-party players pour into the vestibule.
  3. The arena portal leads into the final layer of the Gyldenmist corruption; stock up on Soul of Return before entering — its stack cap has been 1 since the August 28 update.

The studio also ran a “Trio Einherjar Harald Hunt Speedrun” challenge for General Harald. Per-boss breakdowns live in the bosses sub-guide of the Chinese section.

Einherjar: One Word, Three Meanings#

Einherjar is the term most easily garbled in searches — three entirely different things share the name:

  1. Einherjar Mode (the mode): a high-difficulty Mist Lord challenge mode opened by the August 6, 2026 client update; entry requires consuming a Dried Flower Knot (Legendary), an item that only began dropping with that same August 6 update. The official word on rewards is a single line — improved odds of Divine Weapons or Holy Forging Materials — and no concrete rates have ever been published.
  2. Einherjar Ship Grave (the location): a key room northwest of the Watchtower in Hallowgrove, with no connection to the mode.
  3. A closed-beta rage phase (absent from the live game): in the 2025 closed beta, bosses entered a rage phase on their own once their health dropped low; the live game has no such mechanic — videos online labeled “Final Boss Hard Mode (Einherjar)” predate launch by 14 months.

Two circulating claims remain unconfirmed by the studio: “using the Knot at a Mist Lord altar” has no official notice or screenshot behind it, and whether a failed attempt still consumes the Knot is equally unevidenced. We do not record them as facts; in-game notices are the final word.

What is certain about Divine Weapons themselves: each boss holds exactly one, and it comes from Cataclysm difficulty — Otto’s hammer was captured by the community on launch day (July 30).

The complete entry-by-entry patch record lives in the updates sub-guide of the Chinese section.

Named Characters#

  • Dew: the mysterious girl who revived the hunter (per the official store page).
  • Soekja: the character who issues the boss-unlock warning around the 20-minute mark.
  • Fern the Woodling: handles the Underlord speedrun rewards.
  • Pip: tied to the Deluxe Edition’s Pip’s Daily Life emote and the Pouch Voucher among the first-anniversary rewards.
  • The three Mist Lords: Otto, Harald, and Sálmar.
  • The player character is a Gyldhunter, the camp is Windrest, and Camp Upgrades are supported.

Servers, Anti-Cheat, and Violations#

  • Anti-cheat: Bellring’s in-house Bellring Anti-Cheat, enabled on the PC version. Cheating leads to a permanent ban of both account and device.
  • Illegal Teaming: defined by the studio on August 3 — “multiple players deliberately entering the same match and teaming up against other players” — with penalties escalating from matchmaking bans to permanent bans.
  • Against the persistent problem of cross-team collusion, the August 28 update removed enemy name tags.

Reception and Running State#

  • Steam reviews sit at Mixed: English-region positive rates float roughly in a 55%-65% band, shifting with versions and patches; we do not quote a specific score from any single point in time.
  • Concurrent players: about 34,000 on August 5, 2026; the all-time peak is 44,472 (August 2-3).
  • Common technical issues: crashes / fatal error have no dedicated official fix yet (the circulating ASLR bypass is a player workaround, not an official one); the “Your GPU is not supported” hard gate is GTX 1060 / RX 580 with DirectX 12; frame drops and latency were confirmed under investigation on August 5; frame generation and ray tracing are the first two settings to turn off.

Five Things to Remember Before You Drop In#

  1. No lock-on: every shot is free-aim, and every ranged guide here assumes you have accepted that.
  2. Ring five times, press F to extract: pressing F without enough rings does nothing; the chime is audible map-wide, so extracting is broadcasting.
  3. Not extracted means lost: full extraction runs only through the Returner Woodling; the Smuggler Woodling is for emergencies, and the Merchant Woodling only deposits.
  4. Divine Weapons: deposit first, then get greedy: the Merchant Woodling does not end your run — depositing on pickup is the correct order.
  5. Do not copy tier lists: the studio states plainly that untouched classes are still under review; spend the effort on instant stance-swapping instead — in solo runs, it is your teammate.

This page was compiled from official announcements and public sources verified as of October 4, 2026; in-game notices are the final word on mechanics and numbers.

  • ARC Raiders — a third-person PvPvE extraction shooter built on the same risk-versus-haul discipline
  • Dune: Awakening — an open-world survival game where deep-desert runs trade carried gear for reward under open PvP
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 — a hostile zone where every excursion gambles your equipment against the environment and other stalkers
  • Delta Force — a shooter whose extraction operations share the same loot-or-lose-it tension
  • Helldivers 2 — the co-op side of clearing hostile hordes, a useful contrast to Mistfall’s forced PvP
