Beginner’s Guide#

A raid in Mistfall Hunter is one complete round trip: go into the Mist geared up, loot, and come out alive. This page skips builds and tier lists and gives you a raid loop you can follow from your very first run — what to bring, what to do first on entry, when you must extract, and which mistakes turn a whole raid into a wasted pack. Once this page makes sense, the Classes & Skills and Map Exploration pages will read far more smoothly.

The Full Raid Loop at a Glance#

Phase Goal Key Actions
1. Camp prep Set up class, stance and gear Only bring gear you can afford to replace — never your best kit
2. Enter the zone Set a looting route Clear the nearest valuables area first
3. Loot Take things, not clear the map Open chests, break containers, kill Corroded, gather Gyldenblod
4. Returner node Earn extraction rights Kill the Returner Woodling, ring the bell at the Soul Tree
5. Extract Leave with your pack After five bell rings, press F to extract

One iron rule runs through the entire loop: anything not extracted is lost on death; only Gyldenblod banked at camp and items in your stash are permanent. Weigh every extra chest against that rule before you go for it.

Before You Depart: Lock Down Risk at Camp Windrest#

  • Pick your class and stance. The six classes — Mercenary, Sorcerer, Blackarrow, Shadowstrix, Seer, and Withered Knight — each have two weapon stances that can be swapped mid-combat. In solo play, stance swapping matters more than any tier list: it replaces your teammates.
  • Configure gear on a “won’t miss it” basis. Death takes everything on your body and in your pack. Before departing, confirm what you’re wearing is replaceable; save the best set for planned raids once you’re experienced.
  • The Combat Bag is your safety net while learning. Feel free to burn them during the learning phase — zero-cost trial and error. There are free sources too: starting with the 2026-09-09 update, weekend login rewards hand out 1 Pro Combat Bag each on Friday and Saturday and 1 Elite Combat Bag on Sunday, delivered by mail at 00:00 in each server’s time zone and expiring after 24 hours — those are three separate deadlines. A player who only logs in on Sunday loses two Pro Bags.

Don’t copy a tier list for your first class: the official stance is that a class untouched by a patch is still under review, and that doesn’t mean it’s balanced. The devs’ own nerf list is the honest class guide. Pick whichever feels good and let stance swapping handle the rest.

On Entry: Pick a Route First, Then Watch the Bell#

The first thing to do after spawning is not to pick a fight — it’s to clear the nearest valuables area. The closest high-value zone has the best reward-to-risk ratio.

At the same time, watch for the blue Returner Bell icon on the minimap: it is visible to everyone on the map. The moment a Returner Woodling spawns, every player can see it. That icon is a two-way signal — you’re watching for an extraction window, and other Gyldhunters are watching the same spot.

Looting: Fights Are for Loot, Not Clearing#

There are four looting methods, and all of them directly produce value:

  • Opening chests: the most direct source of gear and materials.
  • Breaking containers: destructibles along the way; clear them as you pass.
  • Killing Corroded: the backbone of the PvE population and one of the main drop sources.
  • Gathering Gyldenblod: the in-raid currency; it’s only safe once extracted and banked at camp.

The mindset beginners get wrong most often: this is an extraction game, not a clearing game. Killing every monster and walking every inch of the map only extends the time you’re exposed to hostile Gyldhunters. Once you have what you came for, head for the extraction node.

The Key Node: Soul of Return and a Bell the Whole Map Can Hear#

The main extraction flow has four steps:

  1. Kill the Returner Woodling — it’s not a regular mob; it’s the raid’s “extraction key.”
  2. On death it becomes a Soul Tree with a bell, and you receive a Soul of Return.
  3. At the Soul Tree, ring the bell five times.
  4. Press F to extract.

Two facts belong in muscle memory:

  • ⚠️ The bell is audible across the entire map. Ringing it is a continuous broadcast of your position to everyone — clear the extraction area first, then ring with your back to cover, facing the direction an enemy is most likely to come from.
  • Soul of Return stacks are capped at 1 (adjusted in the 2026-08-28 update); you can’t bank a second one. The moment you hold one, start planning extraction — don’t entertain “let me stack two and fight another battle first.”

Three Exits: Breaking Down “Extraction”#

There is more than one way out of the Mist. Understanding how the three exits divide the work is what lets you choose correctly under pressure:

Exit How to Trigger What You Keep Role
Returner Woodling Kill the Woodling → ring the Soul Tree bell five times → press F Full pack The main exit; normal extraction runs through here
Smuggler Woodling Spawns randomly mid-raid; interact and leave without a fight Only equipped gear plus a limited number of raid items Emergency lane, not the main exit
Merchant Woodling Scattered across the map; pay Gyldenblod to mail items back Selected items are mailed straight to camp without ending the raid Loot insurance

The Merchant Woodling is the piece beginners most often underestimate: the moment you pick up a Holy Weapon or anything irreplaceable, pay Gyldenblod to mail it back to camp before deciding whether to keep being greedy. Holy Weapons are one-per-boss, Cataclysm-difficulty-only top-tier drops — gambling one on extraction means losing everything on a bad roll. The correct order is always: bank first, be greedy second.

Choosing Between the Two Maps#

Map Difficulty Extraction Rules One-Line Summary
Hallowgrove Normal / Chaos Extraction icons are visible on the open map (opening it takes time and shows a countdown); rules are readable and predictable The map for learning the loop
Brandrgarde Normal / Chaos The Gyldenmist shrinks battle-royale style; players outside the circle lose health through a second bar above the health bar, and it drains fast The map that punishes stalling
  • In Hallowgrove, extraction points and their rules are predictable, so you can plan calmly after spawning.
  • In Brandrgarde, never wait until the end to look for an exit — the mist won’t wait for you, and the second bar outside the circle will make the decision for you. Plan your extraction route at the same time as your looting route.

Four Extra Rules for Solo Raids#

Solo and trio play are two different games, and the difference is mechanical:

  1. In solo, every lost fight is the whole raid. In a trio someone else can pick up a lost fight; solo has no second chance. So the number-one solo skill is disengagement, not damage — a fight you walk away from alive counts as a win.
  2. Stance swapping is your teammate. With no one to cover for you, instant swaps between your two stances are the only “substitution” you get.
  3. Soul of Return is capped at 1 — no banking. Your margin for error is already thinner; once you hold a soul, seriously consider extracting.
  4. Brandrgarde solo queue is now open (2026-09-03 update): both Normal and Cataclysm have solo queues. Before that, this map was trio-only — any older guide saying “you must group up to enter Brandrgarde” is outdated.

Solo Does Not Mean No PvP#

Players who want to clear maps alone should internalize one hard rule first: there is officially no pure PvE mode — the 2026-07-10 community AMA confirmed one is being worked on but still needs time; it has not shipped and has no date. Every current mode is PvPvE, and PvP cannot be turned off. Going into the Mist alone means hostile Gyldhunters are exactly as real as the Corroded — which is exactly why this page keeps repeating: disengage first, fight second.

Hardware and Platform Requirements#

Item Details
Your GPU is not supported error The hard floor is GTX 1060 / RX 580 with DirectX 12; below that the game will not launch
Languages The Steam page lists Simplified and Traditional Chinese support
Controller Supported, but partially supported
Platforms PC (Steam) / PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X|S, day-one on Xbox Game Pass
Frame drops Officially under investigation as of 2026-08-05; frame generation and ray tracing are the first two settings to turn off

Common Mistakes Checklist#

Every entry below is backed by a concrete mechanic — run through it before you depart:

Mistake Backed by This Consequence Correct Play
Not clearing the extraction area before ringing The bell is audible map-wide; ringing broadcasts your position Clear the area first, then ring while facing the likely approach
Gambling a Holy Weapon on extraction Death loses everything, and Holy Weapons are irreplaceable Pay Gyldenblod at a Merchant Woodling to mail it back, then keep looting
Looking for an exit deep in Brandrgarde Outside the circle you drain through the second bar, fast Plan the extraction route on entry and move early as the mist closes
Hard-fighting a Mist Lord solo Mist Lords are optional high-tier bosses, not the Returner Woodling that yields a Soul of Return No soul, no fight; Cataclysm Mist Lord kills are the top gear source, but those are prepared raids
Assuming PvP can be turned off There is no pure PvE mode; every mode is PvPvE Budget hostile Gyldhunters into every route you plan
Trusting /fov120 or any “command” There is no FOV slider and no lock-on; the game uses free-aim Adapt to free-aim; /fov120 is a player-made chat meme, not a command

The last entry deserves emphasis on its own: the game uses a precision free-aim system — there is no target locking and no field-of-view command, and no “console command” circulating online changes either fact.

Next Steps#

Once one raid goes smoothly, go deeper in this order:

This page only covers mechanics confirmed within the single-raid loop; drop rates, fees and other unpublished numbers are deliberately omitted — defer to in-game announcements.
