Dragon’s Dogma 2 Guide#
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an open-world action RPG from Capcom that carries over the spirit of the original — a grand fantasy world, spectacular boss fights, and the innovative pawn system. You play the Arisen, adventuring across the vast lands of the two kingdoms Vermund and Battahl and challenging the legendary dragon. This guide covers every vocation, world exploration, boss strategies, and gear collection.

Getting-Started Advice#
| # |
Advice |
Detail |
| 1 |
Switch vocations often |
Vocation ranks are independent — leveling each vocation unlocks passive skills and augments that can be equipped across vocations |
| 2 |
Compose your pawn party sensibly |
Bring at least 1 Mage (healing) + 1 melee (tank). Three damage-dealers with no healer gets rough |
| 3 |
Exploration beats the main quest |
The main story is short (about 15-20 hours); most content lives in the wild — caves, towers, hidden bosses |
| 4 |
Place Portcrystals |
Once you have collected all the Portcrystals in the early game, put them at boss areas and key exploration points |
| 5 |
Be careful traveling at night |
Undead swarm the wilds at night — beginners should wait by a campfire until dawn |
| 6 |
Camp often |
Camping lets you save the game, gain cooking buffs, and earn vocation XP bonuses |
| 7 |
Raise affinity |
Talking to NPCs and giving gifts raises affinity — it affects quest outcomes and special rewards |
| 8 |
Pawn inclinations matter |
Your main pawn’s inclination drives its AI behavior — and your own behavior shapes it |
| 9 |
Manage stamina |
Sprinting, climbing, and heavy attacks all drain stamina — carry plenty of mushrooms and stamina curatives |
| 10 |
Watch the notice boards |
Notice boards post many bounty and exploration quests — a source of XP and gold |

FAQ#
| Question |
Answer |
| Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 connected to the first game? |
The story is set in a parallel world — not a direct sequel — but the core mechanics (Arisen, pawns, climbing) carry over |
| Which vocation is strongest? |
Magick Archer is the strongest overall — ranged attacks, homing arrows, high burst. Thief is next: the melee DPS ceiling |
| How do I get Portcrystals? |
You get several from the main quest — the rest come from chests and side-quest rewards. About 10 in total |
| What happens when a pawn dies? |
Pawns never truly die — falling off a cliff or being killed just returns them through the Rift — but their affinity drops |
| Can you get married? |
There is no traditional marriage system — but a high-affinity NPC can become your partner in the ending |
| How do I cross between the two kingdoms? |
The main quest guides you through the Battahl border checkpoint — you need a permit (granted by a quest) |
| Where are the strongest weapons? |
Most of the best weapons sit in endgame areas and hidden caves — bringing an exploration skill (detection) to find chests helps |
| How do I beat the stone colossus? |
Climb the colossus and strike its glowing weak points — weak-point placement differs between colossi — you usually need to jump onto its back / arms |
| How long is the game? |
Main story about 20-30 hours — main + sides about 50-70 hours — full completion about 100+ hours |
| Is there a New Game+? |
Yes — clearing the game unlocks New Game+ — levels, equipment, and vocation ranks carry over |
Gear Recommendations#
Weapons#
Correction: the named weapons listed here in an earlier version — “King’s Blade / Dragon Hunter Bow / Firmament Staff / Night Shadow Twin Daggers” — do not exist in this game. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has no vocation-exclusive named “graduation” weapons: weapon stats are fixed, with no elemental enchantment rolls. The gearing approach is “pick a weapon → three stages of standard enhancement → a fourth-stage Wyrmfire upgrade from the Dragonforged (15 Wyrmslife Crystals, weight halved)”, choosing Vermundian / Elven / Battahli / Dwarven smithing styles as needed. A real endgame anchor example: the Thief’s Divine Razors (Strength 237 / Knockdown 155; Strength 356 with a full Battahli-style enhancement).

Beginner Misconceptions, Corrected#
- Misconception 1: Buying gear like crazy in the early game. In reality, all shop gear between levels 1 and 15 is weaker than the “Rusted Set” found in overworld chests, which can be enhanced to +3 and costs no gold.
- Misconception 2: Pawn levels don’t matter. A pawn’s growth is tied only to your own level, so there is no need to grind pawn XP — but do periodically rework the pawn’s skill loadout to match the enemies of the current story segment.
- Misconception 3: Every quest must be completed immediately after being accepted. Some escort quests can be delayed; while delayed, the NPCs move themselves to safety and the quest does not fail.
- Misconception 4: Mages must bring healing skills. In reality, after cooking “healing broth” at camp the whole party regenerates 5% HP every 10 seconds, which greatly eases pressure on the Mage and frees them to carry more damage skills.
- Misconception 5: Clear the area before opening a chest. Some chests are trapped, but the traps only knock you back rather than dealing lethal damage — so you can rush in, open the chest, and deal with the remaining enemies afterward.
