Signature Systems#
Dual-Wielding#
Valhalla lets Eivor equip two weapons at once — two one-handed axes, twin swords, or an axe-and-sword mix. Dual-wielding opens up a wide range of combat styles, and paired with runes of different elements you can build fire, frost, and other elemental damage combinations.
The Alliance System#
Unlike a traditional linear main quest, the story here is built on alliances. You freely choose which shire’s lord to visit first, and every shire carries its own storyline, allies, and boss fight — the pacing of the main story is entirely in your hands.
Running the Settlement#
Ravensthorpe is the clan’s home, and as its level rises you can construct a range of buildings:
| Building |
Function |
| Barracks |
Recruit raiding crew members |
| Shipyard |
Upgrade the longship |
| Hunting lodge |
Buy hunting gear |
| Trading post |
Sell materials and equipment |
| Forge |
Upgrade and socket weapons |
Raiding and Exploring in Parallel#
Raiding is not the only path to resources. Exploring caves, completing world events, and hunting legendary animals all bring solid returns. Weave exploration into the main story as you go rather than saving it all for later — you will avoid a mountain of backtracking in the endgame.
Getting Started#
Early Priorities#
| Goal |
Why it matters |
| Unlock the longship as soon as possible |
Raids and sea exploration only open up once it is unlocked |
| Upgrade the barracks early |
Raises crew size and defensive strength |
| Push the main story to the settlement |
Free exploration opens once you reach England |
| Upgrade the shipyard |
It is the entrance to River Raids |
Practical Early Tips#
- Push the main story to the settlement first: the game truly opens into free exploration only after you arrive in England and raise Ravensthorpe.
- Unlock synchronization points early: they double as fast-travel points and reveal the surrounding region’s map, making route planning far easier.
- Spend skill points with focus: specialize in one skill tree in the early game and consider mixing branches later.
- Clear low-level regions first: finishing side content and collectibles in low-level areas before pushing into higher-level ones pays noticeably better.
Version and Update Notes#
Version 1.7.0 Highlights#
- Fixed several combat balance issues
- Added performance optimizations for current-generation consoles
- Adjusted reward weights for parts of River Raids
