Skull and Bones Guide#
What Is Skull and Bones?#
Skull and Bones is an open-world naval action RPG published by Ubisoft and led by Ubisoft Singapore. Per Ubisoft’s official 2022 announcement, it was a multi-studio effort: teams in Chengdu, Shanghai, Berlin, Belgrade, Sofia, Kyiv, Montreal, Paris, the Philippines, and Pune, plus Blue Byte, all contributed to development. The game runs on the AnvilNext engine, carries an ESRB M (17+) rating, and launched on February 16, 2024 (Premium Edition and Ubisoft+ subscribers got in three days early).
The core of the game is the ship, not the character: you command sail trim, rudder, and both broadsides, and define your combat style by building ships and fitting the right weapons and furniture. An always-online shared world holds up to 20 players, with a party cap of 3 (you plus 2 friends) — team up for world events, or cross wakes with other captains on the open sea.

This season’s theme is the Abyssal Fleet invading the Indian Ocean: a new large ship, the Junk, debuts; World Tier 4 adds endgame content built around the “Heralds of the Abyss” world event and the elite warship Abyssal Herald; Modification Transfer and up to 10 seasonal loadout presets also land this season, and the mission board has been rebuilt. In the faction war, Li Tianning’s Phoenix’s Talon takes on the Compagnie Royale — it opened on 2026-08-18, hits a ceasefire on October 27, and ends on November 3. From September 15, the limited-time elite boss event “Abyssal Envoy” is open.
