Enshrouded Guide#
Enshrouded is a voxel open-world survival-building action RPG developed and published by the German studio Keen Games, set on the continent of Embervale. You play a Flameborn, gathering resources, building, exploring the Shroud and hunting monsters in a world consumed by a corrupting mist, reclaiming the land piece by piece. The game entered Steam Early Access on January 24, 2024, and on the strength of its building feel and the freedom to “dig through a mountain and rebuild it however you like,” it passed 5 million players within two years (announced by Keen at the two-year mark in January 2026). The 1.0 release is set for October 15, 2026, leaving Early Access on Steam and PS5 simultaneously, with an Xbox Series X|S version planned for spring 2027.
This section is written on the mature body of Early Access material and fully covers the announced 1.0 changes: the level cap rising from 45 to 50, gear scaling up to level 55, a full skill tree respec, nine new spells and a summoning branch for mages, an entirely new biome whose name has not yet been revealed, and substantial performance work for low-end and mid-range PCs. After 1.0 launches on October 15, we will re-check every page in this section against the actual patch notes.

Core Gameplay Loop#
The fun of Enshrouded comes from one clear growth cycle. Understand that cycle and every system guide below has a skeleton to hang on:
- Light the flame: place a Flame Altar to claim your own buildable zone and a fast-travel anchor.
- Rescue the artisans: use the summoning staff to recover the five artisans — the Alchemist, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Hunter and Farmer — and unlock every production line.
- Build: level terrain, raise walls, lay out districts, and grow the camp around your altar into a fortress with farms and workshops.
- Enter the Shroud: venture into the Shroud under a timed survival pressure to collect Shroud Cores and explore Elixir Wells and Shroud Roots.
- Grow stronger: forge gear from your resources, fill out the skill tree, and cook food for buffs.
- Push forward: clear bosses in zone order, use their heads to upgrade your altar, and unlock farther map regions and higher tiers of flame.
This loop sits close to Valheim’s “beat a boss — move into a new biome” rhythm, but its building freedom is far closer to a voxel game: terrain can genuinely be dug out, filled and sculpted, which is a one-of-a-kind experience inside the survival-crafting genre.
