Enshrouded Multiplayer and Server Guide#

Enshrouded Multiplayer and Server Guide

Enshrouded supports co-op multiplayer, and its dedicated server ecosystem is quite mature. But the 1.0 full release (launched October 15, 2026, leaving early access on Steam and PS5 simultaneously) imposes several hard limits on how you play online: there is no crossplay — PC and PS5 each operate in their own silos — and the PS5 side needs a subscription to play online, with no way to run its own dedicated servers. These limits directly decide ‘who you play with, where you play, and whether to order a server’. This page lays out officially confirmed information separately from hosting-provider claims, then gives a pre-order checklist and update-day troubleshooting steps.

Online Limitations at a Glance#

Item 1.0 Status Source
Crossplay Not supported; officially ‘under research’ with no timetable Keen official (community manager, confirmed October 5)
PC-PS5 interconnect Cannot join each other’s servers Hosting providers
PS5 online access Requires a PlayStation Plus subscription Hosting providers
PS5 dedicated servers Cannot self-host; third-party hosting only Hosting providers
Mods and Workshop No official mod support, no Steam Workshop Hosting providers
Server wipes No official wipe announced; hosts recommend self-backups before updates Hosting providers

The six items in the table do not carry equal weight: the absence of crossplay is a verdict stamped by Keen officially; the rest come mainly from hosting providers such as Survival Servers in their 1.0 launch previews — industry-side information rather than official documentation, subject to official statements after 1.0 ships. Expanded item by item below.

No Crossplay: Officially Confirmed on October 5#

  • Keen’s community manager confirmed on October 5 that crossplay will not be supported at the 1.0 launch.
  • The developer also said crossplay is being researched for later, but gave no timetable — meaning that during the 1.0 launch window you should not factor ’eventual crossplay’ into any team or purchasing decisions.
  • Platform cadence: October 15 launch on Steam and PS5 simultaneously; an Xbox Series X|S version is planned for Spring 2027. Until then, multiplayer topics involve only the PC and PS5 sides.
  • Team criterion: confirm every teammate’s platform first. PC players team up with PC players and PS5 players with PS5 players as usual; once a squad mixes PC and PS5 members, they cannot share a server at 1.0 — wait for official follow-up or have one side switch platforms.

PS5 Players: Subscription, Servers, and Interconnect#

PS5 players face three gates before 1.0 multiplayer; the following are all hosting-provider, industry-side claims:

  1. Subscription: online play requires PlayStation Plus. Before joining a friend’s server or renting one, check your subscription status in account settings so you don’t discover the problem on raid night.
  2. Servers: PS5 cannot self-host dedicated servers. For a persistent online world, third-party hosting is the only option.
  3. Interconnect: PC and PS5 players cannot join each other’s servers — a server rented by a PS5 player is closed to PC friends, and PC-side servers are likewise closed to PS5.

Criterion when picking a host: confirm its product page explicitly states support for the PS5 version of this game; PC-only hosting plans mean nothing to PS5 players. Before ordering, double-check that subscription and version requirements are spelled out in the description.

PC Players: A Mature Dedicated Server Ecosystem#

  • Third-party hosts have supported the game since early access opened on January 24, 2024; nearly three years of accumulation means plenty of PC hosting options, and this ecosystem carries straight into 1.0.
  • As of the 1.0 launch, the official dedicated server specs and player caps have not been announced. Choose a plan based on the tiers shown in the host’s panel; don’t extrapolate from other survival games’ ‘common sense’ about how many players one server can hold.
  • The developer plans to release full patch notes and a highlights video within October; server-related follow-ups (including spec details) may arrive with those notes — worth re-checking then.
  • The game client and the server build must both be version 1.0 — the most common update-day pitfall; see the next section.

Version Match: Check Versions First When You Can’t Join#

After 1.0 launches, hosts repeatedly stress one hard rule: the player client and the server build must both be version 1.0; a version mismatch blocks joining. If your whole squad is stuck outside on update day (October 15), nine times out of ten the versions are misaligned. Troubleshoot in this order:

  1. Confirm the Steam client has auto-updated to 1.0 — check for updates in your library, or simply launch the game to trigger the update.
  2. In your host’s panel, confirm the server build has been updated to 1.0; update timing varies by provider, and a short delay is normal — rushing won’t help.
  3. If anyone on the team hasn’t updated yet, no one can bring an outdated player into the server — regroup once everyone is on 1.0.

Also, as of this writing (October 14) the developer has not announced the exact unlock hour on 1.0 day; when servers become available is subject to each host’s announcements.

A World Without Mods or a Workshop#

  • The developer provides no mod support, and the game has no Steam Workshop.
  • Direct implication for server players: ‘modded servers’ do not exist as an option; server customization is limited to the basic settings offered in the hosting panel, subject to each provider.
  • Criterion: if a host advertises ‘Enshrouded mod servers’ or ‘Workshop subscription servers’, that cannot be true under the current official stance — stay alert before ordering and don’t pay for features that don’t exist.
  • Viewed another way, this simplifies the choice: differences between hosts concentrate on panel features, plan tiers, and service quality, which actually makes comparison straightforward.

Saves and Backups: No Official Wipe Announced#

  • The developer has not announced a 1.0 server wipe; world progress carries over. Hosts recommend backing up your save before the update to keep control in your own hands.
  • Operation criterion: find the backup function in the hosting panel and make one manual backup before the 1.0 server update rolls out; if your panel supports save downloads, grab an offline copy as well.
  • Boss respawns also tie into server upkeep: community sources indicate bosses respawn on server restarts or world reloads — when a fixed team plans its raid schedule, restart cadence itself is a usable variable (single-source community info; defer to actual 1.0 behavior).

World Progress Planning for Server Teams#

A team on a dedicated server is, in essence, sharing one Embervale world. Five game mechanics directly affect the division of labor in multiplayer; align the whole squad on these before spinning up a server:

Mechanic Impact on a Team Server
Flame Altar Buildable area and fast travel anchor; initial area 40×40×40, +40 per dimension per level — team base planning radiates from the altar
Active altar cap Community sources cite a cap of about 10 active altars, tied to flame level progress — agree on counts before everyone builds one so the quota isn’t exhausted
Altar respec Skill points can be reset at the Flame Altar — the team can re-tune builds for boss fights and building phases at any time
Food buffs Keeping 3 different foods on you grants a buff — a server farm (the Farmer’s production line) is worth staffing; the whole team draws from it as needed
Boss skulls Some skulls are altar upgrade materials: the Fell Sicklescythe in Kindlewastes maps to altar level 5, and the Fell Dragon Youngling’s skull maps to level 8, the final altar — schedule team raids around the altar upgrade path

Pre-Order Checklist#

  1. Everyone on the same platform: PC or PS5, pick one; the two sides are not interconnected at 1.0.
  2. All PS5 teammates’ PlayStation Plus subscriptions are active.
  3. Clarify that the plan is rented hosting — PS5 cannot self-host dedicated servers, and renting is also the mainstream route on PC.
  4. Before ordering, confirm the host explicitly states support for version 1.0 and your platform.
  5. On update day, align versions before joining; if you can’t get in, troubleshoot in the order given in the previous section.
