The Blood of Dawnwalker: General Tips & Takeaways#
✅Every entry below is the “know it once and you skip a detour” kind, ordered by importance. Put the first five into practice during the prologue stage.
1. Read Skill Manuals the Moment You Pick Them Up#
Skill unlocking in this game has two layers: skill manuals (the book-icon items in your inventory) decide whether a node on the skill tree can light up at all, while the skill points at shrines decide whether you learn it.
| Order | Action | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Read the manual in your inventory | The matching node unlocks in the skill tree |
| 2 | Spend skill points at a shrine | The ability is formally learned |
| Skipping 1 | The manual just sits in the bag | No amount of clicking unlocks anything |
“Grabbed the manual, never read it, and now the whole skill tree is grey” is the single most common new-player snag. Read manuals get a mark, and afterward you can safely sell them for carry weight.
2. Crafting Recipes Cost No Skill Points#
Unlike skill manuals, reading a crafting recipe unlocks the matching recipe menu directly and consumes no skill points at all. So whenever you see a recipe, read it first, no questions asked.
3. Switching Day and Night Requires a Shrine#
You cannot change forms anywhere, at any time. To actively switch the time of day, you need to find a shrine and choose to wait.
| Scenario | Advice |
|---|---|
| Planning a hard fight | Set the time of day at a shrine before setting out |
| A merchant you need only opens by day | Switch the phase back to daytime ahead of time |
| A quest target only appears at night | Do not waste a daytime trip on it |
The map and journal use sun and moon icons to flag time-gated content; one scan before setting out saves plenty of time.
4. Put Swordsmanship First, Specialize Later#
Skill points cannot be reset, and Witchcraft and Blood arts each only cover half the day, while Swordsmanship works day and night.
| Allocation | Efficiency |
|---|---|
| Swordsmanship | Every point works around the clock |
| Witchcraft / Blood arts | Each only pays off during the day or the night |
Before you are sure which build you want, pressing your points into Swordsmanship is the choice you will regret least.
5. Autosaves Are Not Insurance - Keep Manual Saves in Multiple Slots#
Autosaves in this game overwrite one another. The habit to build: after every few quests, rotate to a new manual save slot.
| Timing | Suggested action |
|---|---|
| Before entering an unfamiliar area | Create a new manual save |
| Before making an irreversible choice | Create a new manual save |
| Before fighting a battle you are unsure about | Create a new manual save |
6. Do Not Linger Where Humans Gather at Night#
Vampire form’s appearance invites trouble, and the nocturnal feeding instinct itself is beyond your control. Whatever can be done by day is best finished by day.
7. Treat the Corruption Level as a Separate Resource Line#
| State | Benefit | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Low corruption | Dialogue and choices lean “human” | Vampire-side abilities unlock more slowly |
| High corruption | More vampire-side powers and options | The evil-side path locks away story space |
Do not claim you want to “hold on to your humanity” while feeding on everyone you meet. At the systems level, those two things contradict each other.
8. Feed on Animals First#
Wild animals are the most cost-effective supply: health back, no corruption gain, and no quest line affected. You can also sustain through blood drain mid-fight, but feeding outside of combat is the stable source.
9. Four-Direction Swordsmanship: Learn to “Read Direction” First#
Both attacks and blocks are split across up, down, left, and right.
| Practice | Effect |
|---|---|
| Block along the enemy’s incoming direction | No stamina cost, and a counter flows naturally |
| Perfect block | Restores stamina and creates a counter window |
| Using the assist options | The system picks the direction for you, lowering the barrier |
If directional inputs are too demanding at first, leave the “omnidirectional attack / omnidirectional block” assists on in the settings, then switch them off once the rhythm is familiar to raise your ceiling.
10. Weapon Arts Run on Their Own Cooldowns#
Weapon arts run on timed cooldowns; when one is ready, spend it instead of hoarding it. Switching between claws and the longsword at night does not reset that cooldown.
11. Use Focus Mode to Find Things#
While exploring, Focus mode zooms in and highlights interactable targets - it is how you find chests and altars. Ancient ring sites above all: use Focus mode there to inspect the altar in front of each mural.
12. Ancient Ring Sites Are Worth a Dedicated Trip#
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Count | 13 sites across the whole map |
| Opening hours | Daytime only |
| Yield | Steady drops of Witchcraft skill manuals |
| Process | Check the mural with Focus mode → enemies awaken → clear them and open the chest |
Gear from the chests scales with your level, so coming later pays more.
13. Check the Hourglass Before Every Action#
Time only advances when you act, every action has a fixed cost, and the interface shows it. Glance at it before accepting a quest, and you will not burn half a day on a trivial errand.
14. A Reminder Before Closing#
Of the fourteen entries above, only two can truly go “wrong once and are hard to undo”: mis-spent skill points and overwritten saves. Everything else can be adjusted at any time.
