Night and Blood Craving Mechanics#
🌙Night is both the most dangerous and the strongest time of day in this game. This page makes two things clear: what you can do at night, and under what circumstances you lose control.
1. What You Become at Night#
After nightfall, Coen changes from human into vampire form. This is not a cosmetic swap — it is a whole set of abilities being replaced.
| Item | Day | Night |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Human | Vampire |
| Witchcraft | Available (rune marks are active) | Unavailable (the marks have healed) |
| Claws | None | Available |
| Traversal | None | Supernatural movement such as Shadow Step |
| Blood drain | None | Available, and the main way to sustain yourself |
| Environmental reaction | Normal coming and going | Human settlements draw trouble |
2. Core Night Abilities#
| Ability | Effect |
|---|---|
| Claws | A faster melee option that reduces the number of attack and defense exchanges |
| Shadow Step | Close or open distance quickly, crossing obstacles |
| Blood drain | Restore health in or out of combat |
| Supernatural traversal | Movement that replaces a mount, used for climbing and crossing |
Because there is no mount system, night traversal effectively takes over part of the “getting around” role.
3. How the Blood Craving Mechanic Works#
Blood Craving is the pressure line this game attaches to vampire form.
| State | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Blood sufficient | Act normally, dialogue options intact |
| Blood running low | The blood drain instinct begins to interfere |
| Instinct takes over | Some dialogue options are locked out, and Coen lunges at the target uncontrollably |
The key point is “locked options”: this is not a plain numeric penalty, it directly changes the narrative choices you can make.
4. How to Avoid Losing Control#
| Practice | Reason |
|---|---|
| Top up your blood before nightfall | The threshold at which the instinct interferes is tied to current blood |
| Resupply in passing when you cross animal herds | Do the resupply before you actually need it |
| Avoid human settlements at night | Reduce accidental harm and story costs |
| Don’t use the night as if it were day | Some things cost less to handle in daylight |
5. Choosing Your Blood Drain Targets#
| Target | Gain | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Wild animals | Steady healing | Almost none |
| Enemy soldiers | Resupply during combat | Manageable |
| Ordinary villagers | Healing | Pushes Depravity up, and may cut off quest lines |
A starving Coen may kill someone you still need later on. That is why “take down two beasts outside town before going in” is a habit worth building.
6. Depravity: The Long-Term Bill for Blood Drain#
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Cause of increase | The more often you drain blood, the higher Depravity rises |
| Positive gain | Unlocks more vampire-form abilities |
| Negative cost | A large number of evil-side dialogue and behavior options |
| Irreversibility | Just like skill points, it is a line you cannot walk back |
7. Where the Consequences of Losing Control Land#
| Consequence | Notes |
|---|---|
| Story layer | Relationships and later nodes may be rewritten |
| Quest layer | You may lose key NPCs |
| State layer | Depravity rises, and ability unlocks and options shift with it |
8. How Day and Night Fit Together#
The two sets of abilities are not substitutes for each other — they divide the work between them.
| Time of day | What it is good for |
|---|---|
| Day | Shopping, dialogue, investigation, spellcasting puzzles |
| Night | Infiltration, direct assault, traversal travel, blood drain sustain |
Schedule hard fights for the time of day whose form favors you. A battle that needs a long grind, for example, is noticeably harder in daylight without blood drain to sustain you.
9. Suggested Pace for Night Operations#
| Step | Practice |
|---|---|
| Before setting out | Check blood and Depravity, and decide what this run is for |
| On the way | Use traversal first to bypass encounters you don’t need |
| In combat | Drain as soon as you lose blood; don’t save it until you are near death |
| After it ends | Think back on whether this draining pushed Depravity too high |
10. Common Mistakes#
| Mistake | Correction |
|---|---|
| Stronger at night, so fight at night the whole time | Day has its own exclusive abilities and trade |
| Blood drain has no consequences | Both Depravity and quest lines are affected |
| Low blood just means being fragile | It takes away your right to choose dialogue |
| Night is only a darker picture | Environmental reactions, NPC attitudes, and available abilities all change |
Closing#
Night gives you the strongest tools, and the most expensive bill that comes with them. Treat blood as a resource rather than a visual effect, and you have this part figured out.
