Note Tombs hold Ancient Steles and treasure chests: interacting with an Ancient Stele grants ability points used to unlock and upgrade abilities. Tombs do not produce artifact fragments — the fragments’ only source is hunting Cult of Kosmos members, detailed in the Spear of Leonidas upgrade section below.
The Spear of Leonidas Upgrade System#
The Spear of Leonidas is the legendary weapon the protagonist starts with and the heart of this game’s ability system: the spear’s level directly determines your maximum adrenaline segments, the health restored per segment, and the highest ability tier you can learn. Those three benefits are the only upgrade gains — there is no “+N% all damage”-style global stat bonus. If you’ve seen that claim online, it’s wrong.
How to Get Artifact Fragments#
The upgrade material is called artifact fragments. They are not scattered across the map — you won’t dig any out of tombs, shipwrecks, or forts. The only way to obtain them is hunting Cult of Kosmos members: every Cultist killed drops 1 fragment.
Cultists never reveal their locations automatically. You first collect clues in the Cult of Kosmos menu, unlocking each member’s identity and region layer by layer; some clues only come from progressing the main story or completing specific side quests. Fragment income tracks the Cult-hunting line entirely — if you want earlier ability tiers and the second weapon slot, prioritize clearing the Cult list.
The Ancient Forge Location and How Upgrades Work#
The upgrade location is fixed at the Ancient Forge on Andros and never changes. The main quest “Awakening Memories” brings the protagonist to Andros for the first time; the first time you step into the Forge, the spear automatically rises to level 2, and that level costs no fragments. Every upgrade after that requires returning to this Forge: interact with the upgrade pedestal inside and spend the required number of artifact fragments.

Fully upgrading the spear takes 41 fragments in total (3+7+9+22) — meaning you must clear nearly the entire Cultist roster. It’s a mid-to-long-term progression goal. In-game values always take precedence over this table.
Key Upgrade Mechanics#
- Ability tier gates: the spear only unlocks ability tier 2 at level 3 and tier 3 at level 5. Many powerful abilities can’t be learned even with enough skill points until the spear reaches the required level — the progression gate new players most often miss, and the biggest reason to prioritize the Cult-hunting line in the mid and late game.
- Health per segment: the spear has a built-in passive that converts every stored adrenaline segment into health regeneration at the listed rate — 10% per segment at max level. Holding one or two segments in reserve during a fight is effectively a built-in survival layer.
- No way to farm fragments: each Cultist drops exactly 1 fragment, with no repeatable farm. The spear’s max-level progress is entirely a function of clearing the Cult roster.
- Upgrade any time: once the Ancient Forge is discovered, return to Andros and upgrade whenever you’ve saved enough fragments — no need to wait for a specific story node.

Tip Use Ikaros (your eagle) to scan every region — it automatically marks nearby collectibles. After syncing a Viewpoint, every collectible in the region shows up as a question mark (?) on the map; clear the question marks to finish the region’s exploration.
Tip: Scan every region with Ikaros (the eagle) — it automatically marks nearby collectibles. Once a Viewpoint is synced, all of the region’s collectibles appear as question marks (?) on the map, and clearing them completes the region’s exploration.
