Character Backstories#

Clive Rosfield#

Clive is the firstborn son of the Duke of Rosaria, originally designated as the Phoenix’s “Shield” (its guardian) rather than its Dominant. He holds a fierce protectiveness toward his younger brother Joshua. After the tragedy at Phoenix Gate he was captured by the Sanbreque Empire and enslaved, serving 13 years in the imperial army as a Bearer. Those years forged his hardened, silent character. After meeting Cid he joined the Hideaway and gradually grew into the core of the resistance. His final fate is inseparable from Ultima’s plan.

Joshua Rosfield#

Joshua is the Dominant of the Phoenix — frail and sickly as a child, but strong at heart. During the tragedy at Phoenix Gate he was forced to awaken the Phoenix’s power and clashed with Ifrit (Clive), and was believed dead. In truth Rodney spirited him away, and he spent the years that followed researching how to defeat Ultima. He reunites with Clive midway through the story, and the brothers face their destiny together.

Jill Warrick#

Jill is a princess of the Northern Iron Kingdom, sent to Rosaria as a hostage of peace in her childhood and raised alongside Clive and Joshua, forming a deep bond with Clive. After her return to the Iron Kingdom she was forced to become the Dominant of Shiva. Rescued by Clive and Cid, she joined the Hideaway. Jill is Clive’s emotional anchor, and over the course of the story the two grow from childhood friends into lovers.
