Skills & Points#

Progression here is not a straight line. Emma and Koo each run their own growth track with separately earned resources, and skills aren’t “spend points, get skill” - they sit behind stat thresholds. So the right question for allocation isn’t “which stat is strongest” but “which skill do I want first, and which threshold gets me there.”

Stat Threshold Unlocks#

Each of the three stats opens its matching branches once it hits specific values. The threshold targets that matter most while clearing the early game break down like this:

Stat What crossing the threshold roughly opens
Strength Entanglement-gauge enhancements, Overload ranks, gauge expansion, plus the iai and instant-entanglement line
Blossom The homing-shot line, plus enhancements to skill damage and FP gain efficiency
Vitality The braid line, plus enhancements to max health and damage taken

Because thresholds are hard gates, spreading points evenly is the least painful split: push all three stats to their first gate, collect the baseline skills, then go back and deepen the direction you actually want. Piling into one stat means the number goes up while your usable moveset stays the same.

Emma’s Three Skill Directions#

Emma’s skills fall into three broad directions. They aren’t mutually exclusive, but early-game resources are finite, so trade-offs have to be made.

Direction Character Best for
Entanglement & blade arts Burst built around the entanglement gauge, leaning on parry success rate Players who can already land parries consistently
Tracking & ranged Adds ranged suppression and handles archers and flying targets Players who want steadier fights without always closing in
Braid & movement Strengthens mobility, repositioning, and exploration tools Players who get surrounded, or want faster map clearing

Suggested Unlock Order#

Stage Target Notes
Stage one The full dodge roll The single biggest early-game survivability gain
Stage two Parry-linked damage boosts and gauge expansion Turns successful defense directly into resources and damage
Stage three Basic multi-slash Enough to get by; no rush to max the whole branch
Stage four Movement and exploration skills Mid-to-late zones get more intricate and the payoff starts showing
Last The expensive combo branch Wait until gear is settled and the entanglement gauge holds up

Key warning: don’t max the combo branches first. They eat enormous points, and while your parries are still unreliable, you’ll never get to use them in real fights.

Koo’s Blossom Arts#

Koo grows on a separate logic: arts unlock progressively as you defeat large enemies, and all of them spend FP; bond levels and her dedicated spirit gauge run as two independent lines.

Track Content Material sources
Blossom arts Control, damage, and support commands that unlock with progress and can be upgraded Defeating large enemies, bond interactions
Bond levels Raise Koo’s cooperation efficiency and related buffs Camp interactions, daily interactions, fighting together
Dedicated spirit gauge Slot buffs onto Koo separately Zone exploration and material gathering

The early-game advice: deep-invest in only two or three core arts. One control art (restricts movement, reliably creates damage windows) plus one damage art (ranged strike or sustained pressure) covers most scenarios. Spread materials across seven or eight arts and none of them will actually perform when it matters.

Respec and Resets#

Your skill setup is not a one-time decision. Patches also added a skill reset mechanic tied to spent nodes. In other words, an early mistake doesn’t require a fresh save - reclaim the points and reinvest them. The exact entry point and cost shift with version updates, so check the current version’s notes before doing it.

Common Allocation Mistakes#

Mistake Consequence Fix
Dumping everything into Strength The number looks nice, but no new moves Cross thresholds for skills first, pure stat gains later
Maxing combo branches immediately Unusable in real fights; wasted points Dodge roll, parry tools, and basic slashes first
Only one Koo art Nothing to play against resistant enemies Keep at least one control and one damage art
Ignoring bond levels Cooperation efficiency stalls, damage windows shrink Interact at camp regularly - cheap and reliable
Running out of points before noticing Early-game progress stalls Spend conservatively early and leave room to reset

How This Page Connects to Others#

Allocation can’t be judged apart from gear and resources. Beyond stat points there’s also the split of upgrade materials and spirit stones, covered on Progression & Resources; how builds actually come together is on Builds & Playstyles; the combat loop itself lives on Combat System.

Skill Point Sources#

Source Reliability Notes
Main story progression High The primary source, tied to chapter progress
Elites and bosses High A dependable supplement
Zone side quests High Paid out alongside stat points
Zone exploration rewards Medium Side paths and hidden spots
Skill sprouts Medium Added in an update; every zone has them

Because the total is finite, allocation order matters more than allocation size.

Trading Off the Three Branches#

Branch Strength Cost Suited to
Entanglement & blade arts High burst ceiling, directly rides parries Depends on parry success; little room for error Players with consistent parries
Tracking & ranged Handles distant targets and flying enemies Still passive up close Players who want steadier fights
Braid & movement Better mobility and exploration efficiency Doesn’t directly raise damage Players who get boxed in and want faster clears

No branch is strictly better, but one general rule holds: patch the weakness before stacking the strength. If you’re constantly surrounded, the movement branch pays back more than the damage branch.

How to Verify Your Allocation#

Check Pass mark
Is the new skill actually used Actively used at least twice in one fight
Does the loop run smoother The gap between parry and counter should shrink
Do resources hold up FP or the entanglement gauge shouldn’t keep running dry
Is a respec needed Three straight fights without using a skill means the points went the wrong way

When to Respec#

Don’t fear respeccing. The patches added a skill reset tied to spent nodes, so early mistakes can be reclaimed and reinvested. What you actually want to avoid is “respecing forever” - that means you haven’t picked a route. Finish a zone first and choose based on real results; it beats agonizing in the menu many times over.
