Beginner’s Guide#
The awkwardness most players feel in their first hours of Beast of Reincarnation comes from one misunderstanding: people assume this is “an action game about one person, with a dog on the side.” It’s the exact opposite - if you don’t command Koo, your damage loop simply doesn’t turn. Internalize that one idea and your first five hours go far more smoothly.
First Five Hours: Priority Order#
Follow this sequence instead of sprinkling skill points around while pushing the map.
| Order | Task | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Confirm the difficulty in settings, and remember you can change it anytime | Difficulty never affects story or drops - only damage and poise |
| 2 | Drill Koo’s command key and your dodge key until they’re reflexes | These two keys anchor both ends of the entire combat loop |
| 3 | At the first camp, save before pushing deeper | Camps are resurrection points and the only reliable save nodes |
| 4 | Finish the tutorial, then read the tutorial compendium at camp | Nearly every mechanic the intro skips is written there |
| 5 | Spread early stat points evenly across Strength, Vitality, and Blossom | Skills unlock at stat thresholds; dumping one stat locks you out of skills |
| 6 | Unlock the full dodge roll before any attack skills | The starting sidestep is short and its window is narrow - the top newbie killer |
| 7 | Once you have workable armor and a katana, upgrade rather than replace | Upgrade materials are limited; re-farming low-tier gear never pays |
How to Spend the Three Stats#
The game offers three base stats, and skill tree branches unlock at stat thresholds. So chase “unlocks” first and “numbers” second.
| Stat | Effect | Early-game advice |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Raises melee attack and base defense | Don’t dump everything here early. It gives numbers, not new moves |
| Vitality | Raises max health | The most honest stat. One extra hit survived is one more chance to find the parry timing |
| Blossom | Raises skill damage and FP gain efficiency | Directly tied to Koo’s commands; worth alternating with Vitality |
One rule of thumb: buying unlocks beats buying numbers. Spending points to cross a threshold and grab a new skill is worth far more than pushing one stat from 12 to 14.
How to Use Koo#
Koo can be sent out to fight on her own. She auto-attacks unlocked targets and handles regular enemies one-on-one without supervision. Your job is two things:
- Use commands to create openings: control arts restrict movement or groups, damage arts drain poise, and Emma follows up with combos and finishers.
- Let her tank for you: certain arts pull enemy aggro off Emma or interrupt attacks that are mid-windup.
Her progression matters too: Koo has her own set of arts, bond levels, and a dedicated spirit gauge, and her materials come from different sources than Emma’s. Covering both sides beats dumping every resource into Emma alone.
Death Is Cheap#
The death mechanic runs opposite to most games in the genre: dying costs no experience, no currency, no items. You respawn at the last camp you rested at and walk back. Doors opened and shortcuts unlocked during the run all stay unlocked after death.
That rule should change how you make decisions:
- Want to read a boss’s moveset? Walk up and try it - that’s faster than farming resources first.
- Want to reach the next camp? Push forward even if you die; opening a shortcut is a permanent gain.
- Resting at camp respawns regular enemies. It looks like a punishment but it’s actually the cheapest parry practice in the game.
Common Early Mistakes#
| Mistake | The steadier habit |
|---|---|
| Holding block instead of parrying | Blocking drains Emma’s entanglement gauge; when it empties she’s staggered. Parries cost nothing and pay out resources |
| Constantly buying new weapons | Upgrade materials are capped and rare; mastering one workable set pays more |
| Selling salvaged mechanical scrap | Scrap is what raises weapon upgrade caps - selling it locks your own power ceiling |
| Ignoring hunger | While neither Emma nor Koo is hungry, out-of-combat health regenerates for free, saving piles of healing items |
| Assuming water is a safe escape | Emma can’t swim; entering water bounces you back to shore with the enemy still waiting |
| Saving all side quests for later | Official statements on revisiting old areas have been inconsistent - the safe play is clearing them as they come |
| Burning healing items outside boss fights | Healing items are scarce; confirm your revive mechanic is available before spending them |
After the First Five Hours#
Complete those seven tasks and you’re standing on the right foundation: you can parry, you can command Koo, your stats aren’t lopsided, and your weapon is at its current cap.
Next, read the combat system and skills & allocation in order - the first explains the loop, the second answers “which nodes to buy.” Then, the first time a boss wall stops you, circle back to the boss guide.
First-Hour Checklist#
Run through these twelve checks when you first boot the game, and most “why did this suddenly get so hard?” confusion never happens.
| # | Check |
|---|---|
| 1 | Difficulty is chosen, and you know it can be changed anytime |
| 2 | Camera distance is set where you can clearly read enemy windups |
| 3 | Subtitle size is legible |
| 4 | You know which keys map to parry, block, and dodge |
| 5 | You know red flashes can only be dodged |
| 6 | You know Koo’s commands live in a separate menu, and time slows while it’s open |
| 7 | You’ve rested at the first camp once and confirmed how saving works |
| 8 | You’ve read the tutorial compendium at camp |
| 9 | Your stat and skill points are still unspent |
| 10 | Koo has at least one control art unlocked |
| 11 | You know Emma’s braid can bridge gaps and aid climbing |
| 12 | You know death costs nothing |
If the First Two Hours Feel Bad#
That’s not a you problem, and it’s not a game problem. It’s almost always one of three things:
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| You’re getting hit constantly | Camera too close to read windups | Pull the camera distance back |
| Your damage feels invisible | You’ve only invested in Emma, not Koo | Unlock one control art and use it constantly |
| Your positioning always lags | You’re still on the short starting sidestep | Prioritize unlocking the full dodge roll |
All three point to the same conclusion: the early-game difficulty in Beast of Reincarnation is about information and habits, not numbers. Fix those three things and the same boss plays out completely differently.
