Apex Legends Resource and Loot Management#

Apex inventory slots are scarce, and meds, ammo, throwables, and spare attachments all compete for the same space. In the death causes of the vast majority of mid-and-low-tier players, one entry shows up constantly: “the bag was full of things it should not have held.”

Backpack and Slots#

Item Notes
Base slots Ten slots shared by ammo, throwables, healing items, and spare attachments
Backpack bonus Equipping a backpack adds slots; higher tiers add more
Weapon slots Two primary weapons live outside the backpack and take no slots
Shield and helmet Equipment slots, not backpack space

A Carry Template That Works#

Supply Suggested amount Why
Primary weapon ammo Three to four slots Enough for one full teamfight plus one rescue
Secondary weapon ammo One to two slots Count shared ammo types together
Shield Cells Two slots Highest use frequency, fastest burn
Shield Battery One slot Full refill between teamfights
Syringes One slot Patch up light damage
Med Kit or Phoenix Kit One to two For long stretches away from the fight
Throwables One to two slots Peak value in the endgame — don’t skimp on them
Spare attachments Zero to one slot Keep them only for a gun you carry; none for empty slots

The most common waste in real matches is carrying too much ammo. Stockpiling five-plus slots of light ammo means giving up the same number of healing items or throwables — and those are usually worth more in the endgame.

The Replicator#

The crafting stations on the map turn materials into supplies. Their value shows mainly in filling gaps, not in stockpiling.

Craftable When it is worth crafting
Ammo Short on landing or the ammo type is rare
Healing items The team as a whole is short on Shield Cells
Attachments You have the gun but lack a key attachment
Teammate banner The banner timed out unclaimed, and you are Support or have unlocked crafting
Shield upgrade materials Fast early-game shield top-up

Harvesters#

Harvesters are a squad-wide source of shield Evolution points — once activated, every surviving member gains progress. The value is high enough to justify a small detour.

Judgment What to do
On the route and the team is healthy Activate immediately; the whole squad benefits
On the route but a fight just ended nearby Confirm it is safe before activating
Far from your rotation route Skip it — the ring matters more than progress
The team is already in red armor Save it for teammates who still need armor progress

Supply Bins#

Type Contents Priority
Regular bin General supplies Open on sight
Blue bin Healing and survival items; Support opens the hidden compartment High
Red weapon bin Weapons and attachments; Assault opens the hidden compartment High
Care package High-value weapons and gear Contest based on the ring and position

Weighing Up a Care Package#

A care package is the loudest signal on the map: its landing point is visible from several directions. Whether to contest comes down to three things.

Condition Suggestion
Landed in the ring and closest to you Contest it, but take high ground and observe first
Landed outside the ring Consider it only when it is on your way
Two squads already approaching from the same direction Give it up; decide after they fight it out
The team lacks high-tier optics or package weapons Raise its priority

Ground Looting Efficiency#

Habit Effect
Hold the pickup key to auto-grab ammo and healing Saves the time of repeated clicks
Enter rooms, not corridors Building interiors beat open walkways
Split buildings on landing Each of the three loots one building, then regroup
Don’t re-loot cleared areas The time cost outweighs the possible gains
Open bins before moving on Bins often hold shields and attachments

The Value of a Death Box#

Death boxes are the mid-game’s most important resource point — and its riskiest place.

What to take What not to do
A full shield (armor swap first) Looting in place for ages
Matching ammo Grabbing a pile of useless attachments
Healing items and throwables Ignoring whether a third squad is still around
Higher-tier gear Missing your rotation window over one attachment

The Mid-Game Resource Loop#

A steady loop: loot on landing → activate harvesters in passing → armor swap after fights → fill gaps at the replicator → use care packages to decide whether to upgrade further. Each stage feeds the next one, so no trip is wasted. Once this loop runs smoothly, you will find that “short on loot” is rarely the real problem — what you lack is usually position and information.
