Endgame Tactics and Multi-Team Endings#

Once you crack the top five, the game shifts from “gunfights” to “a game of position.” The endgame gives you very little to work with: where to stand, when to move, and how many squads are left. Get those three things right and the placement points follow on their own.

Universal Principles for the Last Three Rings#

Principle Why it works
Arriving early beats arriving late Once the final ring position is set, whoever gets there first holds the options
Cover beats open ground Stand behind a rock at the ring’s edge rather than in the open center
High ground beats low ground Elevation is initiative — pinning people on the slope below only takes holding your sightlines
Less exposure beats more damage Firing in the endgame exposes you to every remaining team at once

Ring Types and Where to Stand#

Ring type Where to stand Where not to stand
Building ring Inside the building, on the stairwell side, controlling both floors The middle of the roof, or a doorway opening straight onto a hallway
Rock ring The side of the rock facing away from ring center The gap between two rocks
Slope ring Just behind the crest of the slope Mid-slope, visible from all four sides
Edge ring Along the map boundary with impassable terrain at your back Hugging a wall without knowing the terrain behind you

How Many Squads Are Left: Get This Number Right#

The first question to ask in the endgame is not “how many enemies are over there” but “how many squads are left in total.”

Squads remaining The strategy to take
Three or more Avoid being the first to open fire; let the other teams start it
Two Actively hunt for a positional edge — the only window where you can fully commit to a fight
Only yours Clean up the remaining fights; watch for the last enemy’s ambush spot

The key to a three-team ending is letting the other two teams grind each other down. The best move at that point is usually to shift toward the edge of the battlefield, not to join the fight.

What Throwables Are Worth in the Endgame#

By the last two rings, almost no reachable cover remains in sight, and throwables plus abilities are the only tools left to force people out.

Throwable Endgame use
Frag grenade Force enemies off rocks or out of corners and into your line of fire
Thermite Seal off the opponent’s only rotation path
Arc Star Interrupt enemies mid-revive or mid-heal

Keep at least one grenade for the endgame. Teams that refuse to spend a single one usually cannot break a stalemate.

Resource Tempo#

Checkpoint Resources to have secured
Reaching the top five Full armor, at least two stacks of ammo, one of each healing item
Reaching the final two Full armor, at least one grenade, ultimate available
The last ring Ultimate and every throwable ready — do not save anything for the next match

Reaching the endgame still holding your ultimate is the most common waste in the game. Abilities spent at this stage buy position even when they never score a kill.

Endgames After Losing a Teammate#

Situation Order of handling
Teammate dead, banner retrievable Confirm the surrounding area is safe first, then decide to grab it or let it go
Teammate knocked but still in the fight Cover the revive first; use throwables to cut the enemy’s line of sight
You are the last one standing Switch to protecting your placement and avoid pointless gunfights
Two players against three Give up head-on fights and use terrain to stall until the ring closes

Two against three is not a guaranteed loss — but only if you never expose yourselves at the same time. Crossfire is lethal to a team short on numbers.

Playing Match-Point Games#

Near the end of a ranked split or during a ladder window, a single match’s score carries noticeably more weight. That is the moment to adjust your style.

Scenario Adjustment
A few points short of ranking up Play conservative matches and protect a top-five finish first
Already past your goal Play freely and focus on sharpening your mechanics
Two early exits in a row Immediately lower your drop risk and rebuild your feel first

Three Common Endgame Mistakes#

Mistake Consequence
Taking the first shot too early Hands position to the remaining two teams
The whole squad stacked behind one piece of cover One grenade or one flank wipes the entire team
Trading high ground for kills Kills only pay points — losing position throws the whole match away

The Final Checklist#

Before the last two rings, run a quick pass: armor full, healing stocked, grenades on hand, ultimate ready, how many squads remain, and where the next ring’s edge sits. If two of the six have no answer, move toward safer ground instead of pushing on.

Squad Roles in the Endgame#

Past the top five, the three of you need sharper role division; everyone watching the same direction is a classic recipe for a full wipe.

Position Responsibility
Front Hold the direction enemies are most likely to come from; open fire and suppress
Mid Watch the flanks and rear; call out remaining squads the moment they appear
Back Manage throwables and healing; handle revives and topping teammates up

Ring-Close Timing#

Time remaining What to do
More than a minute on the ring Keep taking position, but do not expose yourselves too early
Thirty seconds on the ring Have movement and throwables ready to go at any moment
The ring starts closing Do not open new fights; move with the closing direction
The ring fully closes Everyone hugs cover; only make short adjustments

Deciding Whether to Take the Last Shot#

Situation The call
They cannot see you, but you have the angle on them Wait — make them move first
They are reviving someone Fire immediately; this is the best window you will get
They already hold a strong spot inside the ring Stay silent and force them to move with throwables
You are caught in the middle Disengage first — position is worth more than a kill
