Team Fortress 2 Guide#

Game Overview#

Team Fortress 2 is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter developed and published by Valve, built on the Source engine. It launched on October 10, 2007 as part of The Orange Box for Windows and Xbox 360, with a standalone digital release on Steam; the physical retail edition was published by Electronic Arts. On June 23, 2011, the game went permanently free-to-play, monetized through microtransactions in the in-game Mann Co. Store. TF2 has no traditional single-player campaign — the only offline content is a training course, and the core experience is built entirely around multiplayer combat.

As of September 2026, the game averages roughly 55,900 monthly players on Steam and ranks 56th among SteamDB’s daily active games; its all-time concurrent peak of 253,997 players was set on July 13, 2023, after that year’s Summer Update. Steam reviews total about 1.25 million with a roughly 90.44% positive rating, scored “Very Positive”; Metacritic lists a PC critic score of 92/100 (17 outlets), with IGN at 8.9/10.
