WARDOGS Guide#
WARDOGS is a tactical large-battlefield first-person shooter developed by the British studio BULKHEAD and published by Team17. It entered Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026, built around one core mode: up to 100 players split into three factions fighting over the same control zone, with a cash economy that persists between rounds turning every deployment into a real cost decision.
It is not a battle royale, and it is not an extraction shooter. The official store page states both points outright, because these are the two most widespread misunderstandings about the game.
This hub is organized in the order of “understand the rules first, then talk tactics.” Everything here follows the official store page, developer blogs, and public material released after launch; anything the officials have not announced is clearly marked in the text rather than filled in with speculation.

Three Things People Get Wrong#
| Common claim | Actual situation |
|---|---|
| “It’s a battle royale” | No. There is no shrinking circle and no last-man-standing; the win is decided by timed control-zone points |
| “It’s an extraction shooter” | No. There is no loot-and-extract flow, no stash, and no player trading market; cash simply persists between rounds |
| “It has six fixed classes” | There is no class locking. Whatever gear you buy is the role you play that round |
The Core Structure at a Glance#
| Stage | Rule |
|---|---|
| Control zone size | Each match places it randomly within a 2×2 km area of the battlefield |
| Scoring frequency | Settled every 30 seconds; whichever faction has more players inside scores 1 point |
| End condition | The first faction to reach 100 points wins |
| Hotspot | A smaller area inside the control zone; players inside count double for scoring and cash income is doubled |
| Faction structure | Three factions fight in the same field; any two going to war exposes their flanks to the third |
| Cost of dying | No respawn timer — the price is the walk back and the gear expense of that life |
Launch Performance (September 2026)#
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Day-one sales | Over 1 million copies (official) |
| First 24 hours | 1.25 million copies (official) |
| 5 days | 2 million copies (announced September 15, 2026) |
| About 2.5 weeks | 3 million copies (announced September 26, 2026), plus a Golden Joystick nomination for Best Early Access Game |
| All-time peak concurrent players | 428,666 (September 13, 2026, per SteamDB; the official announcement also cited “over 428,000”) |
| Steam reviews | “Very Positive” (roughly 79%–83% positive in the snapshot as of October 9, 2026) |

Editorial Scope Notes#
- This hub covers the Early Access version that opened on September 10, 2026, written against an online fact-check completed on October 9, 2026. During Early Access, values, prices, and unlock levels shift with patches; figures marked as “community-tested” or “community-reported” should be checked against the in-game supplier interface.
- The only officially documented September patch is Patch 0.11 (announced September 12, 2026, deployed September 14), focused on splitting the server browser and settling community-server payouts (community servers pay 5% extra cash). The “vehicle unlock-level and price adjustments” circulating in the community were never confirmed by an official source, so this hub treats them as community reports only.
- Content the officials have not announced — such as the 1.0 date, specific console launch dates, or future map names — is never extrapolated here; where relevant, the text simply says “not officially announced.”

What to Read First#
If you have just bought the game, read in this order: start with the beginner guide to learn what to bring to your first match, then the core-systems guide to understand the control-zone and cash rules, then the economy-and-budget guide to learn how to stop the bleeding. Once the rules feel familiar, move on to the maps-and-battlefield and advanced-tips guides — those two are about making every fight pay.
If you only want to confirm whether this is the kind of game you want to play, the modes guide and the FAQ are enough: the first explains what the game actually is, and the second covers purchasing, platforms, and future plans in one pass.
