Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Builds Guide#

Build System Overview#

This page lays out endgame build ideas and playstyle recommendations for Odyssey. One thing to know up front: stat bonuses in this game have no hard cap — gear engravings and Mastery Level passives keep stacking, so any fixed “maximum stat” figure stops holding up the deeper you invest. Rather than listing stat caps, this page describes the typical endgame stacking range for each stat (illustrative figures only) and covers the Mastery Level system in its own section.

Core Stat Stacking Ranges (Illustrative)#

Stat Main Sources Typical Endgame Range (Example) Notes
Warrior Damage Gear engravings + Mastery Level passives Combined bonuses often reach several hundred percentage points Core of melee builds; keeps growing with investment
Hunter Damage Gear engravings + Mastery Level passives Combined bonuses often reach several hundred percentage points Core of bow builds; stacks the same way
Assassin Damage Gear engravings + Mastery Level passives Combined bonuses often reach several hundred percentage points Core of stealth builds; plenty of stacking headroom
All Damage Gear engravings + Mastery Level passives Same order of magnitude as playstyle damage once multiple sources stack Applies to all three damage types at once
Crit Chance Conditional and permanent engravings Can be stacked to near-guaranteed crits A probability stat; no extra benefit past 100%
Crit Damage Gear engravings + Mastery Level passives Combined totals often reach several hundred percentage points Core of crit builds; no hard cap
Fire Damage Elemental engravings + elemental boosts Grows with engraving quality and Mastery investment Core of fire builds; no hard cap
Poison Damage Elemental engravings + elemental boosts Grows with engraving quality and Mastery investment Core of poison builds; no hard cap
Health Bonus Base gear values + health engravings Base value scales with gear level Determines how much punishment you can soak head-on
Armor Base gear values + defensive engravings Scales with gear quality and level Reduces incoming damage by a percentage

Important The “ranges” above are illustrative examples, not caps for any stat. Stats in this game have no hard cap: they grow linearly with Mastery Level investment and scale with gear quality and level. Stacking potential varies widely between build directions, so always go by the values you see in game.

Simplified Build Formula#

The table below is a simplified way to estimate how stats combine. Actual results are also affected by enemy resistances, level suppression, and other factors, so treat in-game numbers as the final word.

What You’re Evaluating Simplified Estimate
Standard damage output Base damage × (1 + playstyle damage bonus) × (1 + All Damage bonus), then multiplied by the crit damage multiplier on a critical hit
Assassination output Panel Assassin Damage × (1 + Assassin Damage bonus), settled at the crit multiplier on a critical hit
Survivability Determined by Health and Armor together; Armor reduces incoming damage by a percentage

Mastery Level Mechanics#

Mechanic Details
Unlock requirement The Mastery Level system unlocks once your character reaches level 50
How it works XP earned after unlocking goes toward Mastery Levels; each level grants a Mastery Point to invest freely across the Warrior, Hunter, and Assassin passive trees
Bonus behavior Permanent passive bonuses that take no ability slots and need no activation; exact entries and values follow the in-game Mastery panel
XP requirements The higher your Mastery Level, the more XP the next one needs — a long-term investment
What it means for builds Together with gear engravings it forms one of the two pillars of endgame stats, and the same stat can be boosted through both channels

Mastery Levels mean stat growth doesn’t stall once you hit the level cap: even after your gear is locked in, continued XP investment still steadily raises the damage and related capabilities of your main playstyle through Mastery passives. When building, concentrate your Mastery Points on your main playstyle so your engravings and passive bonuses point at the same target instead of spreading thin. And because this system has no investment endpoint, damage, crit, and similar stats keep climbing over time — there is no such thing as “hitting the stat cap.”

Level Range Recommended Direction Why
Levels 1–15 Any basic setup Skill points are limited; cover your core abilities first
Levels 15–30 Fire Warrior Fire damage over time is highly efficient during the climb
Levels 30–50 Stealth Assassin Assassination damage is enough to one-shot same-level targets
Level 50 and up Crit Warrior Once Mastery Levels unlock, crit builds gain the most from stacking engravings and passives

How to Test a Build#

Method Details
Arena test Measure your damage output at the Arena in Elis
Fort assault test Clear an entire fort to check your real-combat performance
Boss fight test Take on mythical creatures to test your peak damage
Mercenary test Duel high-level mercenaries to test head-on combat

Common Build Mistakes#

Mistake What to Do Instead
Spreading skill points evenly Focus on one or two playstyles
Ignoring the engraving system Engravings are a core part of any build
Wearing mismatched gear Gear and engravings should match your build direction
Never respeccing Reset your abilities and reallocate when you switch build directions
Neglecting Crit Chance One of the most broadly useful stats in the game
Ignoring Mastery Levels After level 50, put your Mastery Points into your main playstyle

Tip Builds aren’t set in stone — adjust them freely to match your playstyle. The most effective builds usually combine the strengths of several playstyles. A Crit Warrior, for example, can also pick up the Assassin’s assassination abilities to cover stealth situations.
