Control: Resonant Enemy Types Compendium#
In warped Manhattan, the enemies Dylan faces come mainly from two supernatural threats: the Hiss and the Mold. Understanding how each enemy type attacks and what its traits are is the key to running the Falter—Execution loop and keeping your health up.
Enemy Strength and Progression#
Enemy strength is set by the Power Level together with Dylan’s own leveling, and it is independent of the Zone Level. That means grinding your Zone Level higher never waters enemies down; pushing the main story to raise your own level is what actually carries you against late-game foes.
| Strength system | Description |
|---|---|
| Power Level | Sets enemy strength |
| Dylan’s leveling | Raises your own capabilities |
| Zone Level | Affects shops and drops; does not directly set enemy strength |
Because concrete values shift with versions and difficulty, this compendium covers only enemy type traits and counterplay, not a fixed health ranking.
Common Enemy Types#
| Enemy type | Tendency | Threat | Counter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melee | Rushes in close | Fast swings once it closes | Read the wind-up, dodge, trigger Retaliation |
| Ranged | Long-range pressure | Constant projectiles | Close the gap with Shift or Reach |
| Groups | Arrive in packs | Numbers pressure | Sweep them with Glaive or Extend |
| Heavy | High Falter resistance | Hard to break head-on | Break Falter with a charged Crush or Drill |
| Flying | Aerial mobility | Hard to hit | Use Ground Slam or tracking abilities |
Hiss Enemies#
The Hiss is the supernatural entity carried over from the original Control. Its enemies are mostly infected, transformed humanoids or aberrant shapes, and they favor head-on pressure. Against Hiss enemies, the priority is keeping your dodge rhythm and building the Falter bar fast.
| Hiss trait | Counter |
|---|---|
| Head-on pressure | Dodge steadily |
| Relentless attacks | Build the Falter bar |
| Numbers | Watch your health-pack management |
Mold Enemies#
The Mold is the new threat introduced in this game. Its enemies tend to come with more complex environmental interaction and abnormal states, and their attacks can inflict debuffs or infection. Against Mold enemies, deal with the abnormal states first and avoid getting ground down.
| Mold trait | Counter |
|---|---|
| Environmental interaction | Watch for hazards in the scene |
| Abnormal states | Cleanse debuffs first |
| Attrition | Control the fight’s tempo |
Falter and Execution#
Every enemy accumulates a Falter bar from your attacks and abilities. When the bar fills, an Execution prompt appears — Dylan leaps across the arena for a heavy strike that is both heavy damage and the only way to heal in combat.
| Enemy state | Counter |
|---|---|
| Falter not full | Keep building with combos and abilities |
| Falter full | Execute immediately to heal and open the Dominance window |
| High Falter resistance | Break it with a charged Crush or Drill |
Enemy Counterplay Summary#
| Scenario | Recommended strategy |
|---|---|
| A strong single enemy | Dodge and retaliate, pairing Falter with executions |
| Packs of mobs | Keep them as “health packs” and execute in batches to heal |
| Mixed squads | Clear ranged first, then handle melee and heavies |
| Flying targets | Use Shift or Ground Slam to force Falter |
The Enemy “Health Pack” Economy#
A core idea of this game’s combat is treating mobs as “health packs”. Because Execution is the only way to heal, clearing rooms too early strips your healing source for the harder fights ahead. Keep one or two mobs alive and execute them when you need healing — that is expert-level combat economics.
| Health-pack economy | Notes |
|---|---|
| Keep mobs alive | Your source of execution healing |
| Time your executions | Execute only when health runs low |
| Don’t clear too early | Protect the healing source |
A Few Reminders#
| Reminder | Description |
|---|---|
| Enemy strength scales with your level | Don’t expect to overpower foes by grinding Zone Level |
| Enemy families behave differently | Hiss presses head-on; Mold grinds you down with debuffs |
| The Falter bar is key | Heavies need specific forms to break Falter |
| The mob “health pack” value | Vital in both melees and boss fights |
Wrap-Up#
Reading Enemy Behavior and Learning#
Every enemy has fixed attack wind-ups. After repeated encounters you will memorize their movements and dodge and retaliate with far more confidence. Observation and memory are the prerequisites for handling complex mixed squads.
Wrap-Up#
Once you understand the enemy types and their relation to Falter—Execution, this melee loop becomes second nature. Treat the Falter bar as your primary target and mobs as healing capital, and combat stops being mindless hacking — it becomes a game of resources. Next stop: taking down the major bosses, the Resonants, one by one.
