Apex Legends Weapons Guide and Ammo System#

Season 30 fields 29 guns in total, three of which only come from care packages. The key change to the weapon system happens in the energy family: you no longer need to pick energy ammo off the ground, because energy weapons now carry self-regenerating magazines — at the cost of running dry in prolonged firefights.

Ammo Types#

Ammo Color Traits Signature weapons
Light Yellow Low per-shot damage, high fire rate R-99, R-301 Carbine, P2020, RE-45
Heavy Green Medium per-shot damage, versatile VK-47 Flatline, M600 Spitfire, C.A.R., Wingman
Energy Blue Reworked in Season 30 to built-in magazines Havoc, Volt, Nemesis, L-STAR
Sniper Purple Very high per-shot damage, slow fire rate Sentinel, Charge Rifle, Longbow
Shotgun Red Close-range burst Peacekeeper, EVA-8, Mozambique

Season 30 Changes to Energy Weapons#

This is the one rule you have to relearn this season.

Aspect How it works now
Ammo supply Draws from the weapon’s built-in regenerating magazine; no longer consumes energy ammo from your inventory
Recharge speed A magazine refills in roughly 18 seconds
Reserve cap Most guns hold two to three spare magazines; Volt and RE-45 carry less
Upside Saves inventory space, and short fights almost never leave you dry
Downside Extended fights hit a waiting-for-ammo lull, and chained third parties hurt

The takeaway is simple: energy weapons perform best in one-and-done fights, and in back-to-back engagements you want a conventionally fed gun alongside.

All 29 Weapons#

Sorted by class. The three marked “care package” cannot be picked up off the ground and only come from supply bins or specific mechanics.

Class Weapon Where to get it Traits
Sniper Kraber .50-Cal Care package Extreme per-shot damage; a headshot can knock instantly
Sniper Sentinel Floor Charge it up for bonus damage; excellent against shields
Sniper Charge Rifle Floor Charged laser for ranged poke; weak up close
Sniper Longbow Floor Classic bolt-action sniper; little room for error
SMG R-99 Floor Among the hardest-hitting up close; short magazine
SMG Volt Floor Energy class, smooth handling, limited reserves
SMG C.A.R. Floor Eats two ammo types; very versatile
SMG Prowler Floor Five-round bursts with good close-range control

Tiering the Floor Loot#

Which gun is strongest shifts every patch, but “what range does this gun cover” does not. Pick your guns by range coverage first, then by patch strength.

Range First pick Second pick
Within 10 m R-99, Mastiff, Peacekeeper Volt, Mozambique
10-30 m Prowler, C.A.R., R-301 Carbine Hemlok, EVA-8
30-60 m VK-47 Flatline, Nemesis, Triple Take R-301 Carbine, Wingman
Beyond 60 m Sentinel, Longbow, G7 Scout Charge Rifle, 30-30 Repeater

Corrupted Attachments#

A new attachment family added in Season 30, defined by buffing and nerfing at the same time. Once installed, some stats improve noticeably while others get worse.

Question Worth equipping Not worth it
Does the downside hit a stat you already ignore? Yes → equip it No → use a regular attachment
Does the buff patch this gun’s actual weakness? Yes → equip it No → limited value
Does it push the magazine or fire rate below acceptable? No → equip it Yes → swap it out

This season the weapon card shows the exact stat swings from an attachment, so glance at the numbers before you commit.

Attachment Priority#

Weapon class First priority Second
SMG Stock (recoil control) Magazine, optic
Assault rifle Magazine Stock, optic
Shotgun Choke / barrel Magazine
Sniper High-magnification optic Magazine, stock
LMG Magazine Stock

Pairing Two Weapons#

A sensible loadout covers two range bands and avoids both guns sharing one ammo type — energy weapons no longer eat backpack ammo in Season 30, but you should still keep one conventionally fed gun.

Pairing Range covered Best for
Assault rifle + Shotgun Close to mid Dense urban and interior fights
SMG + Sniper Close and far Open maps, edge-of-zone play
Assault rifle + SMG Close to mid Balanced, the most forgiving combo
SMG + Marksman Close to mid-long When you need to chip health nonstop

About Weapon Stats#

Per-shot damage and fire rate numbers get nudged every season, but fire rate feel, ballistics, and how attachments handle stay stable. Rather than memorizing stats, lock in two guns and drill them: one for close range, one for mid-range, until the recoil patterns live in your muscle memory — that pays off far more than chasing tier lists.
