Apex Legends Characters: All 28 Legends Explained#
As of Season 30, Apex Legends has 28 playable legends spread across five classes: Assault, Skirmisher, Recon, Support, and Controller. Every legend can be unlocked with in-game or premium currency — there are no pay-only characters that tilt the balance.
New legends no longer arrive every season: Season 16 and Season 20 shipped none, and Season 18 delivered a Revenant rework instead of a new addition. The last three (Alter, Sparrow, Axle) are still referred to by their English names.

Assault Legends#
The shared Assault passive gets attachments into your hands earlier, so this role suits whoever on the team shoots straightest. What the class collectively lacks is intel, so pair it with a Recon teammate.
| Legend | Role in one line |
|---|---|
| Bangalore | Smoke for sightline control and a wide-area bombing ultimate, the most flexible pivot between pushing and holding |
| Revenant | Forward-pressing melee brawler who excels at chasing and executing; straying from the squad gets you killed |
| Fuse | Throwables expert who uses cluster bombs and the knuckle cluster to flush campers out of position |
| Mad Maggie | Breaks doors and cover with a shotgun playstyle, built to dismantle defensive setups |
| Ballistic | Carries a third weapon; the ultimate gives the whole team infinite ammo and faster reloads |
Skirmisher Legends#
Skirmishers provide mobility and rotation power. In versions before Season 6 the class was often treated as pure damage output; today it leans more toward opening paths and pulling off rescues.
| Legend | Role in one line |
|---|---|
| Pathfinder | Grapple plus ziplines, the squad’s fastest macro-rotation tool |
| Wraith | Phase shift and portal, the safest way out of a losing position |
| Octane | High-tempo solo dives with passive health regen, paid for in self-damage |
| Horizon | Gravity lift for vertical advantage; the ultimate can pull enemies together |
| Ash | A one-way assassination-style portal; getting in does not mean getting out |
| Alter | Void walking through walls and remote portal openings, turning fortified spots into weak points |
| Axle | Team-wide high-speed slides and displacement disruption, the front line of rush comps |
Recon Legends#
Recon supplies the enemy picture. An intel legend is only worth what teammates actually do with that information — in a scattered squad, the Recon pick’s value shrinks dramatically.
| Legend | Role in one line |
|---|---|
| Bloodhound | Through-wall scans and track reading; after the Season 30 rework the ultimate also conceals allies |
| Crypto | Long-range drone recon and disruption; plays far back and needs teammates to provide protection |
| Valkyrie | Aerial mobility and squad-wide sky rotations; very risky when interrupted |
| Seer | Close-to-mid-range heartbeat sensing and exposure, the starting gun for initiating fights |
| Vantage | Long-range target tagging and bullet-drop callouts, the sniper’s partner |
| Sparrow | Vertical recon and long-range pressure, a fit for edge-of-map play on open landscapes |
Support Legends#
The shared Support passive lets you craft expired or uncollected teammate banners at a Replicator — the game’s most important safety net once someone goes down.
| Legend | Role in one line |
|---|---|
| Gibraltar | Dome shield and gun shield, covering revives and end-zone holds |
| Lifeline | Healing drone and auto-revive, the easiest Support for beginners to pick up |
| Mirage | Decoys and cloaked revives, surviving on misdirection rather than durability |
| Loba | Long-range item grabs and squad-wide resupply, the best answer in loot-scarce metas |
| Newcastle | Drags downed teammates and revives behind a shield, keeping the formation steady |
| Conduit | Temporary shield support that lets the front line commit to a second wave |
Controller Legends#
Only four legends sit in the Controller class, whose shared passive reveals the next ring’s location. Their ranked pick rate has long run low, because shifting rings can turn a pre-built position useless.
| Legend | Role in one line |
|---|---|
| Caustic | Indoor gas lockdown and sightline denial |
| Wattson | Fences and an interception pylon, for holding buildings and eating grenades |
| Rampart | Amped walls and mounted-gun bonuses, a temporary bunker on exposed ground |
| Catalyst | Reinforced doors and area obstacles, the direct counter to doorway rushes |
How to Pick a Legend#
Set your pick order by what the team is missing, not by who you happen to like.
| Team situation | Fill with |
|---|---|
| Nobody has mobility | Skirmisher (Pathfinder, Wraith, Axle) |
| Nobody has intel | Recon (Bloodhound, Seer) |
| Aggressive play that keeps getting traded back | Support (Gibraltar, Conduit, Newcastle) |
| Constantly stuck in the open getting picked off | Controller (Catalyst, Rampart) or Support (Gibraltar) |
| All three players are shaky with aim | A Support first as insurance, then talk about damage |
Three Common Ranked Team Comps#
| Comp | Composition | How it plays |
|---|---|---|
| Intel push | Recon + Skirmisher + Assault | Scan enemies out first, then initiate, using mobility to stretch the fight |
| Hold and rotate | Support + Controller + Skirmisher | Hold a building and wait for the ring, then use mobility to swap positions in the last circle |
| Hard initiate | Assault + Skirmisher + Support | Go straight at fights, with the Support covering the first wave’s losses |
Legend Upgrades#
Starting in Season 20, every legend gets two in-match upgrade picks from a short list of perks. The same legend can choose different upgrades in different matches — one reason a single character’s strength has swung noticeably in recent seasons. The full mechanics are covered on the ability system page.
