- Upgrading gear at the Enchanted Loom beats looting higher-level gear — and you can customize the traits
- Unlock the beast vivariums first — beast materials craft high-tier gear upgrades
- Set up multiple planting pots — grow several plants at once and keep raw materials stocked
- Room of Requirement decor has no gameplay effect — arrange it however you like

The Core Combat Loop#
Protego (right-click block) → perfect parry → spells (switch 1/2/3/4 to break shields) → Ancient Magic attack (F) → repeat
Protego (right-click block) → perfect parry → shield-breaking spells → Ancient Magic → repeat
| Technique |
Input |
Effect |
| Perfect Protego |
Right-click the instant an enemy attacks |
Stuns nearby enemies + counter + brief invincibility |
| Roll dodge |
Space + direction |
Invincibility frames — for red-light attacks that can’t be blocked |
| Ancient Magic throw |
Right + left button |
Grab a scene object and hurl it — high damage + AoE |
| Petrification |
Disillusionment sneak behind an enemy |
Instant-kills most enemies — silent, the core tool for clearing camps |
| Finisher |
Approach a stunned enemy |
Stylish execution animation + a small heal |
| Pull + burn combo |
Accio them into the air → fire |
Airborne burning — extremely high single-target burst |
Advanced Combat Techniques#
| Technique |
Detail |
| Spell wheel planning |
Spread same-color spells across different sets — so you always have the right shield-breaker after switching |
| Early blocking |
Hold right-click — the block stays active until the attack lands — safer than precise timing |
| Combo keeping |
Switch targets without stopping attacks — the higher your combo, the stronger certain talents and traits get |
| Ancient Magic rhythm |
When the purple bar fills, you don’t have to spend it — save it for shields or emergencies |
| Environment use |
Exploding barrels, hanging rocks, icicles — cheaper on mana than spells |
| Air combat |
Launch enemies into the air and combo them — airborne enemies can’t fight back |
The Talent System#
Talents unlock at level 5 — you gain 1 talent point per level, about 50 in total.
| Talent tree |
Detail |
Priority |
| Spells |
Enhances each spell — fire becomes AoE, shockwave projectiles, disarm explosions and more |
Highest |
| Dark Arts |
Enhances the Unforgivables — curse damage bonuses, Avada penetration, control damage |
Medium-high |
| Core |
Baseline abilities — health + Ancient Magic charge + defense + combo rewards |
High |
| Stealth |
Enhances stealth kills — Petrification boost + sneaking speed |
Medium |
Recommended spending order:
- Spells (core damage) — start at level 5, prioritize fire mastery and Expelliarmus mastery
- Core (survival) — a few points around level 10 for Vitality I + II and Ancient Magic focus
- Dark Arts (optional) — if you plan an Unforgivable route, start after level 15
- Stealth (last) — patch it up mid-to-late; stealth players can go earlier
Common Beginner Mistakes#
| # |
Mistake |
The right approach |
| 1 |
Never using Protego |
Blocking is the most important combat action — a perfect block stuns enemies |
| 2 |
Using only one spell set |
Switch between all 4 spell sets — match different enemies and shield colors |
| 3 |
Skipping assignments |
Assignments reward new spells — spells are the core of combat; skip them and you lose half your kit |
| 4 |
Never upgrading gear |
The Enchanted Loom massively raises gear stats — an upgraded orange piece beats fresh loot |
| 5 |
Spending talents carelessly |
Talents can’t be reset — a bad build costs you a 50-hour replay |
| 6 |
Not buying a broom |
A broom is essential for travel — buy it as early as possible, walking is painfully slow |
| 7 |
Hoarding potions |
You can grow the ingredients yourself — use them boldly in combat, they’re worthless in storage |
| 8 |
Ignoring stealth |
Disillusionment + Petrification instant-kills most enemies — camps don’t need frontal fights |
| 9 |
Ignoring the minimap |
It shows enemy positions and directions — avoid being backstabbed |
| 10 |
Never locking on |
Press R to lock — spells auto-aim and never whiff |
