Missable Content#
The following content risks being missed — take note:
High priority (complete before advancing the main story):
- Sindri’s Sorrow: Must be completed before the final chapter’s “rally allies” step, or the special ending dialogue cannot trigger.
Medium priority (still completable after the credits, but harder):
- Berserker Gravestones: Most can be fought post-game, but some gravestones are easier to locate during the story.
- Odin’s Ravens: Still collectible after the credits, but ravens in some areas are more visible during story scenes.
Low risk (all can be cleaned up post-game):
- Nornir Chests and Legendary Chests — you can return to them at any time after the credits.
- Artifact collecting — unaffected by the story.
Recommended Side Quest Order#
Below is the optimal order for clearing side content, to maximize rewards and cut backtracking:
Stage 1 (during story chapters 2-4): 2. Clean up Alfheim collectibles 3. Brok’s Gift (weapon hilt)
Stage 2 (during story chapters 5-7): 3. Clear the Svartalfheim sluice zones
Stage 3 (after the credits): 3. Clear all Berserker Gravestones → Berserker King 4. Valkyrie Queen Gná 5. Final collectible sweep

Chapter-by-Chapter Tips#
Chapter 1: Fimbulwinter — Resources are tight in the opening stage; use the hunting tutorial to build up silver first. Collect as many roadside chests as you can before meeting Thor. The first combat tutorial unlocks blocking and dodging — mastering the rhythm early pays off enormously later. After this chapter you enter free-roam; a good time to clear Midgard’s basic side quests.
Chapter 2: The Search for Tyr — Alfheim has many rune-lock puzzles; watch the rune patterns on doors and the ground hints. Combat intensity rises once the Blades of Chaos unlock this chapter, so upgrade your weapons to level 2 before pushing on. The barrens hide several Legendary Chests; watch for throwable axe lock mechanisms while puzzle-solving.
Chapter 3: Svartalfheim — The sluice system is this chapter’s core mechanic; raising the water level unlocks new climbing points and chest areas. The prison where you rescue Tyr is dense with enemies, and the spear’s detonation function first shines here. Before finishing this chapter, be sure to recover the Legendary hilt material near the forge.
Chapter 4: The Prisoner of Helheim — Mostly linear, with limited exploration freedom. Fog areas restrict vision and make navigation harder; follow Atreus’ hint glimmers. The Berserker Gravestone at Hel’s Gate is best attempted once your level is high enough — no need to force it in one visit.
Chapter 5: The Secrets of Vanaheim — One of the richest regions in the game; the plains, jungle, and abandoned villages all hold plenty of collectibles. After the flight movement ability unlocks, you can reach high platforms, and many hidden chests require repeated trips. Enemy variety is broad here; switch to flame weapons against frost enemies.
Chapter 6: The Destiny of Prophecy — The Jotunheim chapter is story-driven; Atreus’ rune summons gain new usable creatures. Combat density is moderate, and the focus is understanding the prophecy and character relationships, building charge for the final chapter.
Chapter 7: The Coming of Ragnarök — The ally-rallying segment triggers several large battle scenes; protect the story characters. The Muspelheim story portion previews the trial mechanics — learning the rules early helps with post-game trial farming.
Chapter 8: The Fall of Asgard — The final battle pits you against Thor and then Odin back-to-back, the two hardest boss fights in the game. The Thor fight has multiple phases; watch the area lightning strikes from his hammer. The Odin fight calls for smart use of rune attacks to interrupt. Finish all side quests and bring maxed weapons and resurrection stones before entering this chapter.
Quest FAQ and Sticking Points#
Stuck on the main story?
- Can’t beat the first Thor fight: This isn’t a hard win condition — the story advances automatically if you hold out a while; no retry needed.
- Can’t find the Tyr prison entrance: Look for the dwarven statues’ throwable switches; hit one with the axe and the water level drops, revealing the passage.
- Losing to Odin: Check whether you’ve missed resurrection stones; clear Odin’s phantom clones first with area runes to avoid being swarmed.
Side quest triggers:
- The Secrets of the Nine Realms requires returning to Sindri’s shop in Midgard after the credits to trigger.
- The Dragon Nests requires completing the spring-cleansing prerequisite quest in Vanaheim first.
- Sindri’s Sorrow has a story time limit — once you enter the early final chapter it can no longer be started; prioritize it.
Reward priorities:
- Grab the Legendary amulet “The Power of the Nine Realms” as soon as possible; its perfect-dodge time slow works in every fight.
- Dragon-scale armor costs the most to obtain, but its physical defense and fire resist offer excellent mid-to-late game value.
- The Fortune armor yields clear early-game chest benefits; later you can dismantle it for upgrade materials.
