Achievement Trophies#
God of War Ragnarök has a total of 48 trophies, made up of two separate trophy groups: the base game group of 36 (1 Platinum, 4 Gold, 15 Silver, 16 Bronze) and the free Valhalla DLC group of 12.
Two things must be clear up front, since every method below builds on them:
- The platinum trophy “The Bear and the Wolf” requires collecting the other 35 base game trophies and is entirely unrelated to Valhalla’s 12. If you only want the platinum, you can skip the DLC completely.
- Valhalla is a free DLC under its own trophy group with no platinum. So “48” is simply 36 plus 12; if any list’s numbers don’t match that equation, it contains wrong entries.
Trophy Breakdown at a Glance#

Valhalla’s tier distribution is not listed in this table; defer to the PSN trophy page’s actual display.
Base Game Trophies: Collection Approach#
Of the 36 base game trophies, beyond those that unlock automatically as the story advances, the bulk sits in two big buckets: collecting and gear building. The game’s collectibles are numerous, and the in-game collection menu tracks a “collected / total” count per category — treat that menu as your yardstick and zero out each category in turn, rather than ticking items off an unverified list.
The mapping between collectible categories and the game is as follows:
| Collectible | Count | Collection Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Odin’s Ravens | 48 | Spread across all nine realms; a raven caw plays as an audio cue when you get close. Some need axe throws, spear detonations, or puzzle-solving to reach |
| Flowers of the Nine Realms | 9 | One flower per realm, mostly tucked into favour objectives and deep caves |
| Artifacts | 38 | Organized into sets that light up in the collection menu once complete |
| Books and Lore | Per the menu | Counted only after being read one by one; search both chests and camp tables |
| Lindwyrms | Per the menu | Concentrated in the Vanaheim Crater area; sweep the fissures and caves |
Two practical tips: first, ravens have the trickiest placement — often behind eaves, under bridges, and other blind spots — so sweeping with the caw cue plus a map tool is the most efficient method; second, “scattered texts” like Books and Lore are the easiest to miss, so scan the minimap’s interactive icons every time you enter a new area.
A word on Nornir Chests: they are not direct trophy targets, but the Idunn Apples and Horns of Blood Mead from their puzzles permanently raise health and rage limits, which pays off enormously in the Valkyrie Queen and Berserker fights ahead — solve any you pass while collecting.
Key Story and Boss Nodes#
A few unavoidable hard nuts among the base trophies, all tied to story nodes or specific challenges:
- “A Grizzly Encounter” is the type that unlocks by simply progressing the opening story; a normal playthrough cannot miss it.
- “Funeral for a Friend” likewise unlocks with the main story, bound to the farewell scene with Fenrir — a “reach it and it’s yours” trophy.
- “Trials by Fire” requires completing all of Muspelheim’s trials; save it for a unified cleanup once your endgame gear is ready.
- “The True Queen” requires defeating the Valkyrie Queen Gná in Vanaheim, widely regarded as the single hardest fight in the game; learning her combo rhythm and the red/yellow block timing is key.
- Berserker Gravestone challenges run across the nine realms — 12 regular gravestones plus King Hrolf Kraki — the biggest combat checklist of the endgame after the Valkyrie Queen.
The shared preparation for combat trophies: raise your level above the recommended range, fit armor and relics with defensive stats, bring healing perks, then take them down one by one. None of these fights is order-locked; all can be revisited anytime during post-game free exploration.
One access note: Muspelheim and Niflheim both require collecting both halves of their respective Realm Seeds before fast travel unlocks; Muspelheim’s seed fragments are hidden in Svartalfheim’s side quests and main-story chests. If the trials won’t open, check for the two missing seed halves before blaming the challenge itself.
Valhalla DLC: The 12 Trophies#
“Valhalla” launched in December 2023 alongside a free update as a roguelite-style challenge mode: Kratos enters Valhalla alone, each run’s map layout, encounters, and rewards are procedurally generated, death only costs the current run, and meta progression (Mastery levels, unlock options) is permanent. The DLC’s 12 trophies all revolve around this mode and fall into three directions:
- Story progression: follow the runs to advance Valhalla’s storyline; finishing it unlocks “God of Hope”.
- Mastery and builds: tied to Mastery levels, weapon forms, and relic builds, encouraging you to clear runs with different loadouts and grow stronger over time.
- Challenge completion: require meeting goals within a single run or a specific encounter, such as defeating a particular boss or completing a run under set conditions.
The collection advice is simple: focus on the storyline early to build meta progression, raise your Mastery level, then return to clean up the challenge trophies — the overall pacing is far smoother than it looks.
No Difficulty Requirement: Platinum on the Lowest Setting#
The trophy list is fully decoupled from difficulty: no trophy requires any specific difficulty, so playing through on the lowest difficulty (Give Me Story) still unlocks the platinum “The Bear and the Wolf”. This carries over 2018’s God of War design, unlike many action games that bind the highest difficulty into the achievement list.
For platinum hunters, the pragmatic route: use a low-difficulty first playthrough to focus on the story while opening chests in passing; after the credits all nine realms are open — clear collections category by category against the collection menu; and leave every combat wall (Muspelheim trials, the Berserker King, Valkyrie Queen Gná) for the endgame once gear is in shape.
If even the lowest difficulty feels tight, the accessibility menu lowers the bar further: combat assists such as auto-parry and auto-dodge can perform the timing inputs for you, and none of these assists block any trophy. In other words, the difficulty floor for trophy hunting is lower than ever in the series.
Suggested Platinum Route#
| Stage | Goal | Key Points |
|---|---|---|
| First playthrough | Story clear | Push the plot on low difficulty, open chests for materials in passing, don’t chase collectibles |
| Endgame cleanup | Favours and collections | All areas are revisit-able post-game; zero out each category against the collection menu |
| The hard parts | Combat challenges | Muspelheim trials, Berserker gravestones and King, Valkyrie Queen Gná |
| The finale | Unlock the platinum | “The Bear and the Wolf” unlocks automatically once the other 35 base trophies are collected |
| Bonus | Valhalla | Enter the DLC after completing the 48; progress along the story, mastery, and challenge lines |
Common Pitfalls and Notes#
- This game has almost no missable trophies. Free exploration after the credits preserves every collectible and favour opportunity; missed ravens and unread books can all be picked up later — no trophy “locks out after a certain chapter”.
- Some main-story dialogue and scenes are irreversible, but no trophy binds to them, so don’t stress trophies while pushing the story.
- The update-added New Game+ lets you carry gear, skills, and levels into a fresh run; collection and combat trophies unlock just fine on a second playthrough, often more easily since gear comes together faster.
- Maxing all three weapons (Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos, Draupnir Spear) takes a large amount of endgame materials; farm them in bulk during endgame cleanup to avoid repeated mid-run backtracking.
- Armor set and relic collection targets likewise follow the base list; materials come mainly from endgame challenges and realm chests, and filling them in after the credits is most efficient.
- Grinding Valhalla’s challenge trophies at too low a Mastery level is pure misery; pushing the storyline to bank progression first is the right call.
- Trophy counts may change with patches or later content; if a platform’s display disagrees with this page, the platform’s live data wins.
List Verification Notes#
This page gives the structure, methods, and representative trophies rather than listing all 48 trophy names — official display is authoritative, and secondhand lists often carry mistranslations and miscounts. Verify the full list against these two live pages:
- PlayStation: the PSN trophy page (view in the store or the console’s trophy app);
- PC: the Steam achievements page.
One platform note: the PC version arrived on Steam in 2024, its achievement system maps one-to-one to the base game’s trophies, and Valhalla content is included via updates, so this page’s 48 equation holds on both platforms; the only difference is that PC has no platinum concept — completing all achievements on Steam is the equivalent end goal.
If the PSN or Steam pages show trophy counts or tier distributions that differ from this page’s tables, the platforms’ live display always wins.
