Diablo IV Builds Guide#

A build in this game is assembled from three things: skill choices, gear aspects, and the Paragon board with its glyphs. Remove any one of the three and it stops working, so every build below is explained in three parts: how to play it, what to stack, and what gear to look for.

One caveat: patches change the exact numbers, and this article only describes the operating logic of each build. When it lands on your own character, go by what’s actually tested in the current season.

1. Barbarian#

Whirlwind Build#

How to play: Gather packs together with a basic skill or Charge, stack buffs with War Cry and Challenging Shout, then hold Whirlwind to clear. Against elites, weave in one high-damage core skill to break their rhythm.

What to stack: Strength first, then attack speed, critical chance and resource generation. Whirlwind is a sustained drain on Fury, and without enough resource generation the loop stalls.

What to look for: Aspects that extend Berserking and cut Fury costs are the core; use a two-handed sword for critical damage, with a second two-handed weapon providing a second set of aspects.

Hammer of the Ancients Build#

How to play: Build Fury with basic skills, and once Berserking triggers, release Hammer of the Ancients to flatten a whole pack of elites in one swing. The key is compressing your burst window into the few seconds when every buff is up.

What to stack: Strength, critical damage, critical chance, and Hammer of the Ancients skill ranks.

What to look for: An aspect combination that boosts core skill damage and maximum Fury; on rings and amulet, prioritize crit-related multipliers.

Bash Build#

How to play: Use the basic skill as your main damage source, pushing damage higher through stacking; the rhythm leans even harder on standing still than Whirlwind.

What to stack: Strength, attack speed, basic skill damage.

What to look for: Aspects that boost basic skills are the prerequisite for this build to come online — a playstyle with relatively high gear requirements.

2. Sorcerer#

Frozen Orb Build#

How to play: Open with Frost Nova to freeze, then release Frozen Orb through the crowd, keeping Ice Armor up for self-protection while it flies. Freezing is both crowd control and the trigger condition for the follow-up damage.

What to stack: Intelligence, critical damage, critical chance, cooldown reduction.

What to look for: Aspects with freeze-related effects, plus affixes that let Frozen Orb hit multiple times. Putting auto-triggered skills in the enchantment slots saves the most input.

Blizzard Build#

How to play: Cover the battlefield with Blizzard for sustained chill and damage, then clean up enemies pinned inside it with Ice Shard-style skills.

What to stack: Intelligence, damage over time, area of effect.

What to look for: Aspects that widen Blizzard’s area and extend its duration; cooldown reduction keeps the coverage from breaking.

Firewall Build#

How to play: Lay firewalls across the pack’s path and let the enemies walk into the burn, then stack ignite effects for sustained damage on top.

What to stack: Intelligence, damage over time, fire skill ranks.

What to look for: Aspects that boost burning damage and Firewall duration. This playstyle rewards reading the map-clear rhythm more than raw mechanical skill.

3. Druid#

Avalanche Build#

How to play: Generate spirit with Landslide, run Avalanche as your core damage output, and keep control up with Cyclone Armor and vines along the way. The damage bonus in bear form makes this loop even more stable.

What to stack: Willpower, critical damage, core skill damage, resource generation.

What to look for: The aspect that lets Avalanche cast one additional time is the key to coming online; beyond that you need codex entries and affixes that extend earth skill range.

Storm Wolf Build#

How to play: Cast storm skills in werewolf form, triggering a stream of crits off high attack speed; Rabies handles laying down poison.

What to stack: Willpower, attack speed, critical chance.

What to look for: The unique item that grants werewolf skills the Storm tag is the prerequisite for this build; the power gap before you get it is significant.

Pulverize Build#

How to play: Slam the ground in bear form for area clears — simple and direct, and a good bridge build right after hitting level cap.

What to stack: Willpower, armor, life, critical chance.

What to look for: Aspects that boost werebear damage and damage reduction are enough; reliance on uniques is relatively low.

4. Rogue#

Penetrating Shot Build#

How to play: Generate energy with the puncturing basic skill, apply Shadow Imbuement to your weapon, then fire Penetrating Shot through entire rows of enemies — kills trigger chained shadow explosions.

What to stack: Dexterity, critical damage, vulnerable damage, imbuement skill ranks.

What to look for: The aspect that stops Penetrating Shot from losing damage against subsequent targets is the core; add cooldown reduction on the amulet.

Rapid Fire Build#

How to play: Keep enemies at range and channel continuous fire — built mainly for bosses and single-target elites.

What to stack: Dexterity, critical damage, attack speed.

What to look for: An aspect combination that raises core skill ranks and attack speed, with high demands on single-target damage multipliers.

Death Trap Build#

How to play: Drop Death Trap to pull packs together, then use Shadow Imbuement and puncturing kills to reset the trap, forming a chained loop.

What to stack: Dexterity, cooldown reduction, trap-related skill ranks.

What to look for: The unique item that shortens the trap’s reset time is what makes the loop actually spin.

5. Necromancer#

Bone Spear Build#

How to play: Generate corpses and Essence with Decompose, fire Bone Spear into dense areas, use Bone Prison to lock elites and apply Vulnerable, and keep Blood Mist up to stay alive.

What to stack: Intelligence, critical damage, maximum Essence.

What to look for: Aspects that split Bone Spear or add extra hits are the core. Once online, you’ll usually sacrifice all three minion types for personal bonuses.

Blood Build#

How to play: Use Blood Surge and Blood Wave for wide-area damage and self-healing, driving high bursts through Overpower’s separate damage multiplier.

What to stack: Intelligence, Overpower, damage over time, life.

What to look for: Aspects that raise blood orb cap and Overpower damage; on helm and chest, prioritize survivability first.

Summoner Build#

How to play: Skeletal Warriors and Skeletal Mages carry the damage, the Golem handles aggro, and you only command and top up damage.

What to stack: Intelligence, minion damage, minion-related skill ranks.

What to look for: Uniques that raise minion count and damage; once online, you can stand very far away.

6. Spiritborn#

Jaguar Build#

How to play: Take the Jaguar guardian for the attack speed bonus, strike at high frequency with claw skills, and reset skill cooldowns through dodges, forming an extremely short loop.

What to stack: Dexterity, attack speed, critical chance.

What to look for: Aspects that amplify attack speed returns, plus affixes that improve resource recovery.

Eagle Build#

How to play: Use the Eagle guardian to pick targets from range, keep a safe position through high mobility, and release empowered skills once crits charge them up.

What to stack: Dexterity, critical damage, ranged skill ranks.

What to look for: Aspects that boost ranged crit multipliers; fill your gear out with dodge and movement speed.

Gorilla Build#

How to play: Take the Gorilla guardian for shields and damage reduction, actively run to the front to soak damage, and hold the frontline for your party.

What to stack: Dexterity, life, armor, total damage reduction.

What to look for: Aspects that strengthen shields and damage reduction; other slots can relax their damage affixes.

7. Paladin#

Aura Build#

How to play: Run a persistent aura for party-wide damage boost and healing while dealing damage with holy skills — the most balanced offense-and-defense route.

What to stack: Strength, cooldown reduction, holy damage.

What to look for: Aspects that widen aura radius and effects; amulet and rings cover cooldown.

Blessed Hammer Build#

How to play: Cover the battlefield with hammers flying out in rings, stacking the Oath’s combo bonus to grow stronger with every hit.

What to stack: Strength, critical damage, attack speed.

What to look for: Aspects that raise hammer skill count and damage; once online, pack clearing is very fast.

Juggernaut Counter Build#

How to play: Convert damage taken into counter strength through the Juggernaut Oath, rolling a snowball while standing inside monster packs.

What to stack: Strength, armor, life, thorns.

What to look for: Aspects that tie damage reduction to counterattacks — suited to players who like fighting up close.

8. Warlock#

Demon Summoning Build#

How to play: Keep summoning demons to flood the field, then sacrifice them as consumables at key moments for burst damage — a rhythm that alternates summoning and bursting.

What to stack: Intelligence, demon damage, resource generation.

What to look for: Aspects that raise summon count and sacrifice returns.

Sacrifice Burst Build#

How to play: Weaken enemies with curses and marks first, then burn all your accumulated resources in one sacrifice burst of area damage.

What to stack: Intelligence, critical damage, shadow and hellfire damage.

What to look for: An aspect combination built around soul shards, with fairly high cooldown reduction demands.

Choosing Your Build#

Your Preference Builds That Fit
Minimal inputs Necromancer summoner, Paladin aura
Pushing high tiers Sorcerer frost, Barbarian burst, Druid Avalanche
Fast pace Spiritborn Jaguar, Rogue Dance of Knives
Screen-wide clears Sorcerer Firewall, Warlock sacrifice burst
Party centerpiece Paladin aura, Necromancer summoner

Power rankings reshuffle every season; the build truly worth investing in is the one that feels right in your hands. A build you’ve mastered will usually outperform an unfamiliar “meta answer” by several Torment tiers.
