Avowed Upgrade System#
Avowed has no “craft new gear” loop. Upgrading comes down to two things only: raising the quality tier of gear you already own, and enchanting unique gear. Both are done at camp, and the heart of any camp is that giant Adra column.
Camp and Workstations#
| Workstation | Function |
|---|---|
| Workbench | Raises the quality tier of weapons and armor |
| Enchanting Table | Works only on unique gear, strengthening or replacing its signature effect |
| Cooking Spot | Prepares food that provides lasting buffs |
The camp itself is also a fast-travel point. You can return to camp from any open area at any time, and after finishing your business you can choose to return to your previous spot without losing progress.
Upgrade Flow#
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Make camp at any Adra column |
| 2 | Enter the workbench tent with the anvil |
| 3 | Select the weapon or armor you want to upgrade |
| 4 | Confirm once the material and coin requirements are met |
| 5 | Crossing a major tier may require extra rare materials |
Upgrading consumes both materials and currency, and the currency cost rises with each tier.
Five Material Lines#
Materials are split into five lines by gear type, and each line has five tiers. This is the single most useful table to memorize in Avowed.
| Tier | Herb | Wood | Metal | Leather |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | Paradise Ladder | Softwood Branch | Iron Chunk | Hide |
| Fine | Hylea’s Talon | Hardwood Branch | Steel Chunk | Tanned Hide |
| Exceptional | Admeth’s Wyrt | Petrified Wood Branch | White Steel Chunk | Stalker Hide |
| Superb | Cave Coral | Blackwood Branch | Living Iron Chunk | Balarok Hide |
| Legendary | Bloodwrithe Mushroom | Glasswood Branch | Living Steel Chunk | Dragon Hide |
| Use | Material Line |
|---|---|
| Bows, wands, grimoires, shields | Wood |
| Melee weapons | Metal |
| Armor | Leather |
| Base cost of every upgrade | Herb |
| Unique gear crossing tiers | Adra line |
The Adra Material Line#
Moving unique gear across a major tier requires dedicated Adra materials, which can only be obtained by breaking down unique gear or opening certain chests.
| Tier Jump | Material Required |
|---|---|
| Top of Common to Fine | Adra |
| Top of Fine to Exceptional | Awakened Adra |
| Top of Exceptional to Superb | Corrupted Adra |
| Top of Superb to Legendary | Adra Ban |
Because Adra materials are limited, spreading them across several unique items is a bad idea. Picking one or two and pushing them all the way to the top is far more practical.
Regional Resource Distribution#
| Region | Main Resource Tier |
|---|---|
| Dawnshore | Common |
| Emerald Stair | Fine and Exceptional |
| Shatterscarp | Exceptional and Superb |
| Galawain’s Tusks | Mostly Superb |
This also explains why your gear tier has to keep up when you cross regions: the tier of materials you find is pinned to the region.
Enchanting#
Enchanting is open only to unique gear, and the rules are strict.
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Scope | Unique weapons and unique armor only |
| Number of choices | Usually one of two |
| Reversible? | No, confirm before enchanting |
| Attempt limit | Each piece of gear can be enchanted only once |
| Cost | Rare materials plus coin |
| Enchant Material Examples | Enchant Material Examples |
|---|---|
| Awakened Wood | Bear Claw |
| Beetle Shell | Bound Copper |
| Damp Spore | Ogre Blood |
| Primal Flame | Primal Rock |
| Primal Water | Primal Wind |
| Spider Leg | Spirit Residue |
| Vessel Bone | Vessel Flesh |
| Lizardfolk Tongue |
Most of these materials drop from specific enemies, so if you want a particular enchant you first have to know where to farm it.
Enchanting Example#
Take the one-handed flame sword Daylight’s Afterglow. Its signature effect boosts fire damage, and enchanting lets you choose one of two paths.
| Enchant Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Golden Sun’s Peak | Killing an enemy restores a portion of max health |
| Dazzling Dawn | A successful parry inflicts heavy stagger on the attacker |
This one-of-two design runs through every unique item: one path leans toward sustain, the other toward combat tempo. Pick based on which one you are missing more.
Upgrade Priority Suggestions#
| Priority | Target | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main weapon | Directly decides how fast you clear enemies |
| 2 | Chest armor | Decides whether you survive one round of attacks from same-tier enemies |
| 3 | Enchant on the unique main weapon | A one-time, long-term payoff |
| 4 | Off-hand weapon | Covers weaknesses, can sit a tier lower |
| 5 | Trinkets, gauntlets and boots | Meaningful bonuses, but the lowest upgrade priority |
