Destiny 2 FAQ#
Here are the questions Destiny 2 players ask most often, with clear answers covering matchmaking, microtransactions, story seasons, character management, and data retention.
Crossplay and Matchmaking#
Does Destiny 2 support crossplay?#
Yes. Players on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox can team up across platforms. Destiny 2 supports full crossplay, making it easy to play with friends no matter which platform they’re on.
Crossplay is tied to your Bungie.net account, so make sure it’s set up before you start sending invites.
How do I team up with friends?#
Add friends through the in-game friends list, or invite them into activities like the Crucible and Strikes. Cross-platform friends can group up normally.
Microtransactions and Currencies#
Is the game free to play?#
The base game of Destiny 2 is free and includes the foundational campaign and regular activities. Expansions, seasons, and some cosmetic content are paid.
If you’re just testing the waters, the free content offers plenty to do before you commit to a purchase.
What is Bright Dust?#
Bright Dust is an in-game currency earned by playing. You can spend it with vendors such as Xûr to pick up Exotic gear and items.
What is Silver?#
Silver is usually bought with real money and is used for cosmetic items and certain content. Gear in the game itself is primarily earned through play.
Story and Seasons#
Which expansion should I play first?#
New players can start with the free base game, then follow the story in the order Beyond Light → The Witch Queen → Lightfall → The Final Shape. Bungie has reopened content that was previously vaulted, so you can experience it freely.
What happens when a season ends?#
Once a season ends, its season pass can no longer be leveled, but rewards you’ve already unlocked stay claimable. Some limited-time seasonal activities and content go offline with the season.
Bungie usually previews what’s rotating out, so check the seasonal roadmap if you want to finish something before it disappears.
Characters and Progress#
How many characters can I create?#
You can create multiple characters, one for each class (Titan, Warlock, Hunter). All characters on your account share resources and collections.
Trying all three classes is the easiest way to find the playstyle that clicks for you.
Is my data kept after deleting a character?#
After deleting a character, account-bound collections and resources are usually kept, but the character’s own gear and Power level are lost. Think twice before deleting a character.
Weapons and the Armory#
What are Red Border weapons?#
Red Border weapons are the versions that can be forged through the weapon crafting system. Once you’ve obtained a Red Border weapon, you can craft the roll you want at the Relic.
How do I get Legendary weapons?#
Legendary weapons come from many sources: Strikes, raids, dungeons, seasonal activities, and vendor rotations. Check the weekly vendor and Xûr rotations.
Power Level and Strength#
How do I raise my Power level quickly?#
Complete weekly bounties and Seasonal Challenges to earn Powerful rewards.
Once you reach the hard cap, keep pushing through Legendary and Pinnacle sources. See the Power level progression page for details.
Does Power level matter?#
Power level matters in high-difficulty activities (raids, Grandmaster content, Trials). In regular Crucible modes, Power is normalized, so your overall build matters more.
Social and Clans#
How do I join a team or clan?#
You can create or join a clan, and clan members share progress and rewards. A clan is a reliable way to find a steady team for raids and Trials.

Performance and Technical Issues#
What should I do if the frame rate is low?#
Lower your resolution, shadows, and effect settings to match your hardware. Make sure your drivers are up to date and close unnecessary background programs. Settings tuned to your GPU can noticeably improve frame rates.
Is online play stable?#
Online stability depends on your network environment. If you disconnect frequently, check your connection or move to a more stable network. Cross-platform play also brings platform network differences worth keeping in mind.
Content Unlocks#
Why can’t I see a certain campaign or activity?#
Some content is tied to expansions or seasons. If you haven’t purchased the corresponding content, or it has been temporarily removed in a version update, it won’t be accessible. Keep an eye on official announcements for content returns.
Do season pass ranks carry over?#
Season pass ranks can no longer be advanced after the season ends, but unlocked rewards can still be claimed. Every new season resets the pass.
Account and Security#
Can I share progress across platforms?#
Cross-platform play is supported, but whether progress and collections are shared between platform accounts follows the official rules. Linking to the same account system lets progress carry over.
What if my account was deleted by mistake?#
If you accidentally delete a character, contact official support as soon as possible; in some cases recovery may not be possible. Always double-check before deleting, and be careful with important characters and gear.
Other Common Questions#
- Is there chat and voice in game? In-game text chat is supported; voice usually relies on third-party tools.
- Do Strikes and raids need a team? Strikes support matchmaking, but raids almost always require a fixed fireteam.
- Can beginners jump straight into raids? You can experience them with a team, but it’s strongly recommended to learn the mechanics first.
