Two Kinds of Outfits#
Outfits in this game fall into two groups, and the distinction is simple: one kind carries actual effects, the other only changes appearance.
| Type | Scale | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Armor | Few | Unlocked through major collectibles or quest chains, with clear stats |
| Cosmetics | Many | Obtained through shops, missions, trophies, and crossovers, appearance only |
Because cosmetic pieces dominate, changing clothes never involves stats — unlike a role-playing game.
Maya Outfit#
To obtain it, solve all 16 Maya stelae and exchange the Maya stones.
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Requirement | Climb the stele, switch to Eagle Vision, and align the ground pattern with the surrounding landscape |
| Total | 16 stelae |
| Effect | Deflects metal projectiles |
| Role | The most practical armor for stealth and melee engagements |
Templar Armor#
To obtain it, collect all 5 Templar keys, guided by the contracts issued at the Assassin stronghold.
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Requirement | Obtain leads by completing several contracts assigned at the Assassin stronghold |
| Total | 5 keys |
| Effect | Improves resistance to attacks |
| Role | The sturdier set for head-on fights and naval boarding |
The unlock conditions of the two armor sets do not conflict, so advance both in parallel through the mid and late game to avoid missing a stronghold and having to backtrack.
Other Sources#
| Source | Typical content |
|---|---|
| Shops | Tailors and merchants in each city sell outfits for reales |
| Story and side quests | Some missions hand out outfits directly as rewards |
| Trophy rewards | Completion and 100% trophies come with decorative outfits |
| Collectible exchanges | Major collectibles (such as the two armor sets) come with exclusive outfits |
| Crossover content | Crossovers with other entries in the series unlock themed outfits |
| Edition bonuses | Bundles included with preorders and the deluxe edition |
Edition Bonuses#
| Source | Content |
|---|---|
| Preorder “Blackbeard’s Crimson Pack” | One exclusive Edward outfit, plus a sword and a pistol |
| Deluxe “Assassin Master Character Pack” | Equipment and cosmetic items |
| Deluxe “Assassin Master Sailing Pack” | Naval content tied to the Jackdaw |
| Crossover unlock | Through the Animus Hub crossover program, Edward can unlock a Japanese-style outfit |
None of these affect story progress, 100% synchronization, or the platinum trophy — they are optional bonuses.
What to Wear#
| Scenario | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Stealth missions | Favor armor with damage reduction or protection effects |
| Head-on combat | Higher-resistance armor saves trouble; looks can be swapped later |
| Sailing and exploration | Pure cosmetics are fine — naval combat relies on the Jackdaw, not clothes |
| Photos and showcasing | Use photo mode and mix freely |
The Two Collectible Lines Behind the Armor#
The two armor sets essentially belong to two different collectible routes, and the methods differ greatly.
| Route | Main axis | Difficulty | Suggested timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maya outfit | Puzzle-type collectibles | Stelae hide in jungles and ruins — finding them is harder than solving them | Start clearing region by region in the mid game, alongside the story |
| Templar armor | Stronghold contracts | Each stronghold requires several contracts before it yields a lead | Handle them in one batch once the story reaches the mid-to-late game |
Neither route requires finishing the story, and both can be completed early — but synchronize viewpoints first, otherwise the stelae and strongholds never show up on the map.
Common Misconceptions#
| Misconception | Notes |
|---|---|
| More clothes means stronger | Only the two armor sets carry stats; nearly everything else is cosmetic |
| Solving puzzles before synchronizing | Without synchronized viewpoints, stelae will not appear on the map |
| Doing only one line | The two routes do not conflict — splitting them into separate trips wastes more time |
