Pricing and Buying Guide#
Marvel Rivals is completely free to play: all 54 heroes unlock at no cost, and you can play every mode and map without spending a cent. The only real spending points are the seasonal battle pass and cosmetic skins. All prices on this page are current as of 2026-10-15; treat live store prices as authoritative.
Is Marvel Rivals Free to Play?#
Yes. The game launched worldwide on 2024-12-06 as a Free-to-Play title, free on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S from day one; the PS4 version arrived free on 2025-09-12. All heroes are free to use, and no “premium edition” exists.
| Platform | Current base price | Launch date |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam, Epic, official launcher) | Free | 2024-12-06 |
| PS5 / PS5 Pro | Free | 2024-12-06 |
| Xbox Series X|S | Free (Free-to-Play) | 2024-12-06 |
| PS4 | Free | 2025-09-12 |
| Switch 2 | Version confirmed to exist; price unverified | Unverified |
A few additional notes related to the “base game price”:
- What free covers: free heroes are the biggest difference between Marvel Rivals and most comparable free shooters. As of the S10 season (started 2026-09-11), all 54 heroes in the game are free, and each season’s new hero (such as Gorr the God Butcher in S10) is playable for free on release; money cannot buy any strength advantage.
- Game Pass, PS Plus, free weekends: since the base game itself is free, these concepts barely apply to Marvel Rivals. The publisher has never sold a paid edition, and this check found no record of subscription-service inclusion or free weekend events; if such events appear in the future, follow official announcements.
- DLC record: the Steam store lists 1 DLC; the PlayStation store also carries platform-exclusive “2026 Q2 Bundle” and “2026 Q3 Bundle” packs (the Q2 bundle has been delisted). Pricing and content lists for these items are unverified and do not change the fact that the base game is free.
How Do the In-Game Currencies Differ?#
The two currencies each cover their own ground: Lattice is the premium currency bought directly with real money; Units are the currency actually used to buy skins and can be earned through the battle pass and everyday play. Keeping this straight saves you real money.
| Currency | How to get it | Main use |
|---|---|---|
| Lattice | Purchased directly with real money | Buying the Luxury battle pass and other premium content |
| Units | Battle pass rewards and everyday play | Buying skins and bundles in the store |
The practical meaning of this dual-currency design: a skin’s “price tag” looks like real money, but part of it can be earned just by playing. Under the Season 1 standard, a fully completed Luxury battle pass returns 600 Lattice plus 600 Units, so long-term players can run a loop of “pay for the pass, earn currency back from rewards.”
How Much Does the Seasonal Battle Pass Cost?#
The Luxury-tier pass has been fixed at 990 Lattice (about 10 USD) since S1, and the S10 season (started 2026-09-11) keeps that price; the Upgraded Luxury tier is listed at 2100 Lattice. The earliest S0 mini-pass sold at 490 and 1050.
| Version | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Luxury Battle Pass (Luxury tier) | 990 Lattice | Fixed since S1, about 10 USD; still 990 in S10 |
| Upgraded Luxury Battle Pass (Upgraded Luxury tier) | 2100 Lattice | Listed at about 19.99 USD in S1; the S10 price has not been re-verified season by season, so treat the in-game listing as authoritative |
| S0 mini-pass (Chronovium) | 490 / 1050 Lattice | The first season was shorter, and both tiers were priced below the later standard |
The pass’s price structure has been extremely stable since launch, with no record of discounts. The pass’s track structure, Chronovium Points mechanics and “never expires” rule are fully broken down on the site’s Battle Pass page; this page covers price only.
Can You Still Buy a Missed Battle Pass?#
Yes, but it costs more. Every pass since S1 returns at a flat 1190 Lattice, 200 over the original price; the S0 Chronovium pass reruns at 590 Lattice. Each rerun window lasts about two weeks, and five passes have already completed a rerun.
| Rerun window | Pass | Rerun period | Rerun price |
|---|---|---|---|
| During S2 | Chronovium | 2025-05-15 to 05-29 | 590 Lattice |
| During S5 | Darkhold | 2025-11-27 to 12-11 | 1190 Lattice |
| During S7 | Flower of Krakoa | 2026-04-17 to 04-30 | 1190 Lattice |
| During S9 | Power of The Phoenix | 2026-07-16 to 07-30 | 1190 Lattice |
| During S10 | Fruit of Immortality | 2026-09-11 to 09-24 | 1190 Lattice |
Two patterns emerge from the table: first, rerun intervals are not fixed — anywhere from two or three months to over half a year — so you cannot predict when a given pass returns; second, the rerun window is a stable two weeks or so, and missing it means waiting for the next round. If you have your heart set on a particular pass, buying it in its own season is cheaper than gambling on a rerun — reruns are always 200 Lattice more.
How Much Do Skins Usually Cost?#
Skins are sold as bundles, typically 1400 to 2200 Units each; a single mainstream-tier skin runs about 1600 Units (roughly 15 to 20 USD as of February 2025). The store rotates every Thursday or Friday at 09:00 (UTC time), and most skins leave the store about four weeks after appearing.
The most recent store rotation as of 2026-10-15 (listed on 2026-10-09; skin names kept as official English originals):
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Blade Vampire King bundle | 1600 Units |
| Cyclops Phoenix Cyclops bundle | 1600 Units |
| Devil Dinosaur Skele-Saurus bundle | 2200 Units |
| Infinity Gauntlet bundle | 800 Units |
| Three-theme combo pack | 5400 Units |
Two more things about skin pricing need to be made clear:
- No discount history exists: third-party price trackers do not carry historical discount data for the Marvel Rivals in-game store, and circulating claims of a skin’s “all-time low” are unverifiable. This page makes no historical-low guesses; treat the live store price as authoritative.
- Rotation means delisting: most skins stay up for about four weeks and, unlike battle passes, have no published rerun price list. If you like a skin, buying it after checking your budget beats waiting on a discount that may never come.
What Is the Battle Pass Payback?#
Under the Season 1 return standard, a fully completed Luxury pass returns 600 Lattice plus 600 Units — recovering most of the 990-Lattice ticket price, which is exactly why the designers built the long-term spending loop into the pass.
Doing the math (using the S1 return standard):
- Spend 990 Lattice on the current Luxury battle pass;
- Complete it within the season, recovering 600 Lattice and 600 Units;
- Net cost is about 390 Lattice, plus 600 Units in hand;
- The recovered 600 Lattice is not enough to renew the next 990-Lattice pass outright, so you top up about 390 Lattice; the 600 Units can sit in your wallet toward a skin (short of the mainstream 1600 single-skin price).
In other words, for a player who completes the pass every season, the long-term cost approaches “half-price pass renewals plus skins saved up for free”; for someone who buys and never plays, 990 Lattice is a real expense. Whether it is worth it depends entirely on how much you play.
How Should You Buy Right Now?#
Conclusion first: zero-spend players can experience everything without paying; light spenders should buy the 990-Lattice Luxury pass each season; skin collectors should buy what they want when it is in rotation instead of waiting for a discount. Specific advice by player type follows.
| Player type | Recommended plan | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Pure free-to-play | Buy nothing | The game is free, all heroes are free, and every mode has no barrier |
| Light spender | Buy the 990-Lattice Luxury pass each season | Best value; completing it returns 600 Lattice, approaching half-price renewals long-term |
| Skin collector | Buy directly from the store, 800 to 2200 Units as needed | Skins have no discount history and leave the store after about four weeks; waiting for a discount is waiting for delisting |
| Missed a pass | Accept the 1190-Lattice rerun price, or wait for an uncertain next round | Reruns are always 200 Lattice more, in a window of about two weeks |
On the classic question of “wait for a discount or buy now,” Marvel Rivals’ answer is unusual: neither the base game nor the battle pass has any discount record, so waiting for an all-time low is pointless. Pass pricing has not moved since S1, and skins have no verifiable discount history at all. The only thing worth waiting for is the case where the skin you want simply is not in the current store — then you can only wait for rotation or an official rerun, on an unpredictable schedule.
One last calculation, for players agonizing over “which edition is worth it”: Marvel Rivals has no buy-to-play editions, so the “edition choice” exists only between the two pass tiers. Unless you are certain you want all the max-level pass rewards and want to progress fast, the 2100-Lattice Upgraded Luxury tier is a premium option most people do not need; the standard 990-Lattice tier is enough.
