Veteran Difficulty Control Tips#
- Sprint + slide: pressing crouch while sprinting performs a short slide — the fast way to cross open ground
- Hip fire beats aiming: in close-quarters fights, firing from the hip is faster than aiming down sights — on Veteran those 0.5 seconds are life or death
- Break the reload habit: don’t reload after every burst — if you have enough bullets, keep shooting; one mid-reload moment is enough for the enemy to kill you 10 times over
- Sprint with your pistol out: swapping to your pistol while sprinting gives the fastest movement speed

Veteran Difficulty Tips#
Veteran is the core challenge of MW2 and the most hotly debated topic among players. On a first attempt, play through on Regular difficulty to learn every mission, master enemy spawn patterns, and memorize cover placement before taking the plunge.
Core tactics:
- Don’t trade fire standing still — use cover and peek-shooting to whittle enemies down
- Deal with snipers and rocket troopers first, regular infantry second
- Flashbangs and smoke grenades are your best tools for pushing a mission forward — allocate them wisely
- Learn the “spawn and push” enemy mechanic — clear the current wave and move up immediately
- Make the most of checkpoints with the save/load trick to cut down the time cost of repeated attempts
Mindset advice: getting instantly killed on Veteran is part of daily life — don’t lose heart. Treat every cleared checkpoint as saved progress and break each mission into small goals to knock out one by one. Plenty of players say that beating Veteran feels better than anything else the game has to offer.
