Planet Zoo 2 Achievements and Milestones Unlock Guide#
First, the Limits of the Achievement Data#
Planet Zoo 2 is confirmed to support Steam achievements and trading cards, but the full achievement list and the unlock condition for each one were not published in the official materials verified for this guide. This page invents no achievement names or requirements. What it does is organize the confirmed milestone-style gameplay into a progression route — for the specifics, the Steam achievements page and the in-game list are the final word.
The Long-Term Milestone Route#
The game’s systems naturally form a long-term goal chain that runs from easy to deep. Push through it in this order, and achievements and milestones unlock almost as a side effect:
Stop 1: The Welfare Baseline#
| Goal | Check | Dedicated page |
|---|---|---|
| All seven welfare fields green | Food, water, space, social, enrichment, privacy, and health all up to standard | Animal Welfare Explained |
| Paths clear | Every habitat keeper can reach their exhibits | Staff Management |
| Zero losses across season changes | Climate control equipment prepped against the checklist | Four Seasons Guide |
Stop 2: Thriving#
Raise your first animals to Thriving status — all three prerequisites done: species researched, habitat naturalized, enrichment fully provided. Thriving brings longer lifespans and rising donations, and it’s the “graduation certificate” of this game’s welfare system. The route there is laid out in Animal Welfare and Needs System Explained.
Stop 3: One of Each Facility Type#
| Facility | Milestone | Dedicated page |
|---|---|---|
| Terrestrial habitat | A predator or large-species exhibit running stably | Habitat Building |
| Aviary | First walk-through aviary completed, first nesting and breeding | Aviary Guide |
| Aquarium | First large aquatic-species exhibit running stably | Aquarium Guide |
Stop 4: Closing the Conservation Loop#
- Unlock the Wildlife Reserve and take on your first global conservation project.
- Clear the pollutants and invasive plants, then build out the research network.
- Complete your first release — conservation points and sustainability reputation land at the same time.
- Finish field observations with the research vehicle.
The full walkthrough is in Wildlife Reserves and Release Guide.
Stop 5: Five-Star Reputation#
Push all four reputation pillars — animal welfare, sustainability, guest education, and guest experience — into the high range, and the park settles into five-star operation. The climbing roadmap is in Education, Conservation, and Five-Star Reputation.
Weekly Community Challenges: Global Milestones#
Community challenges are the liveliest milestone system in the game: players worldwide work toward a themed goal and unlock rewards together, refreshing every week. Two themes were live at launch:
| Theme | Focus | Preparation |
|---|---|---|
| “Grasslands” | Grassland species releases | Get grassland breeding lines and reserve projects set up early |
| “Bred ’n’ Water” | Aquatic species breeding | Scale up aquarium output and aquatic species research |
How to take part (details in Franchise Mode Online Guide):
- Join while connected online in Franchise Mode, and check the weekly theme before scheduling production.
- Challenge actions (releases, breeding) point the same way as normal park management — don’t wreck your park’s rhythm just to grind a challenge.
- Put “check this week’s challenge” on your weekly routine checklist (see Getting Started).
Photo Mode and WWF Photography#
Photo mode is a feature built in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature UK (WWF UK), and the developers also released an official animal photography tips tutorial. It doubles as “achievement-style gameplay” outside the achievement system:
- A goldmine of subjects: the natural behaviors that come out of the animal brain system — hunting, playing, herd interactions — make the best shutter moments. Learn the behavior first, then worry about framing (see Animal Brain Behavior System Explained).
- Scene selection: low-angle shots inside walk-through aviaries, big aquarium viewing windows, and reserve scenery at a release site (from the research vehicle’s perspective) are camera angles no other zoo game gives you.
- WWF photography competition: the officially announced competition with WWF has details “coming soon” — keep an eye on the official news page. It’s the community event most worth waiting for over the coming months.
Collectibles Checklist#
| Item | Content | Status |
|---|---|---|

| Trading cards | Steam trading card collection | Support confirmed |
| Soundtrack | You, Me & Sanctuary, The Music of Planet Zoo 2, composed by J.J. Ipsen, priced at $5.99 on Steam | On sale |
| Bonus content kit | Toucan food truck and signage, 3 animal donation boxes, tiger photo standee wall (sold separately after launch, roughly $2 to $3 — the two sources quote different prices) | On sale |
| Deluxe edition upgrade pack | 6 extra animal species and exclusive animal banners | Included with Deluxe Edition |
| Scenery themes | 4 brand-new themes + 5 returning themes from the first game | In-game building assets |
Park Planning Aimed at Achievements#
If you want unlocks to happen “while you’re playing anyway,” this is the most efficient way to build your park:
- Breadth and depth in species: keep terrestrial, avian, and aquatic species all at once, covering the goal lines of all three facility types.
- Keep the conservation line always on: run reserve projects and releases as routine, rather than banking them up for one concentrated push.
- Fill the education schedule: staff talk sessions covering peak visiting hours, so reputation and education goals advance in step.
- Never miss a weekly challenge: the weekly rhythm of Franchise Mode is itself a continuous source of achievement progress.
- Keep one sandbox save: pure building achievements and Workshop publishing both get done in sandbox mode (see Challenge Mode and Sandbox Mode Guide).
