Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Guide#

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is a turn-based strategy RPG developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It landed on September 17, 2026 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, making it the 18th mainline entry in the series and the first new entry built specifically for Switch 2. You play through the storylines of four warriors competing in a wish-granting tournament, pushing each route to its ending.

This guide is built on verified facts: release details follow official announcements, systems and mechanics follow the hands-on footage shown around launch and post-release media reviews, and names follow the game’s own text. Precision figures without a traceable source — exact growth-rate points, damage-formula coefficients, clear-time records — are deliberately left out rather than guessed.

The Setting and Premise#

The stage is Daguza, a prosperous empire that has endured for fifteen hundred years under the rule of gods. Its capital, Dagusion, hosts the Grand Sword Festival, a contest in which victory grants any wish. You play a being bound by fate to become the savior: sent back into the past, you live through the individual storylines of the four competing warriors and push all four routes to their endings, building up the fighting strength of the savior’s army.

With the game now out, the whole hub speaks in released-game terms: the old “rumored / possible” labeling system is gone, advice on mechanics and builds is given directly, and officially confirmed facts are kept separate from media and community playtest feedback.

The Four Protagonists#

Each route has its own lead, and internally each route carries an animal codename. Whoever you start with decides which slice of the story you see — and which special tools are available while you see it.

Protagonist Route codename Identity and motive Battlefield specialty
Cai Fox A youth from Libera Village who enters the tournament to free his imprisoned father Sets battlefields alight; tames animals into personal mounts
Dietrich Lion A swordsman eternally hunting a stronger opponent Slashes that displace him in an instant
Theodora Wolf A queen fighting to fulfill her homeland’s long-cherished wish Tears the terrain open; levies regiments from towns
Leda Hawk A vihuela player who has given everything to revenge Strengthens allies and disrupts enemies with the sound of her strings

The four routes are not reskins. Leads differ in the tools they can use during the exploration phase and in the recruitment conditions for some optional companions — that difference is the main pull for repeated playthroughs.

The Relationship to Fire Emblem: Three Houses#

Nintendo and multiple reviews place Fortune’s Weave in a different era of the same world as Fire Emblem: Three Houses — on the timeline, closer to a prequel. A trailer shows Sothis in aged form, and character design remains in Chinatsu Kurahana’s hands, though Koei Tecmo is not involved in development this time. If you are curious but never played Three Houses, relax: the four-playthrough structure and academy-schedule designs are not carried over, and this game is actually freer with your schedule.

The Four Systems to Relearn#

The genuinely new learning is concentrated in four things:

  1. There is no weapon triangle. Swords, axes, and lances no longer beat each other on a fixed chart; weapon types instead define “how this unit fights.” You choose weapons around a unit’s growth and playstyle, not by hunting advantage arrows.
  2. Blaze Arts cost HP, not durability. Powerful options carry a self-damage price, so deciding when you can afford to bleed — and who can afford to bleed — is the new core tradeoff.
  3. Fortuna’s Blessing rewinds an entire turn. On Normal it is unlimited; on Hard, every rewind consumes divine sand. On top of that sit one-shot, once-per-turn stat blessings.
  4. Time outside combat is a finite resource. Every four moves on the world map burn a quarter of a day, and exploring, recruiting, training, and dungeon expeditions all spend it — how to spend yours is your call.

Reader Pathways#

Depending on where you are, the hub’s sub-guides chain together like this:

  • Just picked the game up: start with the getting-started tips, then use the game-overview material to build the full picture.
  • Undecided about a starting route: go straight to the four-protagonist profiles and the story-and-route-structure material.
  • Bogged down by systems: the classes-and-reclassing, growth-and-mastery, weapons-and-combat-arts, and combat pages are the four to read.
  • Difficulty feels wrong: read the difficulty-and-modes material — the gap between the two difficulties is wider than anywhere else in the series.
  • Still deciding whether to buy: read the review roundup and the buying-and-editions material.

Closing Words#

This is the largest entry in the series’ history and also the least interested in punishing you — rewinding is nearly free, rebuilding your roster has no limits, and time management is generous. The cost is that the complexity has moved into the question of how you intend to spend that limited time. Each page of the hub breaks a system down until you can act on it, and wherever a point is disputed or the community has not settled, it says so plainly instead of deciding for you.
