Price and Buying Advice

Planet Zoo 2 costs 200 RMB (Standard) and 260 RMB (Deluxe) on the Chinese Steam region — both launch-day prices with no discounts yet; the Deluxe edition’s 6 extra animals are worth the surcharge for animal lovers, while subscription players will find no Game Pass or PS Plus inclusion for now. All prices in this article were verified on October 15, 2026; before buying, defer to the live store page.

What Each Platform Charges Right Now#

The game unlocked digitally on all platforms simultaneously on October 13, 2026. The prices below were measured through the official Steam store API and cross-checked on October 15, 2026:

Edition and platform Current price (verified 2026-10-15) Discounts and historical low
Steam CN region, Standard 200 RMB Launch price; no discount record since release, historical low equals the 200 RMB launch price
Steam CN region, Deluxe 260 RMB Launch price; no discount record, historical low equals the 260 RMB launch price
Steam US region, Standard 49.99 USD Launch price; the lowest recorded by SteamDB is 49.99 USD
Steam US region, Deluxe 64.99 USD (media reporting) Launch price; no discount record
PS5 / Xbox digital Not individually verified; defer to each store’s live price No launch promotion on record
PS5 / Xbox physical Releases October 20, 2026 —
Soundtrack (sold separately on Steam) 5.99 USD —

Three clarifications on sourcing:

  1. The CN region price is an API measurement: on October 15, 2026, the official Steam store API (appdetails) returned 200 RMB Standard and 260 RMB Deluxe for the CN region, both undiscounted launch prices. When pre-orders opened on June 8, the CN pricing was already 200 / 260 RMB — meaning the game has never once dropped in price from pre-order to launch.
  2. The US Deluxe figure of 64.99 USD comes from media reporting: the API check that day only covered the Standard price; the Deluxe price comes from multiple media reports and was not treated as API-verified — defer to the Steam store page before ordering.
  3. Console prices were not individually verified: the PlayStation store page confirms a “Standard + Deluxe” two-tier structure, but the exact tags were outside our verification scope; we will not speculate, so defer to the live PS Store and Xbox Store prices.

Standard vs. Deluxe: What Differs, and Is It Worth It?#

On PC (Steam / Epic / Microsoft Store) there are only two editions — no Gold or Ultimate re-tiering. The differences:

Item Standard Deluxe
Base game Yes Yes
Extra content None Deluxe upgrade pack: 6 extra animal species and exclusive animal signage
CN region price 200 RMB 260 RMB (a 60 RMB gap)
Best for Players who just want to run a zoo Players who want the fullest species collection

The Deluxe edition’s core selling point is those 6 extra animals. According to a wiki-based list compiled from the official Zoopedia, they include the Axolotl, Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead, and Longfin Batfish; this list has a single source, the Chinese name of the last species is unverified, and the accurate roster is whatever the in-game Zoopedia actually shows.

Whether the price gap is worth it depends on how attached you are to species completeness:

  • Worth the surcharge: players who treat ‘collecting every species’ as a long-term goal, or who came for the aquarium and aviary gameplay — the Deluxe animals include aquatic species, a genuine boost to your opening species pool.
  • Skip the surcharge: newcomers to the genre who have not yet exhausted the base game’s 130-plus species. The Standard edition is fully complete; the Deluxe animals are icing, not necessities, and missing them affects no system (see Animal Systems Overview and Species Index for species collection and zoo scale).
  • Wait and see: budget-sensitive players can buy Standard first and pick up the animal pack later if it ever gets sold separately — though as of the verification date the developer has announced no such plan, and we cannot promise one.

Can You Still Get the Pre-Order Bonus?#

The pre-order window attached a ‘Bonus Content Kit’ to any edition: the Toucan Treatery with its exclusive sign, 3 animal donation boxes, and a tiger photo stand-in. Key points:

  • After the pre-order window closed, the kit switched to sold separately — it does not vanish.
  • The two sources disagree on the standalone price (2.19 USD on the Steam page, 2.99 USD in some media); the magnitude is roughly 2 to 3 USD, so defer to the live store tag.
  • Everything in the kit is park decoration and operations props — no animals, no gameplay numbers — pure catnip for main-street landscaping players.
  • If you pre-ordered any edition before October 13, the kit is already in your game; do not buy it again.

Is There a Season Pass or Paid DLC?#

No season pass, and no paid DLC of any kind. As of October 15, 2026, the only add-ons on the Steam store are the soundtrack (5.99 USD) and the Bonus Content Kit mentioned above. On the official FAQ’s ‘will there be DLC’ question, the answer is that the team is fully focused on launch and has nothing to share about future content — two days after launch, there is no post-launch roadmap of any kind.

Two common misconceptions among first-game players need clearing up:

  1. The original’s season pass has nothing to do with this game. The original Planet Zoo’s season pass bundled 14 DLC packs — that was the original’s content plan. The sequel has no equivalent, the two are not interchangeable, and expecting ‘buying Deluxe equals buying the season pass’ will only mislead you.
  2. Original saves and DLC do not carry over. According to media reporting, because of the engine change and the rewritten animal behavior system, neither original saves nor purchased DLC transfer — buying this game means opening a brand-new zoo, and veterans’ original DLC carries no discount or inheritance value (see New Mechanics and New Species in the Sequel for the generational changes).

Will It Come to Game Pass or PS Plus?#

As of October 15, 2026, the game is on no subscription service, with no sign of joining one.

  • The official FAQ’s exact words: there is nothing to share about Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus — neither confirming nor denying, but it was not in the catalogs at launch.
  • Two media outlets independently confirmed that on launch day (October 13) the game was in neither the Game Pass nor the PS Plus catalog.
  • As of the verification date there is no free weekend, trial, or demo on record, and no official channel exists to try before buying.

One clarification on the cloud tier: the game is live on NVIDIA GeForce NOW, but that is a ‘buy it, then run it in the cloud’ model — a GeForce NOW membership does not include the game; you still need to own it on Steam or another storefront to stream it. For anyone hoping to play free via a subscription, the only low-cost route in the short term is waiting for a discount, not waiting for a subscription inclusion.

How to Buy on Console, and How It Differs from PC#

Console versions (PS5 / Xbox Series X|S) unlocked the same day as PC digital, October 13. Four things to know:

  1. Physical editions wait until October 20. Launch week is digital-only; collectors and resale shoppers should wait a week.
  2. The edition structure matches PC: the PlayStation store lists Standard and Deluxe (base game + Deluxe upgrade pack) with no console-exclusive editions.
  3. PS5 Pro is enhanced: the PlayStation store page marks the game as PS5 Pro Enhanced.
  4. Saves do not cross platforms: there is no cross-platform save transfer; only PC syncs saves across devices via Steam Cloud, while PS5 and Xbox saves stay on their own platforms. Players planning to double-dip cannot merge progress.

One more reminder: the console versions are single-player with optional online (franchise mode and other online features require a connection), but every online feature is optional — offline-only players are unaffected.

Buy Now or Wait for a Discount?#

The verdict first: the game is only two days old, has no discount history to consult, and ‘waiting for a discount’ currently has no anchor to act on. The reasoning:

  • The CN region’s historical low is the launch price of 200 / 260 RMB, and the US region’s SteamDB low since it was listed on May 28 is the launch price of 49.99 USD — not ‘was discounted, now back up’, but never discounted at all.
  • There is no seasonal sale record to check (the launch date missed the autumn sale window), the next price cut is unpredictable, and any claim that ‘it will be discounted in month X’ is pure speculation.
  • Launch reception is positive but not perfect: Metacritic 85 (PC and PS5), Steam ‘Mostly Positive’ at about 70% (as of October 15), PlayStation Store 4.47 / 5. It sits in the ‘buyable, but worth watching the patch cadence over the first two weeks’ tier.
  • On launch day the franchise mode suffered service issues under record concurrency; capacity was expanded and the 1.0.4 patch on October 14 fixed the stability problems. Players focusing on offline career and sandbox are unaffected (see the Franchise Mode Online Guide for mode differences).

That yields three courses of action:

  1. Why buy today: you clearly want this game, you are happy to join community challenges and the animal market during launch season, and a few extra patches do not bother you.
  2. Why wait: you want a lower entry price, or you would rather board once the officially listed ‘areas of continued improvement’ (animal locomotion, erroneous escapes, building tools, etc.) are fixed.
  3. The middle path: read FAQ and Zoo Operations Troubleshooting and review videos for each platform first, confirm the launch issues are within your tolerance, then decide.

The Best Buy for Each Type of Player#

Player type Recommended buy
New to management sims Steam CN Standard at 200 RMB; start simple, add the Deluxe animals later
Veterans of the original Standard is enough — original saves and DLC cannot transfer anyway; first check whether the new systems suit you
Animal collectors / aquarium fans Go Deluxe — the 6 extra animals include aquatic species with high value for your opening species pool
Budget-limited players Wishlist it and wait for the first discount, or first confirm your machine can run it (checklist below)
Console players Digital is playable now; physical on October 20; PS5 Pro owners can buy the enhanced version with confidence
Subscription / free-to-play hunters No options at present: not on Game Pass or PS Plus, and no free trial exists

Pre-Purchase Checklist#

Spend five minutes on this list before ordering and you will avoid most buyer’s remorse:

  1. Confirm your specs: minimum requires an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, an RTX 2060-class GPU, 16 GB RAM, and 40 GB of storage (SSD advised); for the full table see System Requirements Explained. Special reminder: animal and guest counts load mainly onto the CPU — weak CPUs drop frames in large zoos late game.
  2. Confirm your platform: PC (Steam / Epic / Microsoft Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S are the only official channels — no macOS version, no Switch version, and no last-gen consoles. Steam Deck carries Valve’s ‘Verified’ badge, so handheld players can buy with confidence; platform details in Performance Optimization and Setup Advice.
  3. Confirm your networking needs: franchise mode requires a connection, and the service had issues on launch day; offline-only players can pick career, challenge, and sandbox modes (see the Challenge Mode and Sandbox Mode Guide) and are immune to online service hiccups.
  4. Confirm your edition: Standard for running a zoo, Deluxe for the full species set; pre-order players should check the Bonus Content Kit arrived and not buy it twice.
  5. Defer to live store prices: all prices here were verified October 15, 2026; Steam and console tags can change at any time, so check the page as it stands when ordering.
