Ranked System#
Marvel Rivals’ Competitive mode uses nine rank tiers and a 100-point promotion system. This page lays out how it is structured.
Rank Structure#
There are nine major ranks, the first seven of which each contain three subdivisions (III lowest, I highest).
| Order | Rank | Subdivisions | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bronze | III, II, I | The entry tier, with the most players |
| 2 | Silver | III, II, I | Where mechanical and composition understanding start to form |
| 3 | Gold | III, II, I | Hero fundamentals and competitive habits take shape |
| 4 | Platinum | III, II, I | Positioning, counters and map knowledge start to matter |
| 5 | Diamond | III, II, I | Stable mechanics and a deeper grasp of the meta |
| 6 | Grandmaster | III, II, I | Consistently high-level play |
| 7 | Celestial | III, II, I | The strongest players in the matchmaking pool |
| 8 | Eternity | No subdivisions | Ordered by points instead |
| 9 | One Above All | No subdivisions | Top 500 of each region’s points leaderboard |
Bronze through Celestial each have three subdivisions — 21 steps in all — plus the two points-based ranks of Eternity and One Above All.
Ranked Points#
Each subdivision requires 100 points to promote, so a full rank (three subdivisions) is 300 points.
| Action | Point change |
|---|---|
| Victory | Gain points |
| Defeat | Lose points |
| Outstanding individual performance | Larger gains, smaller losses |
| Poor performance in a win | Smaller gains |
Within the same match, two teammates can gain or lose different amounts, because individual performance feeds into the adjustment.
Placement and Reset#
- Unlock requirement: account level 15
- Placement matches: entering Competitive for the first time requires 10 placement matches; a predicted rank is shown during them and the actual rank after completion
- Season soft reset: each full season does not wipe ranks to zero; instead it applies a soft reset based on your rank at the end of the previous season, typically dropping 6-7 subdivisions, followed by 10 placement matches to adjust
- Mid-season: the X.5 update partway through a season does not reset ranks
Chrono Shield#
Chrono Shield is the buffer that prevents rank loss.
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Effective ranks | Applies only in Bronze, Silver and Gold |
| Effect | While a shield charge is stored, one defeat will not drop your rank |
| Consumption | The shield shatters after absorbing one rank loss and must recharge |
| Platinum and above | No shield at all; every defeat deducts points at full value |
This is why climbing gets visibly harder above Platinum: starting there, the margin for error disappears.
High-Rank Rules#
| Rule | Notes |
|---|---|
| Hero bans | Grandmaster and above get a ban phase before the match, with both sides taking turns banning heroes |
| Point decay | Eternity and One Above All have inactivity decay; not playing for a long time deducts points |
| Party restrictions | Players whose ranks are too far apart cannot queue together; the higher the rank, the tighter the limit |
Party Restrictions#
Rank-gap limits tighten as you climb. Low-rank players have wide latitude to party with friends, but from Diamond up, the eligible rank range narrows sharply. This reduces the impact of low-rank teammates on match quality at high ranks.
Season Rewards#
At season’s end, rewards settle against the highest rank you reached during that season, typically including avatar frames, titles and exclusive cosmetics. The higher the rank, the more you can claim.
Rank Distribution Reference#
| Rank | Approximate share |
|---|---|
| Bronze | The most populous tier |
| Silver to Platinum | Where most players sit |
| Diamond and above | The share narrows quickly |
| Eternity and One Above All | A tiny fraction; One Above All is the regional top 500 |
Rank distribution shifts with seasons and patches; the above is for reference only.
