Weapon Guide: LMGs and Snipers#
This page covers the Support’s LMG line and the Recon’s sniper line. Same data caveat as before: there is no official public stat table, so this page uses role descriptions — in-game testing is the final word.
Light Machine Guns (LMG)#
Role and selection logic#
The LMG is the Support’s signature weapon, and its tactical value is sustained suppression from belt capacity:
- Big magazine = fewer reload windows = the pillar of objective defense
- Suppression fire forces the enemy into cover, creating windows for teammates to push
- The cost is mobility and target-switching speed; you are fragile when rushed
Confirmed specific weapons#
| Weapon | Category | Source | Role description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z84M | Belt-fed LMG | Season 5 launch weapon | 100-round capacity, plenty of attachment options |
Two official selling points of the Z84M directly define how it is used: 100-round capacity means you barely need to think about reload timing — a full objective fight may not even empty the belt; plenty of attachment options make it the LMG best suited to “reshaping its character” with attachment points — you can build it toward mobility or toward sustained suppression.
LMG discipline#
- Braced positions first: wall-bracing plus the Support’s deployable cover turns an LMG into a fixed firepower point
- Own the lane, not the kill: your goal is to make “that corridor” unwalkable, not to chase solo kills
- Reload behind cover: even with 100 rounds, top off between firefights
- Have an anti-rush plan: LMGs are slow to switch targets; when rushed, fall back into cover instead of swinging your muzzle in place
Bolt-Action Snipers and DMRs#
Role and selection logic#
The Recon’s long-range line comes in two feels:
| Type | Rhythm | Best scenario |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt-action sniper | One shot, one cycle, high per-shot threat | Controlling long sightlines, sealing open ground |
| DMR | Semi-automatic follow-up shots | Multiple mid-to-long-range targets, more forgiveness |
Confirmed specific weapons#
| Weapon | Category | Source | Role description |
|---|---|---|---|
| M2010 ESR | Sniper rifle | Included in the Phantom Edition weapon packs (the “Drop Shadow” M2010 ESR pack) | One of the flagship launch sniper models |
| ELR-40 | Bolt-action sniper rifle | Season 5 launch weapon | Excellent long-range sweet spot; single-fire mode moves the sweet spot closer |
The ELR-40’s official description deserves a close read: it has a long-range “sweet spot” mechanic, and single-fire mode moves that sweet spot closer — a bolt sniper whose engagement feel changes with the fire-mode switch. Use the default mode at long range to maximize sweet-spot benefits, and switch to single-fire mode to stay dangerous at closer ranges.
The sniper’s three-layer value#
- Kills: direct output, but only a third of a Recon’s value
- Lane denial: your presence makes one sightline unwalkable — strategically worth more than the kill count
- Intel and designation: drone mapping plus laser target designation are the sniper’s real leverage for the team
Sniper attachment logic#
| Slot | Priority | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Optic | Highest | Magnification choice defines your engagement radius |
| Muzzle/barrel | High | Affects sway and firing signature |
| Stock/grip | Medium | Braced stability |
| Magazine | Low | Capacity is not the main concern on bolt weapons |
How the Two Lines Divide the Battlefield#
| Scenario | LMG (Support) | Sniper (Recon) |
|---|---|---|
| Objective defense | Seal doorways and staircases | Control open outer sightlines |
| Push cover | Suppress enemy firing positions | Pick off head-glitchers and finish kills |
| Random encounters | Win trades with magazine depth | One decisive shot or a quick fall-back |
| Against vehicles | Helpless — step aside | M2010/ELR-40 threaten exposed observers, but anti-armor belongs to engineers |
Season 5’s Impact on the Long-Range Line#
Season 5 (launched October 13, 2026) brought two direct changes to the long-range fire ecosystem:
- The ELR-40 arrives: the bolt-sniper line gains a rifle with a “tunable sweet spot”, refining the Recon’s gun choices
- Scout helicopter nerf: 70mm FFAR rocket splash damage down 30%, no more one-shotting infantry at common engagement distances — infantry survivability in the open improves, but Recon players should note the rhythm change after the rocket pod cooldown grew from 28 to 38 seconds (see AA Vehicles and Season Balance for details)
Loadout Pairing Suggestions#
| Player type | Primary | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Objective-defense Support | Z84M | 100 rounds plus many attachments, hold one spot without reloading |
| Team-suppression Support | Belt-fed LMG + deployable cover | The firing position is the cover, the cover is the firing position |
| Long-sightline Recon | M2010 ESR / ELR-40 in long-range mode | Steady long-range control |
| Roaming Recon | ELR-40 in single-fire mode + C4 | Still has a fight at closer range, with C4 as the last resort |
FAQ#
- Z84M or another LMG? The 100-round capacity and attachment depth are its differentiators; if you want nimbler handling, take an older LMG with a smaller capacity and buy sustain with attachments.
- What does the ELR-40’s single-fire mode mean? Officially: it moves the optimal sweet spot from long range to closer distances. One gun, two engagement logics — switch per match.
- Can sniper rifles hurt vehicles? Anti-armor is the engineer’s job; the sniper’s team value is intel and lane denial.
