Exploration & Collectibles#
The levels of 007 First Light are sandbox-style: every stage is small, yet hides multi-layered spaces, multiple routes, and a handful of interactive mechanisms. Exploration here is not sightseeing — it is swapping solutions: every extra route you find often means one more option that avoids a firefight.
1. The Three Yields of Exploration#
| Yield | Content | Value |
|---|---|---|
| New routes | Vents, side doors, upper structures, secret entrances | Bypass guards and push the objective directly |
| Collectibles | Playing cards, intel, mementos, postcards, relics | Advance achievements and background storytelling |
| Intel and leads | Overheard conversations, environmental clues | Open up new objectives and dialogue options |
2. The Q Lens Scan Method#
The Q Lens is the core exploration tool of this game; it consumes no resources and sees through walls. The correct way to use it is as the first step through every door:
- Approach a new area and pause;
- Raise the Q Lens and sweep for enemies, interactables, pick-up items, and clues;
- Note the viable routes and the things to grab;
- Then decide what to pick up on the way and what to do along the path.
Build the habit: turn “scan the room first” into a reflex, and your exploration efficiency will double.
3. Hidden Routes and Secret Entrances#
The levels generally follow a “more than one front door” design. Common hidden entrances include:
| Type | Form |
|---|---|
| High entry | Rooftops, scaffolding, upper platforms, skylights |
| Disguised entry | Staff corridors, backstage, service doors |
| Blending into events | Naturally entering through an event flow (dinners, gatherings) |
| Secret entrances | Opened by specific actions (vaulting, pipe climbing, metal doors) |
Take London’s “Uninvited Guest” as an example: community guides have charted several named routes roughly corresponding to four approaches — enter from above, disguise as staff, blend into the event, or go in loud. That is the “menu” the sandbox design hands you.
4. Types of Explorable Areas#
| Area Type | Exploration Focus |
|---|---|
| Frozen wilderness (Iceland) | Terrain cover, paths through cliffs and wreckage |
| Training facility (Malta) | Systematic tutorials, the Q Lab, and supplies |
| Social venues (nightclub / dinner / resort) | Crowds, backstage, side halls, upstairs spaces |
| Large sandbox (Slovakia) | Floor structure, multiple entrances, vehicle chase |
| Underground black market (Mauritania) | Crowd cover, pickpocketing timing, dark alleys |
| Corporate / research facility | Restricted-area tiers, lockpicking and vents |
| Finale (MI6) | Defensive routes and usable structures |
5. Exploration and Collecting#
Most of the game’s 92 collectibles are hidden where “the normal route doesn’t go”:
- Playing cards: lounges, bars, tabletops;
- Intel: desks, filing cabinets, command rooms;
- Mementos: characters’ rooms and display areas;
- Postcards: reception desks, windowsills, luggage;
- Relics: restricted areas and locked spots.
Gear tip: collectibles sealed behind padlocks and vents require the Laser Strap. When you spot something “out of reach”, first check whether you have it equipped.
6. Backtracking with Chapter Select#
No collectible is permanently missable. After completion, use chapter select to return to any chapter fully equipped and re-explore — far more efficient than agonizing over it during the first run. Collectible progress carries across saves, so “finish the story first, collect later” is a perfectly viable route.
7. Pacing Suggestions#
| Stage | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| First entry to a level | Focus on pushing the objective; scan and grab along the way |
| After clearing one area | Re-scan with the Q Lens to confirm no side paths were missed |
| After completion | Sweep collectibles level by level against a location checklist |
| To practice routes | Use TacSim or chapter select to replay repeatedly |
8. Common Mistakes#
- Only taking the main path: in sandbox games, collectibles often sit where “you’re not supposed to go”;
- Skipping the Q Lens scan: you pointlessly miss a mass of interactables and clues;
- Forcing full collection on the first run: better to finish the story and sweep everything fully equipped in one pass;
- Ignoring optional objectives: secondary objectives are often tied to challenges and collectibles.
9. The Deeper Value of Exploration#
Exploration in this game is not just “grabbing things”. Every side path and every overheard conversation you find makes the later infiltrations easier and the story more complete. For Bond, “look first, think second, act last” is never wasted time — it simply pays the cost in advance.
10. Why Exploration Is Worth the Time#
The main story is not long (about 15-20 hours), but it is dense: the same stage played through the front door and through the side door are two completely different experiences. The extra time pays you back in three forms — fewer firefights, fuller collections, and a more complete story. For a game designed around “preparation over reaction”, exploration is not extra content; it is the gameplay itself.
11. Exploration Self-Check List#
- Scan with the Q Lens before entering any new area;
- Note “out of reach” spots (they mostly need the Laser Strap);
- Check for second entrances — high routes, side doors, backstage;
- Pick up route-related challenges along the way;
- After completion, re-sweep each location against a checklist.
