Main Story Walkthrough#
This page organizes progression nodes from the officially revealed story and region structure. In early access, the story ends on a cliffhanger — the roadmap lists “next chapter story” as future content with no date given. So this page doesn’t write an “ending”: one doesn’t exist yet.
I. The Start: Sleep Bay 3#
| Element | Content |
|---|---|
| Who you are | A qualified Surveyor |
| When | 25+ years after the Skimmer’s crash |
| State | Printed by NoA |
| Expectation | NoA predicts you’ll die quickly from environmental stress |
NoA’s advice is to modify yourself with nearby Alterra technology. You find something else: the core of an Angel Comb.
II. The First Turn: Gene Mutation#
| Step | Result |
|---|---|
| Interact with the Angel Comb core | You gain a gene mutation |
| Effect | You can survive Proteus’s environmental pressure |
| Event | Ride the life pod to the surface; send a distress signal |
| What you see | The World Tree spanning the entire horizon |
Up to here is the opening chapter. After that, open-ended survival progression begins.
III. Survival Phase: Getting a Foothold#
No forced order here, but there’s an implied correct path.
| Milestone | Criterion |
|---|---|
| Scanner loop established | Wreckage recipes and creature scans both running |
| First base | With storage (storage that doesn’t count toward crafting from 1.1), bio-bed |
| Food and water stable | No more hand-to-mouth pickups |
| First biological mod | You’ve touched the mod system (6 total after 1.1) |
| The Tadpole | Activity radius expands significantly |
For this stretch, center your efforts on the Coral Gardens region: shallows, dolerite spires, the lead zone, the plateau, dead-flesh hills, and two runways share one region, with depth bands rising in steps — ideal for drilling the loop by gradient.
IV. Mid-Game: Opening the Karakoram#
The Karakoram ruins lie east of the Coral Gardens (exact coordinates defer to the in-game compass) — the main arena of the mid-to-late game.
| Sub-goal | Notes |
|---|---|
| Heat adaptation | The ticket to high-temperature zones; from the infected Angel Comb in the Blighted Coral region (position in-game authoritative) |
| Sonic Resonator | Your main tool for control and escape; 10-second stun window |
| Bio-scanner | Advances biological mod passive slots |
| Deep dive prep | Entry thresholds for deeper zones defer to the game; confirm gear and adaptations before departure |
The Karakoram comprises three sub-regions: the Metal Farm (0-500m, patrolled by Collector Leviathans), the Overgrown Ruins (0-600m), and Root Canyon (364-750m). The verified point of interest Observatory — which region it sits in defers to the game.
V. Late Game: The Depths and the Boundary#
| Target | Status |
|---|---|
| Root Canyon (364-750m) | One of the deepest recorded reachable zones |
| Metal Farm | A mining area guarded by Collector Leviathans |
| The Void’s Chelicerate-class leviathans | World boundary (0-3100m); not a resource zone |
| World Tree / Xanadu | Named, currently unreachable |
The World Tree and the Great Trench are both potential future biomes — the names have officially appeared, but the content isn’t open. Roadmap items beyond this (including the next chapter’s story) have no dates from the developer.
VI. The Whole Order in One Table#
| Step | Stage | Key action |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Awakening | Touch the Angel Comb; surface in the life pod |
| 2 | Footing | Build in the shallows; establish the scanner loop |
| 3 | Expansion | The Tadpole; biological mods |
| 4 | Unlocking | Heat adaptation; control tools |
| 5 | Descent | Karakoram’s three zones (Metal Farm, Overgrown Ruins, Root Canyon) |
| 6 | Bottoming out | Root Canyon, Metal Farm |
| 7 | To be continued | World Tree and Xanadu (not yet open; no date) |
VII. Advice That Won’t Expire#
- Don’t skip steps: every stage builds on the previous stage’s equipment.
- Get the adaptation before the door: threshold problems aren’t solvable by skill.
- Scan wreckage as you go: wreckage recipes underpin all later progress.
- Don’t rush to the boundary: the Void and the World Tree are directions right now, not content.
VIII. When Stuck, Check Three Things#
When progression stalls, audit these first — most “stuck” states resolve here:
| Check | If the answer is “no” |
|---|---|
| Do you have all recipes the target zone needs | Go back and scan more wreckage |
| Do you have the adaptation gating that zone | Go earn it first |
| Can vehicle and oxygen cover the round trip | Build a forward base or upgrade gear |
Criterion: this game’s progress gates are almost always equipment and adaptations, never dexterity. When stuck, suspect the gate first.
