Maps Explained#

Maps Explained

Marvel Rivals draws its maps from iconic stages of the Marvel universe: Wakanda’s golden city, the symbiote homeworld of Klyntar, a New York under eternal night, the realm of Yggsgard, the futuristic Tokyo 2099, and Hydra’s secret base. The hallmark of the game’s maps is extensive destructible environments and interactive objects, paired with pronounced vertical design, so attack and defense routes keep shifting as a match unfolds.

One important note: this is a live-service game, and the map list keeps changing with each season — new maps arrive with seasons, and individual maps may also be pulled from rotation. Data on this page is current as of S7.0 in 2026; the maps actually available follow the game.

Map Count Growth#

Date Total Unique Maps Notes
Launch, December 6, 2024 10 8 standard match maps, plus 2 practice and arcade maps
S5.0 19 Steadily expanded by season updates
S7.0 25 As of 2026; defer to the game

Standard match maps are divided by objective into three types — Convergence, Convoy, and Domination; the mode mechanics are detailed on the Game Modes Explained page, which refers to the Convergence mode by that name. Beyond those, there are arcade and practice-only special maps, plus exclusive maps for limited-time events.

Convergence Maps#

Convergence first contests an objective, then shifts to escorting once it is captured — one map, two rhythm changes. The longer the objective phase drags on and the more resources it burns, the less margin for error the escort phase leaves, so this map type is really a test of transitioning between two tempos.

Map Lore Region Added
Hall of Djalia Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda Launch (2024-12-06)
Symbiotic Surface Klyntar Launch (2024-12-06)
Shin-Shibuya Tokyo 2099 Launch (2024-12-06)
Central Park Empire of Eternal Night S1.5
Tianxin K’un-Lun Later season
Lower Manhattan — 2026-04

Hall of Djalia: a city battlefield in the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, with vibranium technology and continental African architectural language running throughout. The objective phase unfolds across blocks and plazas, and once escort begins the route extends into the building clusters — shortcuts opened by blown-out walls often decide whether the vehicle advances at all.

Symbiotic Surface: the surface of Klyntar, the symbiote homeworld; organic terrain and a dark palette give it the strongest visual identity. The low-visibility environment favors melee and area damage, and ranged heroes need to actively claim high ground to compensate for vision.

Shin-Shibuya: a cyberpunk block in Tokyo 2099, where neon signage and multi-level buildings form a dense vertical structure. Highly mobile heroes can hop between rooftops, and the new sightlines exposed when signs get shot down keep reshaping duels.

Central Park: an Empire of Eternal Night map added with S1.5, pulling New York’s Central Park into the eternal-night event. Vegetation and combat debris interleave into plenty of visual cover, and the tempo shift from objective to escort feels especially sharp here.

Tianxin: a Chinese-style map in the K’un-Lun region; its exact release date follows the game. The environment carries pronounced mountain elevation changes, making layered positioning in the objective phase more important than on flat maps.

Lower Manhattan: a Convergence map added in April 2026 and the newest member of the New York theme. As a new map, its rotation and details follow in-game announcements.

Convoy Maps#

Convoy has one side pushing the vehicle and the other intercepting, and every corner and choke on the route is a natural firefight point. On this map type, knockback and forced-displacement abilities are worth more than in any other mode.

Map Lore Region Added
Spider-Islands Tokyo 2099 Launch (2024-12-06)
Yggdrasill Path Yggsgard Launch (2024-12-06)
Midtown Empire of Eternal Night S1
Arakko Hellfire Gala S2.5
Museum of Contemplation — 2026-01
Thebes — 2026-07

Spider-Islands: an archipelago setting in Tokyo 2099 with web elements everywhere. The escort route runs close to the edge in many spots, giving the defense extra value from knockback, while attackers must actively position away from cliffs.

Yggdrasill Path: an escort route along the World Tree in Yggsgard; the godly realm is open with few turns. Long-range heroes carry high suppression value, and the escorting side needs spread positioning to offset area damage.

Midtown: an Empire of Eternal Night map added in S1, a Manhattan neighborhood under eternal night. The buildings flanking the street let flank routes and the main road coexist, and the pushing side must watch both the front and rear of the vehicle.

Arakko: a Hellfire Gala map added in S2.5, a mutant city on Mars. The open stretches of red desert favor long-range heroes, while building interiors reward close-quarters fights instead.

Museum of Contemplation: a Convoy map added in January 2026, where the art-gallery theme creates a rhythm of alternating indoor and outdoor scenes; specific site details follow the game.

Thebes: a Convoy map added in July 2026 and one of the newer maps. The match environment on new maps has not settled yet, so learn the routes in Quick Play before heading into Competitive.

Domination Maps#

Domination is pure objective control, decided by who loses fewer players and who holds their positions more firmly. The areas around objectives are generally open, and positioning layers plus the timing of ability trades determine how the control meter moves.

Map Lore Region Added
Royal Palace Yggsgard Launch (2024-12-06)
Hell’s Heaven Hydra Charteris Base Launch (2024-12-06)
Birnin T’Challa Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda Launch (2024-12-06)
Krakoa Hellfire Gala S2
Celestial Wreckage — S3

Royal Palace: the royal palace of Yggsgard, whose multi-level halls and colonnades form the Domination objective. Try to keep your eliminations from happening inside the objective — the time spent walking back from respawn is the enemy’s control meter.

Hell’s Heaven: a battlefield inside the Hydra Charteris Base, where the military-facility style keeps the passages around the objective tight; control and area-damage abilities pay off handsomely.

Birnin T’Challa: an urban battlefield in Wakanda’s capital, with skyscrapers and plazas forming a multi-layered golden city. Pressuring the objective from high ground is a common tactic — and after losing a player, stop feeding into the point.

Krakoa: a Hellfire Gala map added in S2, the mutants’ living island. Organically grown architecture provides irregular cover and pathways, vision is frequently blocked, and the mind games of ambush and counter-ambush run dense.

Celestial Wreckage: a Domination map added in S3, themed on a colossal corpse-like structure. Its alien scale and elevation changes stand out, and area damage is most efficient where corridors narrow.

Arcade and Special Maps#

Map Lore Region Use Added
Ninomaru Tokyo 2099 Conquest Launch (2024-12-06)
Sanctum Sanctorum Empire of Eternal Night Doom Match S1
Ultron Axis Headquarters — Doom Match Later season
Practice Range Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda Practice only Launch (2024-12-06)
  • Ninomaru: an arcade map set in Tokyo 2099 for the Conquest mode, with a looser pace than standard matches — handy for casually practicing heroes.
  • Sanctum Sanctorum: added in S1, Doctor Strange’s residence and now a Doom Match map. The indoor multi-level structure makes engagements extremely dense.
  • Ultron Axis Headquarters: another Doom Match map, themed on Ultron’s stronghold; its release date follows the game.
  • Practice Range: located in Wakanda for learning hero abilities and combos, with no effect on any match data.

In addition, Void Throne (Resource Rumble) launched with a season and was later pulled from rotation to await a rework — the map list does not only grow.

Event-Limited Maps#

Limited-time events bring exclusive or modified maps that open only during the event:

  • Jeff’s Winter Splash: the event map “Jeffland”, modified from Bifrost Garden
  • Lion Dance Showdown: uses “World Arena”
  • Ultron Tactics: uses “Digital Duel Grounds”
  • Marvel Zombies: a limited-time mode using a modified Midtown
  • Blood Hunt: uses “Blood-Night New York”

Event map availability and rerun schedules follow the announcements of each event; missing the window usually means no way back in.

Shared Map Mechanics#

  • Destructible environments: most walls, cover, and objects can be shot through, and the new routes exposed keep reshaping attack and defense — the signature feature of this game’s maps
  • Interactive objects: maps scatter objects that interact with hero abilities; using them well can create outnumbered-fight opportunities in your favor
  • Vertical space: multi-level structures are everywhere, and holding high ground usually means better sightlines and a safer position to deal damage
  • Mode restrictions: some maps only appear in specific modes or arcade gameplay and never enter the standard map pool
  • Dynamic rotation: new maps arrive with seasons, and individual maps may be pulled pending rework — Void Throne is the precedent

FAQ#

Question Answer
How many maps are there now 25 unique maps as of S7.0 in 2026, with more added each season; defer to the game
Can I pick the map Quick Play and Competitive match randomly from the current map pool; custom lobbies can specify a map
Do old maps disappear Yes, individual maps get pulled from rotation to await reworks — Void Throne, for example
How often does a new map arrive Recent seasons have mostly kept a pace of one new map per season or half-season
Can event maps be played normally No, event maps open only during their event

The map pool keeps changing, and the latest changes can be confirmed on the Version Updates page. For any individual player, map familiarity is always the highest-return homework — heroes can be swapped on the fly, but a gap in map knowledge gets cashed in every single match.
