Engineer Operators Guide#
The Engineer class’s shared perk is item specialist, with built-in torch cutting and repair capability — the expert at holding positions, locking down areas, and destroying equipment. The game currently lists five Engineers: Sineva, Shepherd, Uluru, Byte, and Liquid Nitrogen. Byte is the first operator from the Ahsarah faction (launched with the S7 “Ahsarah” season). All ability descriptions on this page come from the official operators page.
Sineva (Alexei Petrov)#
| Ability | Official effect | Combat notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rear Protection | Adds a blast shield to your back | Covers the blind spot behind you |
| Blast Protection Kit | Heavy full-body shield; the viewport can be destroyed | Extreme defense, but the viewport is the weak point |
| Multipurpose Grapple Gun | Hooks back enemies / teammates / gear crates | Three uses: yank allies to safety, steal gear crates, break point-blank pressure |
| Razor Wire Grenade | Deploys razor wire | Corridor denial |
Sineva’s theme is “absolute defense”. The Blast Protection Kit is the heaviest personal protection in the game, and paired with Rear Protection you carry a shield front and back. Of the grapple gun’s three uses — hooking back enemies, teammates, or gear crates — rescuing teammates and stealing crates are mechanics unique to him in Operations. Note that the viewport can be destroyed: when trading fire behind the shield, do not leave your face window on an enemy sniper line for long.
Shepherd (Terry Musa)#
| Ability | Official effect | Combat notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sonic Suppression | 30-meter radius pressure, reduces fire rate, can destroy resonant sonic devices | Wide-area soft control + anti-sonic-device tool |
| Sonic Trap | Triggers at 4 meters | Deployment at stairwells and behind doors |
| Enhanced Frag Grenade | Buffed fragmentation | Clearing cover on point breaks |
| Vibration Dampening | Dampens vibrations on self | Your capital in sonic mirror matches |
Shepherd is the area-pressure specialist. A 30-meter-radius Sonic Suppression in building fights is close to “making everyone in a room tremble”; his Sonic Trap triggers at 4 meters and is built to punish flanks and rushes. Notably, his suppression can destroy resonant sonic devices — in mirror matches it counters the sonic kit of fellow sonic operators, a rare “like-beats-like” design.
Uluru (David Ferrell)#
| Ability | Official effect | Combat notes |
|---|---|---|
| Loitering Munition | Image-guided, scatters into 4 submunitions | Long-range precision strikes and finishing blows |
| Quick-Set Barricade | Builds cover on the spot | Instant protection in coverless open terrain |
| Compound Incendiary | Can burn down quick-set barricades | The game-breaker against same-class cover |
| Battle-Hardened | Survival buff | Extra forgiveness |
Uluru is the embodiment of “field fortification engineering”: the Quick-Set Barricade conjures cover out of thin air for the squad, while the Compound Incendiary both cracks positions and burns down enemy quick-set barricades — the second same-class counter line. The loitering munition’s image guidance plus 4 submunitions give him standalone kill potential at mid-to-long range, making him one of the few proactive damage dealers in the Engineer slot.
Byte (Rashid Rahal)#
| Ability | Official effect | Combat notes |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Smoke Mine | Smart-triggered smoke mine | Area early warning and denial |
| Sentinel Hive | Releases three self-destructing sentinel spiders with corrosion damage | Minefield-style offense and defense, stacking corrosion damage |
| Defense Specialist | Defensive buff | The fortification identity |
| Hunting Spider | Net traps and restrains enemies, blocks ADS | Single-target hard CC |
Byte launched with the S7 “Ahsarah” season (November 2025) as the first Ahsarah-faction operator — in lore he comes from the land tugged back and forth by Havoc and the Guard, and in gameplay he is a pure defensive Engineer. The sentinel spiders’ self-destruct corrosion and the hunting spider’s net restraint (ADS block) form a one-close, one-far twin-spider system that is especially nasty on indoor maps like Tide Prison.
Liquid Nitrogen (Gabriel Muril)#
| Ability | Official effect | Combat notes |
|---|---|---|
| Frost Reaction | Cryo slow up to full freeze, lowers fracture resistance | Hard-CC slowdown |
| Burst Cryo Grenades | 6-round burst of cryo grenades | Sustained cryo coverage |
| Dewar Cold Canister | Deploys a cryo zone, can freeze doors | Door sealing and area denial |
| Heat-Tracking Concussion | Heat-tracking concussion | Tracking control in cryo environments |
Liquid Nitrogen is a cryo-control operator whose abilities and background are already on the official operators page. His whole kit is built around “freezing”: slows, full freeze, frozen doors, lowered fracture resistance — door freezing (fusing a door shut) is a one-of-a-kind denial tool in breach fights. His launch season did not surface in this round of research, so no inference is made on this page.

Engineer Combat Details#
- Torch cutting and repair is the class’s baseline skill: the Engineer’s item-specialist identity goes beyond abilities — the torch cuts and repairs doors and devices, which makes the Engineer slot a hard requirement for contract execution (like the dam drill line) and route denial.
- Sineva’s shield is not invincible: the Blast Protection Kit’s viewport can be destroyed — do not plant your feet when trading fire behind the shield, and reposition the moment the viewport is hit; Rear Protection passively covers your back, so check its state before hugging walls.
- Shepherd’s 30 meters and 4 meters: Sonic Suppression is a 30-meter-radius wide pressure (reduced fire rate), while the Sonic Trap triggers at 4 meters — the two numbers map to “team-fight ult” and “point-holding minefield” scenarios respectively.
- Uluru’s barricade counter chain: quick-set barricades can be burned down by the Compound Incendiary — watch for enemy Engineers when you place your own cover, and burn theirs the instant it appears; in Engineer mirror matches, whoever burns cover first wins half the fight.
- Byte’s spider division of labor: the Sentinel Hive’s spiders self-destruct with stacking corrosion damage (armor-cracking), while the Hunting Spider’s net restrains and blocks ADS (control) — net first to pin, then corrode with the explosion; that is the correct two-spider combo.
- Liquid Nitrogen’s door freeze: the Dewar Cold Canister can freeze doors — freeze a door on your retreat route, and the pursuers’ door-opening time becomes your extraction window.
Engineer Value by Map#
| Map | Highest-value Engineer skill |
|---|---|
| Zero Dam (holding the Administration Building through extraction) | Shepherd’s Sonic Trap + Sineva’s Rear Protection |
| Longbow Valley 2.0 (open water) | Uluru’s Quick-Set Barricade |
| Brakkish (helicopter and open ground) | Uluru’s Quick-Set Barricade / repair role |
| Space Base (countering automated vehicles) | Shepherd’s Sonic Suppression to shut down the vehicles |
| Tide Prison (corridor denial) | Byte’s twin spiders + Shepherd’s traps |
| AZ3 (radiation-zone mobility) | Sineva’s full-body shield to tank damage and push |
Squad and Counterplay Suggestions#
- Operations building-defense raids: a double-Engineer lineup of Shepherd (sonic traps) + Byte (spiders) can turn one building into a meat grinder.
- Warfare attack/defense: Uluru’s Quick-Set Barricade is a hard requirement for attackers crossing open ground (like the Sector D climb).
- Counterplay: every Engineer shield and barricade can be dismantled on purpose — the Blast Protection Kit’s viewport breaks, quick-set barricades burn to incendiaries, sonic devices are destroyed by Shepherd’s suppression. Engineer mirror matches are, at their core, “whose engineering gets deleted first”.
The Engineer slot is the most map-comprehension-hungry of the four classes: the same kit is a vault guardian inside the Administration Building and a few holes in the wilderness. Choosing Engineer means choosing “the kind of victory that runs on brains”.
One beginner tip to close: start your Engineer journey with Shepherd — a zero-cost starter whose 30-meter-radius suppression is friendly to new players, and whose trap-placement logic is the most intuitive. Once you understand the idea of “controlling space”, move on to Sineva’s shield, Uluru’s barricades, and Byte’s spiders — each is a variant of area control.
