Air Vehicles Guide#

Air Vehicles Guide

Air vehicles are the signature of the Battlefield series and also its highest skill barrier. This page covers the core disciplines of helicopters and jets, plus the Season 5 nerf to the scout helicopter — which directly changes the air vehicle environment.

The Air Vehicle Environment at a Glance#

Two key changes in Season 5 (October 13, 2026, version 2.1.1.0):

Change Values Impact
Scout helicopter 70mm FFAR rocket splash damage -30% No longer a one-shot infantry kill at common engagement ranges
Scout helicopter rocket pod cooldown 28 → 38 seconds Rocket cycles slow down, interrupting hover-attack rhythm

Meanwhile ground AA is getting stronger (Mobile AA turret traverse +50%, projectile speed and spread improved, max range about 800 meters). Conclusion: the Season 5 air vehicle environment is unfriendly to newcomers, and pilot room for error is being squeezed from both ends. Full balance values in AA Vehicles and Season Balance.

Helicopters#

The Dilemma of Hovering vs. Maneuvering#

The helicopter’s core contradiction: you only hit accurately while hovering, and you only survive while moving. The Season 5 rocket nerf amplifies it — with splash damage down you need more precise direct hits, and the longer rocket pod cooldown makes every attack window more precious.

Play style Applies when Risk
Hover gunnery Enemy AA is weak Locked by AA and snipers
Mobile raiding Under AA threat Rocket hit rate drops
High-altitude loitering Providing observation and callouts Lowest output efficiency, but the safest

Helicopter Discipline#

  1. Check AA before entering: when the enemy has Mobile AA in position, subtract its 800-meter range from your own rocket reach (against ground)
  2. One pod, one position: with the Season 5 cooldown longer, relocate after every rocket dump — never linger in the same patch of sky
  3. Fly low to dodge locks: use terrain to block AA sightlines
  4. Pair with an Engineer: helicopters can be repaired too — an Engineer who can fix your helicopter is half the crew

The Scout Helicopter’s New Role#

After the splash nerf, the scout helicopter’s value shifts away from “one-shot infantry” toward:

  • Observation and marking: an airborne intel slot paired with Recon’s laser designation
  • Precise direct hits: direct hits still threaten, but demand far better aim
  • Baiting AA fire: your maneuvering itself is fire cover for teammates on the ground

Jets#

Energy Management Is the Only Core#

Everything about jets condenses into one word: energy. Speed is life, and altitude is your energy reserve.

  • Never dogfight at low speed: lose speed and you become a target
  • Trade climbs for energy, dives for attack windows: disengage immediately after attacking, and never make a second pass in a row
  • Use the map’s depth: big maps (Mirak Valley types) are the jet’s home field; city maps compress your maneuvering space

Jet Discipline#

  1. Clear AA before entering: ground AA is the jet’s first threat; flying in formation or opening up the point is prerequisite work
  2. One pass, one exit: make exactly one raid per attack window, then reset and re-enter
  3. Don’t brawl: a jet’s value lies in persistent presence, not single-match kill counts

Air Vehicles and Teamwork#

Your vehicle What you need from teammates What you owe the team
Attack helicopter An Engineer riding along to repair, infantry clearing AA positions Fire support and airborne reconnaissance
Scout helicopter Intel coordination with Recon Marking, observation, fire suppression
Jet Ground forces clearing AA Air superiority and ground raids
Transports See AA Vehicles and Transport Guide Insertion and extraction

Countering Air Vehicles (Infantry View)#

An air guide must also cover the ground view, because most players spend most of their time on the ground:

If you are Countermeasure
Engineer Rocket launchers are most effective against hovering helicopters — shoot the hover, not the maneuver
Recon Use drones to open the map, find helicopter landing spots, and pass them to AA
Everyone When your AA opens fire, add damage on its target instead of shooting at random

The Season 5 Mobile AA buffs mean the ground AA network is stronger, so the optimal infantry strategy is often “herd air targets into your AA envelope” rather than chewing on them yourself.

A Beginner Pilot’s Learning Path#

  1. Start with the scout helicopter to learn hovering and landing: it demands the least stick precision
  2. Practice nap-of-the-earth flight: hugging terrain contours is the fundamentals of dodging locks
  3. Watch veterans’ entry routes: shadow their approach angles and exit lines
  4. Accept the Season 5 reality: helicopters have less room for error this patch; don’t quit because you die fast — learn to come back alive first, then learn to kill
