Stella Montis: The First Post-Launch Map#
The addition of Stella Montis established this game’s content update model: a new map carries a new ecosystem with it. This map brought a whole set of endgame content — the oversized boss Matriarch, an exclusive blueprint group (Aphelion, Ailion and others), and the production site of the endgame material Magnetic Accelerator. Riven Tides carried the same “new map = new regional ecosystem” idea forward. Guides for the added maps will be folded into this section as they are written; for now, see Stella Montis Location Breakdown.
Aggro Matchmaking#
Version 1.36 introduced aggro-based matchmaking, the most important system-level change since launch:
- The design intent is to match combat-aggressive players with one another, easing encounter pressure on peaceful players;
- This ties directly to the community ecosystem observed by the studio — the 37% share of cooperative players keeps growing, and the system is stratifying players by preference;
- The algorithm details are not fully public; for community test findings, see PvP Combat Tips.
Frozen Trail#
The Frozen Trail update went live on October 8, 2026, followed immediately by the PvE test that opened on October 13. Two updates clustered into the same month says plenty about the studio’s investment in the Q4 content cadence. The specific contents of the update follow the official announcement.
Pure PvE Test: The Biggest Change of the Year#
The PvE toggle test from October 13 to 20 is the largest gameplay-level adjustment since launch:
- Players can switch between classic PvPvE and pure PvE, with zero damage between players in PvE;
- 51% of surveyed players support a dedicated PvE option, and the studio answered the community’s call with data;
- The test period excludes four high-pressure conditions — Night Raids, Hidden Bunker, Locked Gate and Frigate — with loot values adjusted accordingly.

Each Node in Detail#
Launch Window (2025-10-30)#
Shipping with a new map, The Blue Gate, at launch was a rare move in the studio’s release strategy — most extraction shooters launch with only the basic maps and hold new ones back as later hooks. The deluxe edition and the cosmetic system released the same day established the commercial model of a buy-to-own game plus cosmetic purchases.
Aggro Matchmaking (Version 1.36)#
The matchmaking change targets a problem that had no systemic answer before: the friction of encounters between cooperative players and hostile players. Ongoing observation of community feedback after the system went live directly shaped the PvE toggle decision months later — the two updates are two ends of the same thread.
Riven Tides (2026-04)#
The addition of the coastal ruins map continued the “new map brings a new ecosystem” content model. Unlike Stella Montis, this map is not tied to an endgame boss, and the community generally reads it as a content top-up for the mid-core player layer. Its location intelligence is still being compiled by the community, and a dedicated page will be added once the material has settled.
Frozen Trail and the PvE Test (2026-10)#
The two updates went live back to back: Frozen Trail lays down the content, and the PvE toggle test picks up the gameplay adjustment. Delivering a double update of “content plus systems” within a single month is the fastest window since launch.
Observations on Long-Term Operation#
A year of update history reveals Embark’s operating style:
- Maps are the main body of content outside the core monetization point: new maps are free, and spending is concentrated on cosmetics;
- System changes respond to data: both aggro matchmaking and the PvE toggle come directly from player behavior statistics;
- A steady commercialization rhythm of one cosmetic set per quarter;
- Major mechanic changes are tested first: the PvE toggle uses a limited-time test rather than going live directly, leaving room to roll back.
How to Follow Official News#
For players who want version information first, three sources in priority order:
- In-game announcements and the official site news: the first outlet for major adjustments like the PvE test;
- Official social media: update teasers, maintenance notices and temporary compensation details;
- Community data sites: version datamining and hands-on findings, good for double-checking change details.
This section maintains the Update Timeline and the affected topic pages after every major update — during the PvE test, for example, Pure PvE Mode Guide is the page that changes most often.
Verification Standard for Content Previews#
Any future update plans not listed on this page (new season content, battle pass details, unannounced maps) have no complete official list published; take the official announcements as authoritative, and this page makes no predictions. The section’s update record will be maintained continuously as versions move forward.
