Battlefield Resource Management#
The outcome of a match largely depends on resource allocation. The four allocatable resources in Marvel Rivals are health, map health packs, ultimate energy, and respawn time. This page explains how to allocate them.
Resource Overview#
| Resource | Source | Who It Goes To | Key Criterion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | Strategist healing skills | Teammates | Who is under pressure right now |
| Map health packs | Fixed spawn points | Anyone | Who needs them most and is being neglected |
| Ultimate energy | Damage, damage taken, kills | Yourself | When releasing it is most valuable |
| Respawn time | Fixed mechanic | Not allocatable | When to fall back instead of fighting |
Health#
Health is the core resource managed by Strategists. Healing is always a limited resource, and the principle of allocation is not even distribution, but “keeping the key people alive at the key moments.”
Healing Priority#
- The Vanguard currently absorbing damage
- The Duelist currently in a firefight who can score a kill right away
- Teammates who just respawned and need to regain combat effectiveness immediately
- Full- or half-health teammates hiding behind cover
Common Allocation Mistakes#
- Spreading healing evenly: keeping everyone at half health means anyone can be picked off
- Healing only the shortest health bar: heroes have different maximum health values, so absolute health is not comparable
- Neglecting yourself: when the Strategist dies, the entire team’s healing source is cut off
Map Health Packs#
Health packs on the map are shared resources that respawn periodically at fixed points.
| Strategy | Notes |
|---|---|
| Memorize the spawn points | The packs near the objective decide who can hold position longer |
| Don’t compete with your healer | When the team has a healer, leave packs for neglected teammates |
| Deny enemy packs | Choking the enemy’s supply route weakens their sustain |
| Time the respawns | Arriving on schedule when needed beats hunting for packs on the fly |
Ultimate Energy#
Ultimate energy is a resource each player accumulates personally. It builds through damage dealt, damage taken, and kills, so tanky heroes often charge it faster.
Release Criteria#
| Situation | Release? |
|---|---|
| A team fight is starting and all teammates are present | Yes |
| The enemy has already burned their counter abilities | Yes |
| You can trade for a core enemy hero | Yes |
| You are alone while all teammates respawn | No |
| The objective is lost and the team is retreating | No |
| Fully charged but waiting for the “perfect moment” | Yes; hoarding it is as good as having none |
Season 10 reduced the ultimate charge rate of all Strategists, making group-healing ultimates scarcer and demanding more careful release timing.
Respawn Time#
Respawn wait times grow longer as the match progresses. This is the only resource that cannot be allocated; it can only be saved by dying less.
| Principle | Notes |
|---|---|
| Don’t fight while down a member | Retreat after losing a player and regroup once everyone is back |
| Leave no broken fight before overtime | A full team wipe during overtime usually decides the match |
| Where you die matters | Dying near the objective gets you back into the fight faster |
Team-Up Opportunities#
Team-Up Abilities are a resource unique to Marvel Rivals. Because a Team-Up’s base effect works for a lone hero while the enhanced effect requires the partner present, whether the roster assembles the pair directly determines how much the Team-Up delivers.
Trade-off Criteria#
| Situation | How to Handle It |
|---|---|
| The partner is already on the team | Organize team fights around the enhanced Team-Up effect |
| One more pick completes the pair | Worth adding if the role composition doesn’t suffer |
| Completing the pair would leave the team without healing or a frontline | Don’t; roles come first |
| Solo queue gives no control over teammate picks | Pick Team-Up heroes whose base effects are strong on their own |
Resource Differentials and Winning#
The course of a match is, in essence, the shifting of resource differentials:
- Health differential: if one side heals better, this gap keeps growing
- Numbers differential: one successful team fight costs the enemy members, sharply lowering their odds in the next one
- Ultimate differential: the side ahead in ultimate trades can keep dictating engagement tempo
- Position differential: the side holding high ground and control points can defend objectives with fewer resources
Winning a match means keeping the enemy at a persistent disadvantage across these four areas, not dealing a big damage number in a single fight.
FAQ#
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do health packs spawn at fixed spots | Yes, both location and respawn timing are fixed |
| Are there pickup buff items | No, the game has no combat-buff pickups |
| What if my ultimate charges slowly | Increase effective damage output and damage taken; playing too passively slows charging |
| Is high healing output enough | No, what matters is whether healing lands on key people at key moments |
| What to do when the team is being overwhelmed | Tighten up positioning, protect the healer, and counterattack after the enemy burns their abilities |
