Hero Combos#

Hero Combos

The essence of a combo is compressing the three stages of “control, damage, finish” into the shortest possible time, leaving the opponent no chance to react or heal. This page covers combo logic, not a memorized button string for every hero.

The Three Parts of a Combo#

Part Purpose Common sources
Opener Creates the chance to land hits Mobility, CC, dives
Main damage Drops health to a dangerous level Basic attacks and damage skills
Finisher Secures the kill or disengages safely Burst skills, mobility retreat

A combo without an opener never lands; a combo without a finisher leaves the target alive and you exposed to a counter-kill.

Combo Types#

Type Description Best for
Short combo 2-3 skills per rotation, used repeatedly Standard play for most heroes
Burst combo All skills and the ultimate crammed into one window Assassins killing healers
CC chain Multiple players’ control effects land in sequence Team engagements
Defensive combo Shields and mobility to defuse enemy burst When being dived

Vanguard Combo Logic#

Vanguard combos usually follow a cycle of “engage, absorb pressure, disengage.”

Hero Combo logic
Hulk Leap in to launch enemies, absorb pressure with basic attacks and roar, and when near death revert to Banner and look for a chance to transform again
Thor Dash into the backline, burst with lightning melee, stun with the hammer strike to finish, then exit with mobility or shield
Captain America Open with the shield ricochet, press the dive, shield teammates, then lead the push
Doctor Strange Absorb the first burst with the shield, place a portal to put the team behind the enemy, hold ground with area control
Groot Use walls to split the enemy front from back, wall off their healers, then focus the front line with teammates
Venom Symbiote dive into the backline, tank damage with regeneration, force out enemy mobility before chasing

The measure of a Vanguard’s combo is not how many kills, but how many enemy skills and how much positioning advantage the rotation traded away.

Duelist Combo Logic#

Hero Combo logic
The Punisher Sustained rifle pressure, turret placed to cover the objective, ultimate for clearing the field
Iron Man Fly in from a flank, disrupt the formation with a missile volley, finish with the laser
Spider-Man Swing in on webs, open with CC, burst combo, swing out
Black Panther Dash to mark the target, chain dashes to stay on them, disengage immediately after the kill
Magik Portal behind the enemy, melee combo, portal out
Psylocke Stealth to the backline, burst down the healer, escape with stealth or mobility
Wolverine Stick to high-health targets, sustain through lifesteal, drag the enemy frontline out of formation
Hawkeye Hold high ground and charge shots; each hit is heavy, so relocate immediately after a miss
Hela Ranged projectiles to chip health down; her ultimate doubles as damage and revival value
Scarlet Witch Sustained lock-on damage; after her rework, the curse mechanic requires follow-up hits to stay alive

Strategist Combo Logic#

Hero Combo logic
Mantis Her orb both heals and boosts damage; save the group sleep ultimate for the moment the enemy opens a fight
Rocket Raccoon Healing beam keeps teammates up, place the revive beacon at key spots, use the jetpack to escape when dived
Adam Warlock Soul bond spreads damage; hold the group resurrection for when the team loses members
Loki Use clones to create false targets, rune healing sustains the front line, ultimate copies a key enemy ability
Invisible Woman Invisibility to avoid dives, push-and-pull CC to throw divers off the backline
Jeff the Land Shark Burrow to avoid damage, ultimate swallow to scatter the enemy formation

The measure of a Strategist’s combo is “did someone survive this fight because of my abilities.”

Team Chaining#

Beyond individual combos, what really decides team fights is team chaining:

  1. CC chain: after the first control lands, a second follows immediately so the enemy cannot use their escape
  2. Ultimate chain: two or three ultimates fired within 3 seconds, leaving enemy healers no time to react
  3. Buff stacking: the Strategist’s ultimate lands first, then the Duelist’s ultimate follows up
  4. Synchronized retreat: when the call is made, everyone pulls back together; do not leave anyone as rear guard

Practice Methods#

Method Notes
Fixed practice in the training range Drill the skill order until you no longer look at cooldown icons
Single-skill focus Focus on one stage per match, for example only openers
Death review After every death, ask: which step could I have skipped
Replay review Watch where in your combo the enemy countered you

Common Mistakes#

  • Dumping all skills on one target: if a healer saves them, you have nothing left
  • Using your opener to escape: no way out once you commit to the fight
  • Practicing entry but not exit: you can get in but not out
  • Chasing flashy combos: reliable hits matter more than combo length
  • Ignoring teammate positions: a combo that lands while nobody follows up is just a solo death

FAQ#

Question Answer
Do I need to memorize every hero’s combo No; master the three heroes you already play first
Can combos be interrupted Yes; CC can interrupt the middle stages of most combos
Is there an official one-button combo No, everything is manual
Are combos and Combos (Team-Ups) the same thing No. A combo is a skill sequence; Combos are extra abilities unlocked when two specific heroes are on the same team
