Civilization 7 - Achievements List#

Civilization VII carries on the series tradition of “using achievements to steer players toward different leaders and playstyles,” but this entry’s achievement list is markedly smaller than the previous games: the Steam base game has 32 achievements, and with the new achievements bundled into each DLC wave, the running total is now 37. The “50+ achievements” lists circulating online are mostly stitched-together fabrications. This page corrects the count against Steam’s actual achievement list and lays out how to unlock them.

The Count: 32 Base, 37 With DLC#

Before planning “all achievements,” you must separate the counting scopes, or your progress will never add up:

Scope Count Notes
Base game 32 All unlockable without buying any DLC
Base game + current DLC 37 Includes the new achievements bundled with each DLC wave to date
Future total TBD Later DLC will keep adding achievements — defer to the live Steam achievements page

A few reminders:

  1. DLC achievements are only open to accounts that own the corresponding content. Players who have not bought the DLC do not need to, and cannot, unlock that portion — for all-achievement planning, work to the 32-count scope.
  2. The 37 figure on this page is a September 2026 snapshot. Every new DLC revises the total upward, and the live achievement list on the Steam store page is always the final word.
  3. The in-game achievements page and Steam occasionally show a brief sync lag, especially while Steam is in offline mode; it auto-syncs once you are back online. If the numbers disagree while checking progress, trust the refreshed Steam client first.

Three Achievement Styles#

Civilization 7’s achievements do not spread mechanically into “one per victory type” — they concentrate in three styles. Understanding this structure makes planning far more efficient than grinding the list one by one.

Leader-Win Achievements#

The largest share: win a game using a specified leader, most without restricting the victory type — just carry the game into the Modern Age and win. The official names love their puns: the achievement for winning with Xerxes is “Sailed the Seven Xerxes,” a pun on the Seven Seas; winning with Machiavelli is “Hit Mach 10,” a pun on his name; winning with Ashoka is “Budding Buddhist.” These achievements are mutually exclusive — a game only fits one leader, so collecting them all means one dedicated run per target leader.

Legacy Path Achievements#

These are designed around the Legacy Path milestones of the three Ages — such as “One Hit Wonder,” “Book Smart,” and “Pax a Wallop” — corresponding to completing the key objectives of a specific Legacy Path within a given Age. These achievements need no deliberate grinding: push your Legacy Paths at a normal pace and race the Age transitions, and most will unlock along the way.

Difficulty Achievements#

There is exactly one representative — “Playing God”: win a game on Deity difficulty. It is the highest gate in the entire achievement list and the final exam for 100% completion.

Style Representative achievement Unlock key
Leader-win Sailed the Seven Xerxes Win a Modern-Age game with Xerxes
Leader-win Hit Mach 10 Win a game with Machiavelli
Leader-win Budding Buddhist Win a game with Ashoka
Legacy Path One Hit Wonder Complete the matching Age’s Legacy Path milestone
Legacy Path Book Smart Complete the matching Age’s Legacy Path milestone
Legacy Path Pax a Wallop Complete the matching Age’s Legacy Path milestone
Difficulty Playing God Win any game on Deity difficulty

How Achievements Bind to the Three-Age Structure#

A Civilization 7 game is split into the Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern Ages, and the achievement design is deeply bound to that skeleton:

  1. Leader-win achievements inherently require a full game — “win in the Modern Age” means running from Antiquity all the way to the end; get knocked out midway or restart, and it doesn’t count. This sets a floor on each leader run’s length — budget time for a complete game.
  2. Legacy Path achievements settle per Age segment. Every Age has its own Legacy Path objectives, and unfinished paths reset at the transition — so the correct approach to Legacy achievements is “finish the corresponding milestone within the current Age,” not deferring it to the next Age to backfill.
  3. The difficulty achievement only looks at the result — a Deity win doesn’t care who you play or how you win, so you can save your most practiced leader and most comfortable victory route for that final game.

How DLC Expands the List#

Civilization 7’s achievements were not fixed in place at launch — they grow with each DLC wave. The Tecumseh and Shawnee, Deluxe Content Pack, Crossroads of the World, Right to Rule, and Tides of Power batches each shipped with a handful of new achievements designed around new leaders and new mechanics, pushing the running total from 32 to 37.

For all-achievement players, this mechanism means two things:

  1. New achievements follow the base game’s styles — the vast majority are still “win a game with the new leader,” so each new content purchase usually takes only one or two runs with the added leader to clear that wave.
  2. The total keeps changing. This page’s numbers only represent the current moment, and any claim of a “final achievement count” is unreliable — including this page — so once again: defer to the live Steam achievements list.

Unlock Strategy and Efficient Planning#

Based on the structure above, here is a practical order of attack:

  1. First do a full playthrough on a comfortable difficulty. The goal is to learn the rhythm of the three-Age cycle while casually collecting most Legacy Path achievements — they require almost no extra effort.
  2. Open dedicated runs for leader achievements one by one. One run per target leader, on whatever difficulty you are most confident of winning on (leader achievements usually have no difficulty requirement). For leader strength analysis, see Leaders & Civilizations.
  3. Plan the victory route alongside each run. Leader achievements only require “winning,” not “how you win,” so play every game along your most practiced victory route and pick up the victory-related Legacy Path objectives at the same time — see the Victory Routes guide.
  4. Save Deity for the finale. Once you are sufficiently familiar with Age transitions, city-state relations, and opponents’ expansion pacing, take on “Playing God.” On Deity the opponents start with a resource edge — surviving the early game and pulling ahead through Legacy Points in the mid-game is the steadier rhythm.
  5. Check the increment regularly. After each DLC launch, return to the Steam achievements page for new entries and fold the new leader’s dedicated run into the next planning round so nothing gets missed.
Stage Main goal Key points
First playthrough Legacy Path achievements Full run on low difficulty; unlock them casually while pushing Legacy Paths per Age
Leader-run stage Leader-win achievements One leader per run, any difficulty, winning along a practiced victory route
Final stage Difficulty achievements On Deity, pick your safest leader and route, focused on survival and Legacy Points

Common Mistakes#

  1. Copying the online “50+ achievements” lists. These lists mix this game’s achievements with earlier entries’ and pad in a mass of nonexistent entries — planning around them only wastes time. This game’s real count is 32 base, 37 with DLC.
  2. Assuming every victory type has a dedicated achievement. This game’s achievements are not mapped one-to-one to victory types — there is no need to chase every victory type for the achievements’ sake; plan backward from the leader achievement and Legacy Path achievement lists instead.
  3. Counting DLC achievements into the base pool. Seeing 32 on the achievements page without owning the DLC is normal; the missing few belong only to their content packs.
  4. Trying to farm multiple leader achievements in one run. A run allows only one leader, and leader-win achievements are inherently mutually exclusive — dedicated runs are the only solution.

Checking and Verifying#

  • Treat the in-game achievements page and the Steam achievements page as the only authoritative sources — their live lists are always in sync with the current version.
  • Achievements bind to your account once unlocked: reloading a save to redo the same stretch will not re-unlock anything, and they will not roll back because you restarted a run midway; a failed run only leaves unfinished conditions to redo.
  • Beware third-party sites’ “full achievement lists”: this game’s list is short but updates often — older lists routinely miss the DLC waves’ new entries, and quite a few sites simply list fabricated achievements that do not exist. When verifying real achievement names and unlock conditions, always return to Steam’s official page.

One-line summary: Civilization 7’s achievement system is small but tight — 32 base achievements form the core pool, with DLC steadily adding more. The three styles are clearly cut: take the Legacy Path achievements the campaign hands you first, then clear the leader dedicated runs one by one, and finish on Deity difficulty — that is the straightest route to 100% completion.
