Beginner Survival Guide

ARC Raiders is a third-person extraction shooter developed by Embark Studios, officially released on 2025-10-30. You play a Raider setting out from the underground settlement of Speranza, climbing to the surface (topside) held by the mechanical ARC enemy to scavenge resources, complete objectives and extract alive. It sounds simple, but this genre has one iron rule: without extracting, none of it counts. This page is for new players: how to survive your first life and how to plan your first week.

The Core Loop: Deploy, Loot, Extract, Build#

Everything in ARC Raiders runs on one closed loop, and understanding that loop matters more than memorizing any single trick:

Stage What You Do Cost of Failure
Deploy Prepare weapons, shields and augments at Speranza, pick a map and mode, then drop in None; whatever you bring in is locked in
Loot Scour the surface for materials, weapons, augments and blueprints, avoiding or fighting others Death means losing everything you carried and looted this run
Extract Reach an extraction point and leave successfully — the only settlement point Failing to extract means a total loss
Build Underground, feed materials into the workbench and your home base to craft stronger gear Spent materials are a normal investment

Remember one thing: only after a successful extraction does everything you looted in that run truly belong to you. This rule applies to blueprints as well — see below.

Preparation Before Your First Raid#

Which Edition to Buy#

Edition Price Content Difference
Standard Edition $39.99 The base game, complete content
Deluxe Edition $59.99 Base game + Valente Legend outfit, Pathfinder backpack, Bedroll backpack attachment

The two editions are identical in gameplay and progression; the difference is purely cosmetic, in outfits and backpacks. Players who just want to try the water are fine with the Standard Edition; the Steam China region store also lists a “upgrade to Deluxe Edition” option at the price difference, so you can always pay the difference later.

Platforms and Accounts#

  • The game is available on PC (Steam / Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and supports GeForce NOW cloud gaming — low-spec PCs can go the cloud route.
  • Cross-platform multiplayer is supported, and PC and console players are matched into the same raids.
  • Interface and subtitles are offered in 13 languages, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
  • The Steam version ships with 50 achievements and uses kernel-level anti-cheat (Easy Anti-Cheat), so you need to authorize the anti-cheat component installation on first launch.

The Right Mindset: This Is Not a Pure Shooter#

Embark calls this game an “extraction adventure” rather than a traditional extraction shooter, and that wording is worth pondering. Embark published a set of player behavior stats: since launch roughly 37% of players lean toward friendly cooperation, 27% mix it up and 34% prefer confrontation. In other words, one out of every three players you meet on the surface probably does not want to shoot — observing first and keeping your finger off the trigger is the most important habit for a newcomer to build.

The First Iron Rule: Blueprints Only Count After Extraction#

Blueprints are the lifeblood of long-term progression in this game: you need them before you can craft the matching weapons and gear at the workbench. But their settlement rule is very strict:

  • Blueprints only count toward your collection after a successful extraction;
  • If you die or fail to extract, blueprints picked up this run are lost outright;
  • Before extracting, stash blueprints in the safest spot in your backpack, and protect them first once the extraction window opens.

The most common new-player tragedy is grabbing a rare blueprint and then greedily clearing one more room, losing the whole bag. Remember the motto: pick up the schematic, think extraction immediately.

Map Unlock Order and Early Route#

The base game has six maps, unlocked step by step in the order below, with difficulty and value density rising with each one:

Order Map Role Beginner Notes
1 Dam Battlegrounds First map, rich in materials Practice looting tempo and extraction habits
2 Buried City City ruins, lots of indoor fights Learn to read footsteps and control corners
3 Spaceport Open terrain, heavy ranged threats Practice movement and cover swapping
4 The Blue Gate Final map of the base game The best loot is concentrated underground
5 Stella Montis An endgame map added after launch The community generally suggests waiting until level 25
6 Riven Tides A coastal ruins map added in April 2026 New map intel depends on community write-ups

Spend your first ten hours on the first three maps. For detailed points of interest and looting routes on each map, see the individual map guides in this section.

Ten-Hour Progression Checklist#

Break your goals down small, aiming to finish only one or two things per raid:

  1. First hour: run one complete Dam Battlegrounds raid without chasing results — just learn how extraction points work;
  2. Hours two to three: practice no-shoot stealth runs — study ARC patrol routes and learn how machine enemy vision works;
  3. Hours three to five: unlock Buried City, start saving up your first weapon blueprints, and prioritize “extract the moment you grab one”;
  4. Hours five to ten: return to Dam Battlegrounds to farm specific materials, put together your first self-crafted weapon and shield, and gradually rely less on weapons you find lying around.

Death Is Normal; Cutting Losses Is the Point#

Dying is routine in extraction shooters, and this game’s loss rule is blunt: gear you brought in and loot you found belong to whoever takes it if you do not carry it out. A few loss-cutting rules:

  • Move valuables out in batches: when the bag is full and high-value targets remain, extract once to bank what you have before starting the next run;
  • Never risk the whole bag for one cabinet: the extraction window and your bag value always rank above the urge to loot;
  • Treat every death as tuition: review each run and ask “where exactly did I die” — was it an encounter, greed or a bad extraction route?

Six Mistakes Beginners Make Most#

Mistake Consequence How to Fix It
Playing an extraction shooter like a team deathmatch Constant firefights, gear burnt for nothing Ask yourself first: “is this shot worth it?”
Keep looting after picking up a blueprint The blueprint is lost when you die Plan extraction immediately after grabbing a rare blueprint
Charging in without reading patrol routes Swarmed and wiped by ARC Spend half a minute observing every area first
Pushing deeper with a full bag One-run total loss Extract once value density is enough
Ignoring augment and shield synergy Reduced combat power Check the loadout page before deploying
Focusing only on the player threat Caught off guard by ARC Watch both the machine and human lines
