Boss Guide#
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has 9 bosses spread across main missions and Mysterium challenges. This page gives the verified boss list, mission mapping, and a universal fight framework; older guides’ recommended-level, XP, and parts-reward tables had no official source and have been removed entirely.
The Boss List and Their Missions#
| Boss | Mission (verified) |
|---|---|
| Sandman | Mission 1, “Surface Tension” (the tutorial’s opening fight) |
| Lizard | Mission 20, “It Chose You” |
| Mister Negative | Mission 23, “No Escape” |
| Kraven the Hunter | Mission 24, “Anything Can Be Broken,” and mission 25, “Don’t Be Scared” |
| Symbiote Peter | The fight against a symbiote-controlled Peter (mission node in the Story guide) |
| Scream | — (mission not documented) |
| Venom | The final battle (the endgame showdown before main mission 31, “Together”) |
| Wraith | — (mission not documented) |
| Mysterio | Appears across 10 Mysterium challenges; the closer is “Grand Finale” |
The list follows game8.co’s boss roundup; entries without a mission assignment had no verifiable source and receive no speculation here.
Universal Offense and Defense Rules#
Boss fights share one indicator system with normal combat — the foundation of every strategy:
| Attack Indicator | Correct Response | Wrong Response |
|---|---|---|
| Blue indicator | Dodge only — cannot be blocked | Trying to block gets you hit |
| Yellow/orange indicator | Block only — cannot be dodged | Trying to dodge won’t escape the hitbox |
Additional points:
- Focus management: landed hits and perfect defense actions build Focus, spent on executions and healing; banking Focus for emergencies during boss combos is the universal survival play.
- Gadget rotation: the 5 gadgets (Web Shooters, Upshot, Web Grabber, Concussion Burst, Ricochet Web) each carry control or damage roles — no boss has a “single solution”; pick per your skill tree and upgrade progress. On unlock pacing: Web Shooters and Upshot come from the start, Web Grabber unlocks at level 2, Concussion Burst at level 11; the main mission “Bad Guys On The Block” also unlocks the stealth tool Web Line, of limited use in head-on boss fights.
- Ability loop: Peter’s symbiote-family moves and Miles’s bio-electric moves are the two damage pillars; skill names in the Skills guide. There are 3 skill trees (Peter-exclusive, Miles-exclusive, shared) — the shared tree holds 26 skills and Miles’s 17; the character level cap is 60, tied to the “Amazing” trophy.
Fight Notes for the Verified Bosses#
Sandman#
The opening boss of the tutorial mission “Surface Tension.” The fight is a teaching exercise with clearly telegraphed attacks — the place to internalize dodging, blocking, and swing positioning. Note that older guides’ phase descriptions (“sand waves, sandstorms”) differ from our verified sources — defer to the in-game phase structure.
Lizard#
The mission 20 “It Chose You” showdown. The Lizard is fast with heavy melee pressure; the core answer is strict indicator discipline — blue means dodge immediately, yellow/orange means block for the counter window. Older guides’ venue details (“Bellevue Hospital”) are unverified and unconfirmed here.
Mister Negative#
The boss of mission 23, “No Escape.” His energy attacks run in clean rhythms — ideal for drilling the block-counter-execute loop; Miles’s bio-electric skills are one of the main damage sources in this fight.
Kraven the Hunter#
The heavyweight duel spanning missions 24 (“Anything Can Be Broken”) and 25 (“Don’t Be Scared”) — one of the game’s difficulty peaks. Kraven’s strings are dense, and older guides’ claim that “every attack can be blocked” is inaccurate — judge every move by its yellow/orange indicator and dodge the blue ones decisively.
Kraven is voiced by Jim Pirri. The open-world bases belonging to his faction — 11 hunter ambush sites and 4 hunter bases — open gradually across missions 8-16; clearing them before the duel familiarizes you with the hunters’ strings and formations. Faction composition and weaknesses in the Enemies compendium; unlock timing in the Missions guide.
Venom#
The main story’s final battle, staged along the Oscorp tower line. Venom is a symbiote entity whose publicly consistent weaknesses are sound and fire; the fight is multi-phase with the two Spider-Men alternating in. Older guides’ “four phases” breakdown and specific move names are unverified — defer to the actual fight.
Story-wise, “Peter gets the symbiote,” “the church bells,” and “Venom’s birth” run all the way to the endgame Oscorp showdown — all verified story nodes; the anti-Venom suit nodes fall around mission 28, “Set Things Right.” The endgame flow through the “Together” ending is in the Story guide and Missions guide.
Mysterio#
Not in a main mission — he is the force behind the 10 Mysterium challenges scattered across the map, with the closing fight “Grand Finale” after all ten. Mysteriums specialize in scene illusions and rule twists, and are the unlock condition for the Behind the Masks achievement. On timing: Mysteriums open after main mission 13, “Hunt to Live, Live to Hunt,” consistent with the Achievements list; the closer requires all ten cleared — sweep them alongside the story to avoid endgame backtracking.
On Symbiote Peter, Scream, and Wraith#
All three appear in game8.co’s list, but this site found no reliable record of their mission assignments:
- Symbiote Peter: the fight against a symbiote-corrupted Peter — a key mid-story battle; the exact mission name defers to play.
- Scream: one of the symbiote hosts; fight timing and venue not documented.
- Wraith: a fight tied to the villain thread; mission not documented.
Defer to the in-game flow and official material for all three — no speculation here.
Boss Prep Checklist#
| Item | Advice |
|---|---|
| Skills | Prioritize the shared tree’s defensive skills (block-line skills like Parry Disarm) |
| Level | Character cap is 60; NG+’s Ultimate Levels can exceed it further — exact ceiling unverified |
| Gadgets | All 5 upgraded at least once; bring one control and one damage option |
| Materials | Confirm tech parts before the fight — there are four materials (Tech Parts, Rare Tech Parts, City Tokens, Hero Tokens); fully upgrading all 5 gadgets costs 4,495 Tech Parts + 28 City Tokens + 76 Rare Tech Parts + 31 Hero Tokens, earned from crimes, collectibles, and activity rewards; gadget and suit-tech upgrades in Upgrades |
| Difficulty | Achievements are difficulty-independent — lower it temporarily when stuck |
| Mission replay | Since update 1.002, missions are replayable — retry from a save slot or the replay menu; that update shipped 2024-03-07 alongside New Game+; there are 30 manual save slots — a dedicated save before each boss is the safe play |
Pacing Multi-Phase Fights#
No universal stat tables exist, but boss rhythm management has rules of thumb:
| Phase Point | Handling |
|---|---|
| Opening | Watch two attack cycles; identify the boss’s blue-vs-yellow/orange ratio |
| String phase | Defense and counters first; don’t chase damage |
| Phase transitions | Most come with cutscenes — arrive healthy before triggering |
| Endgame | Save Focus for executions or emergency healing; don’t waste it |
Difficulty doesn’t affect achievements — lowering it on a stuck boss is the correct answer, and post-1.002 replay lets you return anytime.
