Beginner’s Guide#
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is an open-world action adventure. This page collects what to confirm before starting on PC — specs, account, and onboarding essentials — all from the official Steam store page and verified update records.
Three Things Before Playing#
| Item | Details |

No separate official tiers exist for higher presets (4K, full ray tracing) — for actual performance refer to Nixxes’s performance notes and player benchmarks; this site speculates none of it.
Game Modes#
| Mode | Details |
|---|---|
| Main story | 31 main missions, ~17 hours to clear |
| Free roam | All areas open for exploration after the story |
| New Game+ | Added with the 2024-03-07 update 1.002; officially carries over suits and abilities |
| Mission replay | Also from 1.002 — completed main missions can be replayed |
| Mysteriums | 10 Mysterium challenge levels, masterminded by Mysterio |
Choosing a Difficulty#
The game offers 5 difficulty tiers; the lowest is “Friendly Neighborhood,” with no effect on achievements. Accessibility-oriented custom options adjust individual parameters. Official names of the middle tiers are not individually documented here — defer to the in-game difficulty menu.
| Player Type | Advice |
|---|---|
| Story-first, new to action games | Friendly Neighborhood — achievements are unaffected by difficulty |
| Action veterans | Start mid-tier and feel the block/dodge timing pressure |
| Second playthrough | With NG+ carrying suits and abilities, go straight to a higher tier |
Controls and Bindings#
PC supports fully remappable keys; DualSense needs a wired connection for adaptive triggers and haptics. Rather than listing every binding, three verified anchors:
- Swinging: hold R2 to fire a web swing — the movement system’s core input.
- Block/dodge indicators: enemy attacks telegraph with colors — blue attacks can only be dodged, never blocked; yellow/orange attacks can only be blocked, never dodged. Build the “read the color, choose the response” habit from mission one.
- Gadget wheel: 5 gadgets (Web Shooters, Upshot, Web Grabber, Concussion Burst, Ricochet Web), plus the stealth tool Web Line from the main mission “Bad Guys On The Block.”
Exact mappings defer to in-game settings and tutorial demonstrations; keyboard players should remap high-frequency actions to comfortable keys.
Opening Route#
| Stage | What to Do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Missions 1-3 | Follow the “Surface Tension” tutorial; mission 2 unlocks Marko’s Memories, mission 3 unlocks photo spots | Collectible unlock nodes |
| Around mission 6 | “Amends” unlocks the gear box, the Flame questline, and Brooklyn Visions missions — start them in passing | Collectible unlock nodes |
| After mission 7 | “Healing The World” unlocks EMF experiments, tied directly to suit unlocks | The Life Story suit requires all EMF |
| Mission 8+ | “Bad Guys On The Block” unlocks Web Line; hunter ambush sites begin opening | The stealth achievement Slack Line relies on Web Line takedowns |
| Regional progress | Hitting a region’s 2nd node unlocks its fast travel — push frequented regions first | Fast-travel mechanic |
No need to clear the map while pushing the story: collectibles and side content stay open post-credits — nothing can be missed. But items tied to suit unlocks (hunter ambushes, EMF experiments) pay off the earlier you clear them.
Saves and Settings#
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Manual saves | Supported — 30 save slots |
| Cloud saves | Steam Cloud available |
| Collectible counters | Occasional stuck counters (e.g., hunter ambush tallies) — split saves across slots for easy rollback |
| Graphics options | DLSS 3, FSR 3.1, XeSS, ray-traced reflections/shadows/AO all toggleable; 21:9/32:9/48:9 ultrawide supported |
Beginner Tips#
- Read the colors: blue means dodge, yellow/orange means block — the rule carries the whole game and is combat lesson one.
- Two Spider-Men, two systems: Peter runs the symbiote-power line, Miles runs bio-electricity and invisibility — invest skill points separately.
- Suits carry no stats: suits are pure cosmetics this time — wear what you like; strength comes from the skill trees, gadget upgrades, and suit tech.
- Don’t hunt collectibles blind: Spider-Bots aren’t map-marked, but other collectibles auto-mark as regional progress advances — progress first, sweep later.
- Mind the 1.002 content: NG+, mission replay, time-of-day changes — all post-update features, already built into the PC version.
- On undocumented details: every number on this site’s pages is verified online; anything marked “not documented” defers to the game and official announcements.
